Natalie’s POV
My bedroom door went flying with a loud bang as Lucien threw me unto the bed, he’s always like this every time a guy tries to talk to me and it’s getting under my skin… “What the heck is wrong with you Lucien? For goodness sakes you’re my stepbrother and why are you so pissed whenever a guy tries to get close to me?” “Natty how blind can you be? Those guys out there are just vultures who play with a girl’s heart and never truly love” “And you should care exactly why?” “Because I promised your mom to look after you” “I told you… to stop fucking mentioning my mom” “I’m sending everyone home, end of discussion and don’t throw parties like this again, dad will soon be home and I’m sure you wouldn’t like what he would have to say about your very reckless behavior” “Listen Lucien, I’m not you pet or dog to keep hostage just because your dad is my adoptive father, I can do whatever I wished to do it’s my life, get that into your fucking head” I said looking straight at him, and he still looked as cold and heartless as before, for 3 years I’ve been his step sister since my mum and his dad married. After the marriage 1 month later she died, due to careless shooting from the mafia rivals, I always told her for the longest of time never to marry into this family, but she was driven by money and didn’t listen, so she has herself to blame for her death. “Remain here, don’t come downstairs until they are all gone, do you understand?” “I don’t, because you’re not doing any such thing, they are my friends and I say when they leave…” i barely even completed what I was going to say, and he had his large hand wrapped around my neck and pinned me to the wall, his breathing shallow against the crook of my neck “I don’t appreciate it when someone refuses to do what I asked them to do natty, and you are doing just that right now, I’ll say this one last time, you stay here, I go downstairs and send your friends home, understood?” I still refused to give him an answer then he moved his other hand to my waist and grips it tightly “Let go of me asshole” “Change your clothes, I’ll be back by dinner time.” He replied blankly as he let go of my neck and left the room shutting the door behind him, and soon the music downstairs stopped playing, silence followed along as hurried footsteps left the penthouse. Few minutes later he arrived back upstairs and in my room with a tray of pancakes and milk… “Have it…” “Did I ask you to bring me diner?” “Eat!” He said in a deeper tone as he placed the tray on the table close to me, I was so mad because of everything that happened then I pushed the tray to the ground shattering it into pieces He smiled slightly then called one of the servants to come clean up the mess, when the servant left, he turned to me with no expression. He walked towards me slowly and that made my heart start to race uncontrollably, I wasn’t sure if he was angry, I didn’t in fact care if he was in the first place, I’ve heard stories from servants around the house that when he gets angry, he gets violent. The closer he gets, the darker his gaze on me, he steps in between my legs while I sat at the edge of the bed, he looked down at me then held my chin up, he finally spoke up “What do you want Natalie?” “You wouldn’t care one bit about what I want! So, get the fuck out of my room, I’m not hungry, even if I was, I wouldn’t eat anything served by you” “I’ll ask you one last time, what do you want?” “I want that guy who you beat up for just holding my hand to be come back” “And for what exactly?” “What’s your business with my personal life?” I yelled; He smirked before tilting my head up to face him “I know what you want… But your taste is…” He paused for a second before continuing “…bad, I’ll tell the servants to bring more pancakes and you better eat it or else the consequences for disobeying me would be severe, he paused before tightening his grip on my chin and tilting my head higher… “This dress doesn’t look good, change into something longer… it’s an order” “You want to control the way I dress too?” “It’s too short…and revealing, change, don’t make me ask a third time, I don’t appreciate repeating myself, I’m sure you should already know that by now” he shrugged before letting go of my face and straightening his jacket as he left the room He’s such a pain in the ass, he doesn’t want me to be with other guys, he doesn’t talk more than 2 paragraph, speaks in parable, what the fuck does he want? Now he doesn’t like my dress… I laid back down on my bed, staring at the blank ceiling, then at the wall, Celine came in to inform me my dinner was ready, and Lucien was waiting for me at the table, I went downstairs and sat at my regular chair, his father seated at the opposite longer end of the dinner table. There was no discussion going on at the dinner table if it didn’t involve guns, rivals and shooting, that was all the ever talked about, but today seemed rather quiet, and it was nice not hearing any their bullshit. I spun my spaghetti around my fork and had a bite, I looked up to notice Lucien was already staring at me intensely. That creeped me out, and despite being caught red handed he didn’t feel the need to quit it. He was such a freak, I cleared my throat and rounded up my eating, had my water and went back upstairs. I was scrolling on my phone when I heard a sound on my window then I looked up to see someone was throwing rocks at it, I walked slowly towards it to check it out and could this day get any worse, it was my ex. I broke up with him a month ago and I’m pretty sure Lucien made it clear to him never to come back ever again but here he is grinning from ear to ear just because I opened my window, I was indeed surrounded by assholes. I was too busy thinking of how to tell him to leave I didn’t notice someone opened my door until he cleared his throat “Ehem, aren’t you supposed to be in bed by now what are you still doing up so late” I was startled when I heard him speak I shut the blinds before turning to face him. “I didn’t know I needed your permission to sleep too, what do you want now? If you’re here to make my night worse than it is then sorry to say, I’ve had enough for one night” “I didn’t come to start an argument… I came to give you this…” He paused, before opening his hand to reveal a choker necklace with a diamond in the middle… “What’s this for?” “Your birthday passed, and I didn’t give you something, so this is your gift from me “And what if I said I didn’t want it?” “It wasn’t a request” he said coldly before turning me to face the wall and putting the necklace around my neck then he turned me back to face him, leaned in slightly and brushed a strand of my hair slightly as his hot breath touched my skin, it sent shivers down my spine, he pulled back quickly and left the room leaving me stunned and confused.Natalie's POV Lucien looked down at me, his hands still resting on my shoulders."Natalie?"The moment I met his eyes, everything I'd been holding inside me finally broke.I threw my arms around his neck and buried my face against his chest. The tears came before I could stop them, spilling down my cheeks as the weight of everything I'd endured settled over me.I cried for the fear, the lies, the nights I'd spent wondering whether I would ever escape the nightmare that had become my life. I cried for the person I'd been before all of this happened, and I cried because, despite everything, I was still standing and Lucien held me tighter."It's okay, Natalie," he whispered, stroking my hair. "I've got you. You're safe now."I shook my head against his chest, unable to find the words I needed. "It's over," he murmured. "You don't have to fight anymore."For so long, I'd forced myself to be strong. I'd swallowed my fear, hidden my pain, and kept moving because stopping had never felt lik
Natalie's POV The woman standing before him didn't flinch. She looked at him with an expression I couldn't quite decipher, but there was no fear in her eyes. No hesitation. Only the quiet fury of someone who had waited far too long for this moment.Several guests turned toward the noise. Others exchanged confused looks, their attention shifting between the older man and the woman who had somehow managed to unsettle him with a single word.Elena. Lucien's mother. The woman Mr. Moretti had made Lucien believe was gone forever.I looked toward Lucien. He was staring at her, his face drained of color. His lips parted, but no sound came out. He looked as though the ground beneath him had disappeared without warning."Mother?" he whispered.Elena turned toward him… the hard expression on her face softened as she turned to him "Lucien."He took one step forward, but Mr. Moretti moved abruptly, placing himself between them."What are you doing here?" he demanded.Elena let out a short, humor
Natalie's POVThe room went silent. Every conversation stopped as the guests turned toward Mr. Moretti, their curiosity evident in the expectant faces surrounding the platform. Even the musicians had lowered their instruments, leaving the hall unusually quiet.Mr. Moretti took a final sip of wine before setting his glass on a nearby table. He adjusted his grip on his walking stick and made his way toward the front.Aiden's fingers remained intertwined with mine…I glanced at him, but his attention was fixed on the older man. There was something unsettling about the faint smile on his face, as though he already knew how the evening would unfold.I turned back toward the platform expecting the announcement to get started immediately “Today is a very important day for me,” Mr. Moretti began. “Over the years, I've worked hard to build this family and establish everything we have. I've made sacrifices, faced challenges, and learned some difficult lessons along the way.” Several guests nodd
Natalie's POV“Natalie?”Lucien's voice barely reached me above the music, but I heard it. I wanted to answer him. There were a thousand things I wanted to tell him, and not one of them could be settled by standing across a crowded room staring at each other.I took a step in his direction but Aiden moved before I could take another. His arm slid around my waist, pulling me firmly against his side. His fingers settled against my hip as though he needed to remind everyone in the room exactly where I belonged, I stiffened trying to think of anything I could say if I got closer to him..“What are you doing?” I whispered.“Standing with my wife.”“I can see that. You don't have to hold me like I'm about to run away.”His smile remained fixed for the benefit of the watching guests “Then stop looking as though you're about to.”I looked up at him, irritation prickling beneath my skin. Across the room, Lucien was still watching us. His expression had changed, His gaze dropped briefly to Aide
Natalie's POVI was standing in front of the mirror when Aiden walked into my room without knocking.I turned at the sound of the door, expecting him to tell me the car was ready. Instead, he stopped just inside and looked me over with an expression of exaggerated curiosity.“What's the occasion?”I stared at him, for several seconds, I genuinely wondered whether he had hit his head somewhere between his bedroom and mine.“Excuse me?”He glanced at my dress, then back at my face. “You look as though you're expecting someone important.”“Aiden.”“Yes, darling?”“Don't start.”“Start what?”I set down the lipstick I had been holding and faced him fully.“It's the day of the charity event. The event you've spent the last several days reminding me about. The event with all your precious rules. And now you're standing in my room asking me what the occasion is?”Then his lips twitched and he replied… “Oh, that.”I narrowed my eyes. “Are you trying to annoy me?”“Not intentionally.”“You're
Natalie's POVLater that afternoon, I found Aiden, I had made a decision. I wasn't going to argue with him today. Not because his apology had erased what he'd said, and certainly not because I had suddenly decided he deserved my trust. I simply couldn't afford to waste another day fighting over things that changed nothing. The charity event was approaching, and I needed to be prepared. Aiden stood near the windows in his study, examining something on his desk. I knocked lightly against the open door.He looked up with a smile spread across his face then he called out “Natalie.”“Are you ready for the event?”His expression shifted. “That's an interesting question.”“It's a straightforward one.”“Is it?” He put down the paper in his hand and turned to me fully “This morning, you were ready to tear my head off. Today, you're asking about our plans as though nothing happened.”“I don't remember saying nothing happened.”“Then what changed?”I stepped further into the room. “Must there al
Natalie’s POV I never thought this day would ever come, a day when Lucien was this close to me and even on the same bed as me, the maid left after dropping off the message then I let out a sigh of relief as I peeked under my duvet… “Get the fuck out Lucien! What the fuck were you thinking?” He sl
Natalie’s POV There was no way I could duck and hide because he was already close enough, he could hear my breathing get heavy, my heart drummed in my chest as I stood still thinking of what excuse to tell him. “Natalie why are you going through my stuff?” “I’m sorry I didn’t see anything I’l
“Mum?” I sprinted for the door as I saw her walked past, still in that dream again I never get past every single time, probably a nightmare of some sort but I didn’t see any blood yet. I opened the door to check if mum was alright, she was right there, within reach then I stretched my hand forwar
Natalie’s POV I sat at my room balcony wandering what my life would have been if I didn’t become part of this family, safety, peace and no killing of the innocent, then there came a knock on my door, it was rather a bang and not a knock. “Why can’t I have some peace and quiet for one afternoon, u
