CHAPTER 6: COMPROMISE

last update Last Updated: 2025-09-18 08:00:46

LOUISA

I am going to kill someone.

I am not even exaggerating.

It is the cold hard truth

I will kill someone.

And it will be that Alpha

“Our mate,” my wolf whispers

“Shut up!” I hiss at her.

Mate or not, the bastard has my kids

“Can you just take a moment to breathe,” she says, completely ignoring my order. “And think through this situation.”

“I am thinking through the situation,” I grit out. “I am well aware of the situation at hand. It is why I am fucking worried and terrified.”

“Lou-”

“This is the Tryst pack, for goddess sakes!” I snap, nearly breaking down in tears. “The Tryst pack! You know their rules! They kill all rogues that cross their territory on sight!”

“And yet, we are still alive.”

“That-”

“That means something. It means our mate-”

“It means nothing!” I stop to take a breath and give my hands some respite after banging on the door for what feels like hours. “What do we need a mate for, Gabby? We are okay on our own. We are beholden to no one. Or have you forgotten our women were treated in our pack? How subjugated rhey were?”

“This isn't the Blood Moon as you have stated before. It is the Tryst pack. One of the most powerful packs in this part of the hemisphere. So you think they got to this height by subjugating their women?”

“It doesn't matter what they did or what their customs are, I don't care. And we are not staying. I will get my children and leave.”

“You mean his children.”

Shit.

“They are his children too, you know,” she continues.”Just because you don't want to admit it or acknowledge it doesn't make it less true. Travis Raid is the father of the twins and the moon goddess has somehow led him back to you.”

“Oh, Gabby,” I sigh.

“Can’t you see how wonderfully well it has all worked out. The man you had a one night stand with is your mate. And the father of your kids.”

“It doesn't matter.”

“Why not? What are you so afraid of?”

“Oh, let me see. Number one, we are rogues and we are locked up in a pack who is most strict with rogues. They are probably discussing whether we live or die, right now.”

“Louisa-”

“I am not done. Travis whether he knows it or not, is Gaines most sworn enemy. He resents Travis. He wants the man destroyed. Gaines, is also the man who has been hunting me all these years. And now, I am in his enemies pack. What do you think his reaction would be once he finds out I am here and worse, Travis's mate?”

“Exactly the reason why we should remain here,” she counters. “See, for all his hatred and bravado in the face of Travis, Gaines can't do anything to him. He knows Travis is stronger, more powerful and more influential. And to top it off, he really has no right over you considering you have found your mate. And everyone knows he killed his mate. He can't argue against that.”

“Then what about the witch?” I demand

“Oh, come on. You are just looking for excuses at this point.”

“No, I am not. I am being realistic. Everyone knows Selene Lance has her eyes set on Travis. And she is a deranged lunatic. I don't want to get involved in any trouble.”

“So, you would leave your mate in the hands of a mad woman because you don't want any trouble?”

“Don't make me sound callous.”

“You are being callous.”

“I am being pragmatic! I have children to protect!”

“Their father can protect them better!”

“How dare you say that?! You know how much I have sacrificed for my children!”

“And I am not denying that but it also doesn't negate the fact that Travis can protect them and you better than you can on your own. I mean, he is an Alpha for one, which means he comes with a fucking pack. The strongest pack. And if you don't fuck this up, that pack would also defend you and your children.”

When Gabby begins to use swear words that is when I know I have pushed her limit.

But that doesn't mean that I have learned from it.

“I think we should stop talking for now,” I tell her. “It is clear, neither of us are going to give in.”

“You are the one who refuses to see reason.”

“I am going to go find my kids now,” I say, ignoring her words

“Hmm, you will have to get through the doors first,” she responds sarcastically

“I don't need the doors,” I say as I turn toward the double glass windows. “There are other ways of exit.”

“You are unbelievable.”

I ignore her.

Instead, I move a few steps back before taking off towards the windows, crashing into it and falling out of it and down to the pack grounds.

I know it's a matter of seconds before the wolves gather to see what the commotion is about and probably aimute before the actual guards come for me

And so I take off

Following the scents of my children

I know they are safe and unhurt if not, Gabby would have been out of her mind with rage and fear.

But since she was picking on me instead it is a guarantee that at least, they are safe

And the sooner I find them, the sooner I can leave this pack and go back to my normal life

I am ashamed to say that it takes me a few minutes to realize that I am not heading towards the dungeon where I thought they were.

The path is different, quiet more serene and relaxed than that of the dungeons and the moment I break through the clearing, I come fact to face with the pack clinic

Terror

That is what I instantly feel.

What the hell happened to my children?

LOUISA “You don't know what you are doing…” he begins. “I won't let you.”“I, Louisa Stone…”“SHUT UP!”“...a rogue by choice,” I continue, ignoring his screams.“I SAID SHUT UP GIRL! DO YOU HEAR ME!” he snarls as he launches himself at me but Travis is faster. He grabs him by the arms and locks them behind his back.“Continue,” Travis tells me.“...stand here, before the goddess and witnesses. I call on all to witness my choice, swine never to regret. I remove my ties to the Roarke Family. I remove their authority over me. As of today, I stand apart from them. Never to acknowledge them as blood.”“Lou,” my mother whines as a blue line glows between her, me, and my dad. It glows and glows, so bright that we all have to shield our eyes from it and then… it snaps. It is done.“YOU FUCKING BITCH!” My father roars as he pushes off Travis in adrenaline and rushes at me, slamming me against the wall, his claws scratching at my neck but he is not there for long.Travis snatches him by the

LOUISA “Breathe, Lou,” I whisper to myself. “Just breathe. You can handle this. You have handled worse confrontations. This is nothing.” My parents arrived less than an hour ago and had been shown into a room to wait for me. Tammy had shown up with two caretakers and had even stayed behind to watch over them while another wolf had led me here. Except now… I have been standing in front of the door for more than five minutes and I just can't seem to get my legs to move. “Come on, Lou,” I whisper again, shaking my fingers out. “Just move.” But I don't. I can't. I thought I could handle this. That I could handle seeing them again, but I can't. All of a sudden, I am that girl again. Hiding from her father. Scared. Alone And then… a hand slips into mine. Warm. Strong. Confident. I lift my head to see Travis standing by my side, his eyes on mine, firm. Warm. “You are not alone you know?” He says quietly. “At least… you don't have to be. I am right here with you, if you

LOUISA “So?” Tammy mutters as we head back to the cottage. “How are we going to go about this?”“We?” I ask, surprised as I turn to look at her. “I might not agree with your decisions but that doesn't mean I am going to abandon you. That is your forte.”Ouch. She is still pissed. Still, I can't be mad though. She is not wrong.“I don't know,” I say in answer to her question. “There are so many things going on in my head right now. I know I need a plan to separate her from my father… but I don't know how to go about it. And I still have my kids to worry about.”“What about them?” she asks.“What do you mean “what about them?” ? Where am I going to keep them while I go face my parents?”“I didn't understand… Why do you need to keep them anywhere? What is wrong with the cottage?”“I can't leave them alone, Tammy” I scoff at her. “You have no idea how mischievous they can be. Hell, the las

TRAVISAuthor's note: Hi my lovelies. I am so sorry for the disappearance. I had some personal stuff that took me out but I am back now, and I will do my best not to disappoint. Now back to teg story.“They are being followed,” Mark says as he walks in.“What? Who?” I ask as I look up from the maps spread out on my desk.“Louisa’s parents. They are being shadowed.”“By who? Gaines? Why? He is the one who sent them here.”“Not, Gaines himself, but his people. Some of his wolves. But they are not the only ones. Two of Selene’s acolytes are shadowing Gaines Wolves."“Oh, fuck. This is going to be an issue, isn't it?““Most likely. We are going to need to find a solution to nip it in the bud.”“Hmm,” I mutter as I take a seat. “Has Tammy informed Louisa about their arrival?”“Hmm, she headed over to the cottage early this morning. They should be-”Knock. Knock.“Alpha, it is Tammy,” her voice echoes from the door. “Louisa is with me.”Mark and I exchange a glance before I nod towards the

  • THE LUNA'S RECKONING    CHAPTER 19: CHOICES AND SACRIFICES

LOUISA I wake up in a start and for a long second, I remain still, trying to figure out what had woken me up. It is already morning, but not early enough for the sun rays to start peeking through the windows. It had taken me a long time to fall asleep last night. Between being in a new place -a pack, to be exact-, having my children so close to Travis, and then that fight with Tammy, it is a wonder I had managed to even get some shut eye. I hear it again The knock. It must have been what had woken me up. Without hesitation, I get out of the bed, quietly so as not to wake the kids, and quickly make my way to the door Another knock begins to sound just as I pull the door open. It is Tammy. “Oh,” I gasp in relief. Glad that she had decided to come back. “I am so glad you came back,” I rush to say. “I didn't like how we left th

TRAVIS “We have a series of problems,” Mark says as he strolls into my study. “I suggest you brace yourself.” “What is it now?” I groan as I lean back in my chair. “Can't a man get one moment's peace?” “Not if they are an Alpha of a leading pack,” he retorts. “It is the price of greatness.” “Sure, whatever. What happened?” “Per your instructions, we followed Gaines to monitor his movements after he left the pack, and guess who visited him not long after he got home?” “I am not as obsessed with the man as he is with me, so how the hell am I supposed to know that?” I ask. “Who was it?” “Selene.” “Selene? Selene Lance? The deranged witch?” “The one and only.” “Wonderful,” I mutter. “Just bloody wonderful. What could a self made, important, egotistical witch like her want with a misogynistic and backwards man like Gaines?”
