FAZER LOGINELENA
I didn't sleep that night. How could I? Every time I closed my eyes, I heard Adrian's words. "They'll come looking for her replacement." Me. I was the replacement. I sat on the edge of the enormous bed in the guest room, staring at the contract sitting on the table. Five million dollars. One year. Fake marriage. Possible death. I picked up my phone and called Mia. She answered immediately. "Are you alive?" "Unfortunately." "What happened?" "I got the job." "Seriously?" "Yes." "How much?" I hesitated. "Five million." Silence. Then— "FIVE MILLION WHAT?" "Dollars." Mia screamed so loudly I pulled the phone away from my ear. "You are marrying a billionaire?" "I don't think billionaire is the word I'd use." "What happened?" "I can't explain everything." "Elena." "I'll tell you later." A knock came at the door. I froze. "Someone's here." "Who?" I ended the call. The door opened. Adrian stood there. He had removed his jacket and tie. For some reason, seeing him without the formal suit made him seem more human. That was dangerous. "You're still awake." "Clearly." He looked at the untouched dinner beside my bed. "You haven't eaten." "I'm not hungry." "You need to eat." "I've had worse nights." He stepped inside. I crossed my arms. "Was the woman really your fiancée?" "Yes." "Did you love her?" His jaw tightened. "No." The answer came too quickly. I noticed. He noticed that I noticed. "Her name?" "Isabella." "What happened?" "She disappeared." "Because of you?" His eyes sharpened. "Be careful, Elena." I immediately regretted asking. "Sorry." He walked toward the door. Then stopped. "There's something you should know." I waited. "The marriage will be announced tomorrow." My eyes widened. "Tomorrow?" "We don't have time." "Why?" "Because people are already asking questions." "About Isabella?" "About why I haven't married her." I stared at him. "So I'm really doing this?" "You signed the contract." "You could have mentioned the danger before I signed." "You wouldn't have signed." "Exactly!" He almost smiled. Almost. "Get some sleep." He left. I stared at the closed door. For someone who was supposedly emotionless, he was incredibly good at making me angry. The next morning, a woman named Sofia arrived. She was Adrian's personal assistant. She brought clothes. Lots of clothes. Designer dresses. Shoes. Jewelry. I stared at everything. "I can't wear this." Sofia looked at me. "Why?" "Because I don't know how." She smiled. "You'll learn." Three hours later, I stood in front of the mirror wearing a black dress that cost more than my old apartment. Sofia adjusted my hair. "You look beautiful." I barely recognized myself. Then the door opened. Adrian entered. He stopped. For the first time, I saw him lose his composure. His eyes moved over me. Slowly. His expression became unreadable. I cleared my throat. "Is something wrong?" "No." He looked away. "Let's go." "Where?" "To buy your ring." The jewelry store was private. No customers. No cameras. Adrian walked toward the display. "Choose one." I stared at the diamonds. "They're expensive." "That's the point." I picked the simplest one. He frowned. "That?" "It's pretty." "It's small." "It's enough." He looked at me. Then nodded. The jeweler placed it on my finger. Adrian took my hand. His fingers brushed mine. A strange warmth traveled through me. I quickly pulled away. His eyes followed the movement. Neither of us spoke. That evening, the announcement was made. ADRIAN DE LUCA TO MARRY ELENA ROSSI. The internet exploded. News reporters gathered outside the mansion. Questions filled the air. Who was Elena Rossi? Where had she come from? Why had Adrian suddenly chosen her? I stood beside him on the balcony. His hand rested around my waist. For the cameras, we smiled. For the cameras, we looked in love. But beneath his breath, Adrian whispered— "Don't look frightened." "I'm not." "Your hands are shaking." "Because you're terrifying." His lips twitched. "Good." The cameras flashed. Then I noticed a man across the street. He wasn't taking pictures. He was staring directly at me. I looked again. He was gone. "Adrian." "What?" "Someone was watching me." His smile disappeared. "Where?" I pointed. He immediately signaled one of his men. Within seconds, security surrounded us. Adrian pulled me inside. "What did he look like?" "Dark hair. Black coat." "Did you see his face?" "No." He stared at the window. Then he said something that made my stomach twist. "He's here." "Who?" Adrian's expression turned cold. "The person who took Isabella."ELENA One year ago, I walked into Adrian De Luca's mansion looking for a job. I was desperate. Broke. Terrified. I thought I was going there to become a personal assistant. Instead, I became his wife. A fake wife. At least, that was how it started. Now I stood in front of a mirror wearing a white wedding dress. Again. But this time, everything was different. There was no contract waiting on the table. No five-million-dollar payment. No threat. No lie. Only love. My father knocked on the door. "Ready?" I smiled. "Almost." He looked at me. "You look like your mother." Tears filled my eyes. "I wish she could see this." "She can." He kissed my forehead. "She's here in everything you've become." I smiled. Then the doors opened. Music began. I walked down the aisle. At the end stood Adrian. He wasn't wearing black. For the first time, he wore white. His eyes never left mine. When I reached him, he took my hands. "You came." I laughed. "I told you I wou
The final confrontation happened at the docks. Adrian stood across from Luciano's remaining men. I watched from a safe distance with my father and the police. Luciano's right-hand man stepped forward. "You really think you can walk away?" Adrian remained calm. "Yes." "You don't walk away from this life." "I already have." "You are a De Luca." "I am." "Then act like one." Adrian shook his head. "My family spent generations building an empire based on fear." He lowered his weapon. "I'm ending it." The man laughed. "You're weak." Adrian looked at him. "No." He glanced toward me. "I'm choosing something more important." The man followed his gaze. "Your wife?" Adrian's expression immediately hardened. "Don't mention her." "So it's true." "What?" "She changed you." Adrian smiled slightly. "She didn't change me." He looked back at me. "She showed me who I wanted to become." The man raised his gun. "You'll regret this." "No." Adrian stepped forward. "I reg
I spent three days away from Adrian. Three days of pretending I was okay. I wasn't. My father found me sitting alone on the balcony. "You miss him." I sighed. "Is it that obvious?" "To a father? Yes." I smiled sadly. "He let me go." "Did he?" "He gave me five million dollars and divorce papers." My father frowned. "And you accepted?" "No." "Good." I looked at him. "You knew?" "I knew he was trying to protect you." "Why didn't you tell me?" "Because you needed to hear it from him." I looked down. "I thought he didn't love me anymore." My father shook his head. "Elena, that man nearly destroyed himself trying to find you when you were kidnapped." "I know." "He was terrified." "I know." "Then why are you here?" I wiped my tears. "Because he asked me to leave." My father smiled. "Sometimes people ask us to leave because they're afraid we'll stay." I looked at him. "What does that mean?" "Adrian believes his world is dan
I stared at the check on the table. Five million dollars. The exact amount written in our original contract. I looked at Adrian. "What's this?" "Your payment." "I know what it is." He remained silent. "Why are you giving it to me now?" "Because our agreement is finished." I looked at the divorce papers beside it. My heart sank. "You signed these?" "Yes." "Without telling me?" "I didn't think you'd want to stay." I laughed bitterly. "You didn't think I'd want to stay?" "Elena..." "No. Explain it." He looked away. "I don't want you trapped." "Trapped?" "Because of the contract." "The contract ended a long time ago." "I know." "Then why are you doing this?" He took a breath. "Because I love you." I stared at him. "That doesn't make sense." "It does." "No, it doesn't. If you love me, why are you asking me to leave?" "Because loving you means putting your safety before my happiness." I shook my head. "That's not your decision to make." "Yes, it is." "No
ELENA My father was alive. Those four words were the only thing I could think about as Adrian's car sped through the city. He sat beside me, completely silent. His hand was wrapped around mine. Neither of us said anything. We had both heard Sofia's final words. Your father has been captured. By Adrian's uncle. The man everyone believed was dead. "What's his name?" I finally asked. Adrian looked at me. "Luciano De Luca." My stomach twisted. "Your uncle." "Yes." "Why would he want my father?" "Because your father knows the truth." "What truth?" Adrian's jaw tightened. "The truth about my father's murder." I looked out the window. "So my father has been hiding all these years because of him." "Probably." "And Isabella?" "She discovered part of the truth." I looked at him. "That's why she was taken." "Yes." "And you?" He looked down. "I was next." I squeezed his hand. "But why me?" Adrian didn't answer. That frightened me more than anything. We arrived
The photograph changed everything. My father was alive. Somewhere. Someone had been hiding him. And now someone wanted me to find him. Adrian spent the entire night searching for answers. I watched him from the doorway of his office. He looked exhausted. "You need sleep." "So do you." "I'm not the one bleeding." He looked down at his bandaged arm. "I forgot." I smiled. "You're impossible." He looked at me. "You make me forget everything." My heart warmed. Then the door opened. Sofia entered. "Boss." Adrian turned. "What?" "We found the sniper's vehicle." "Where?" "Abandoned two streets away." "Anything inside?" "A phone." Adrian took it. The screen was already open. One message. THE TRAITOR IS CLOSER THAN YOU THINK. Adrian stared at it. Then the phone rang. He answered. No one spoke. Instead, a recording played. It was my father's voice. "Elena." I stepped closer. My heart pounded. "Elena, if you hear this, don't trust—" The recording cut out.
