The black Charger flew down the mountain, its headlights cutting through the thick fog like two yellow eyes. Inside, the air was heavy with the smell of old blood and the sharp, hot energy of the bond.

Kaelen’s hand was still on Sera’s thigh. He didn't let go, even when he had to shift gears. Every time he touched her, the Life-Tether hummed deep in Sera's chest. It felt like a warm vibration that told her exactly what he was feeling. Right now, he felt like a storm, dark, heavy, and ready to break.

"Kaelen, you’re hurting me," Sera whispered.

He jumped, his grip loosening instantly. He didn't look at her, but his eyes in the rearview mirror were still black. "I’m sorry. I can’t... I can't turn it off. I feel your heart racing, and it makes my wolf want to hunt whatever is scaring you."

"You’re what’s scaring me," she said softly.

Through the bond, she felt a sharp spike of his guilt. It was a cold, bitter taste in the back of her throat.

"I know," he rasped. "I left you once. I won't do it again. Even if you hate me for it."

In the back seat, Silas let out a rough, wet cough. The sound was wrong; it sounded like glass breaking in his lungs. Sera turned around, her heart sinking.

Silas was leaning against the window, his face ghostly pale. His hand was clutching his arm, trying to hide the silver veins that were now glowing through his shirt. The "Pack Bond" was still there, buzzing like a broken wire. Because Silas wasn't part of the Life-Tether, he felt like a ghost sitting in the cold while Kaelen and Sera shared a fire.

"Silas, let me see," Sera said, reaching back.

"Don't touch me!" Silas snapped. His eyes flashed, a swirl of liquid silver moving through his blue iris. He pulled away from her, his voice full of a jealousy that made the air in the car turn cold. "You’ve got your Alpha now, Sera. You’ve got your soul-mate. Why do you care about the tracker?"

"You're my friend, Silas," she said, her voice trembling.

"Friend?" Silas laughed, but it turned into another cough. "I was the one who stayed. For three years, I watched you cry in that cabin. I was the one who protected you from the shadows while he was out playing King. And now? One howl and you're his again."

Sera felt Kaelen’s anger rise. The car swerved as Kaelen’s muscles tightened.

"Watch your tone, Silas," Kaelen growled, his voice dropping into a primal Alpha warning. "The rot is making you crazy."

"The rot is making me see the truth!" Silas shouted. He lunged forward, grabbing the back of Kaelen’s seat. "You’re tethered to her because you're weak, Kael. You couldn't protect her as a man, so you had to chain her soul like a dog."

Kaelen slammed on the brakes. The car skidded to a halt at the edge of a cliff overlooking the Crag of Ancestors. The moon above was now a deep, bloody red. The eclipse was almost complete.

Kaelen turned around, his face inches from Silas’s. The Alpha and the Tracker stared at each other, the old pack bond screaming between them.

"I did it to save her life," Kaelen hissed.

"You did it because you’re a thief," Silas whispered back.

Sera felt the explosion before it happened. The ground beneath the car buckled. A giant, black root larger than the car itself burst through the road. It flipped the Charger onto its side, glass shattering everywhere.

Sera screamed as her head hit the window. Darkness moved in the trees. The "Wild Hunt" had found them.

Through the fog of her pain, she felt Kaelen’s hand find hers in the wreckage. Even upside down, the tether held. But as she looked toward the back of the car, she saw Silas crawling out of the broken window.

He didn't look back at them. He stood up and walked toward the shadows of the woods.

"Silas!" Sera cried out.

A tall figure stepped out of the dark. It was the First-Born. He looked like a king made of rot and silver. He held out a hand to Silas, and for the first time, Silas didn't draw his daggers.

"The Alpha stole your place," the First-Born’s voice echoed in all their minds. "Help me break the tether, and she will be yours."

Silas looked back at the car at Kaelen holding Sera, and his eyes turned completely silver.

"Do it," Silas whispered.

The betrayal hit Sera harder than the car crash. The triangle was broken. The fight for her heart had just become a war.

The engine of the Council’s lead SUV didn't just roar; it screamed as Kaelen ripped the driver’s side door off its hingesEverything happened in a blur of silver and shadow. Elena’s guards were fast, but Kaelen was a Black-Shuck Alpha fueled by the raw, desperate energy of the Life-Tether. He moved like a glitch in reality, a streak of obsidian fur and human rage. Before the first guard could even chamber a silver round, Kaelen had slammed him into the dirt and snatched the keys from the ignition of the second vehicle."Sera, move!" Kaelen roared.Sera didn't hesitate. She dived into the passenger seat of the white SUV, her heart feeling like it was going to burst through her ribs. The moment Kaelen jumped in beside her and slammed the vehicle into reverse, the Council guards opened fire. The sound of silver bullets hitting the reinforced glass was like hail on a tin roof loud, rhythmic, and terrifying. Clink. Clink. Snap. One of the bullets spider-webbed the windshield right in front

The sun rose over the Oakhaven valley, but it didn't feel like a victory.Kaelen’s black Charger was a twisted heap of metal at the bottom of the cliff. The cabin was a pile of ash. Seraphina sat on a mossy rock, her hands wrapped around a tattered blanket Kaelen had pulled from the wreckage. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw the white light of the explosion. She saw Silas’s face right before the fire took him.Through the Life-Tether, she felt a heavy, cold stone in her chest. It wasn't her own grief it was Kaelen’s.Kaelen stood a few feet away, staring at the spot where the altar used to be. He was shirtless, his back covered in fresh scars from the silver rot. His muscles were tight, and his jaw was locked. He looked like a statue of a fallen god.He thinks it’s his fault, Sera thought. The bond hummed in response. It is my fault, Kaelen’s voice echoed in her head, dark and bitter. I brought the rot to your door. I drove Silas to the edge. I should have been the one on that

  • THE MOON’S RECKONING   Chapter 6: The Altar of the Blood Moon

The climb to the peak was a blur of jagged stone and freezing wind. Every step Sera took felt like she was dragging a lead weight. Through the Life-Tether, she felt Kaelen’s body failing. His breathing was ragged, and his heartbeat was slowing down. The silver rot Silas had hit him with was like a poison, fighting his Alpha blood."Kaelen, lean on me," Sera urged, wrapping his heavy arm around her shoulders. He didn't argue. He couldn't. His skin was pale, and his black eyes were hazy with pain. "I can feel him, Sera. The First-Born... he’s using Silas as a battery. He’s draining what’s left of his soul to open the Gate."They reached the top of the Crag, and the air turned still. In the center of the stone circle, Silas was suspended in mid-air. He wasn't standing; he was floating, his body arched back as if he were being electrocuted. Thousands of silver threads pulled from his chest, connecting him to the ancient altar. The First-Born stood behind him, his clawed hands resting on S

The world was upside down. Smoke and the smell of leaking gas filled the cabin of the wrecked Charger. Sera’s head throbbed, but the pain wasn't just hers. Through the tether, she felt a jagged, white-hot heat. Kaelen was pinned under the steering column, his leg crushed, yet his only thought a pulsing, golden light in her mind was her safety."Sera... get out..." Kaelen rasped. His skin was already beginning to knit back together, his Alpha healing fighting the weight of the metal.Sera kicked at the shattered windshield until the glass gave way. She crawled out onto the cold, wet dirt, her hands stinging from the gravel. She turned back to pull Kaelen out, but she stopped when a shadow fell over her.Silas stood ten feet away. He wasn't the man who had brought her supplies and shared quiet jokes for the last three years. The silver rot had climbed his neck, looking like frozen lightning. Behind him, the First-Born loomed like a nightmare made of moonlight and bone."He won't let you

  • THE MOON’S RECKONING   Chapter 3: The Broken Heart's Beat

The black Charger roared, the engine sounding like a trapped beast as the tires spun on the wet mud. Kaelen’s hand was still firm on Sera’s thigh, his heat soaking through her jeans. It wasn't just a touch; it was a claim. Through the life-tether, Sera felt his protective fury like a physical weight. It was heavy, dark, and possessive. It made her heart hammer against her ribs, but she didn’t know if it was from fear or the old, buried feelings she tried so hard to kill.In front of them, the faceless woman stood perfectly still. Her white dress fluttered in the wind, looking like a shroud. The single silver eye in her forehead pulsed with a rhythmic, sickly light."The Seer Bride," the creature hissed again. The voice didn't come from a mouth; it echoed directly inside Sera’s skull, cold and oily."Get her back, Silas!" Kaelen barked.Kaelen didn't wait for a response. He threw the car door open and stepped out into the rain. As he stood, his shadow seemed to grow, stretching across
