The sun peeked through the curtains, soft and golden, but nothing about the morning felt warm. My eyes fluttered open, dry and heavy, like I hadn’t slept at all. The room was too quiet. And my chest… it ached with a heaviness I couldn’t name.

For a second, I forgot where I was. Then the memories came crashing back, one by one, like waves that didn’t stop.

I blinked, staring at the ceiling as a bitter taste rose in my throat.
