LOGINSorrel’s POV
The pack house was a mess as we tried to clean up. Blood filled the house. It was too much and too sudden that the oracle and a couple of white werewolves had to come down to the pack.
They were doing the cleansing of the pack while we dragged the dead bodies out. I couldn’t keep the fact that the guard I’d seen Alpha Nathaniel with was dead.
He would be so devastated and heartbroken.
A total of fifteen guards and servants were dead. We lined up the body to be burned. Kaine led the burning and from across the angry flames our eyes met.
My heart stopped suddenly when a thought occurred to me.
Was this my fault? Our fault? What if our matebond had caused this? And the fact that he’d stared at my naked body. Was this our punishment?
As I thought about it I couldn’t help but agree. I caused the death of fifteen werewolves. This was my fault.
I looked away and walked inside.
The pack was in mourning and the council called a meeting the next day. This was my first meeting as Luna of the Wolffang pack, and I was anxious, feeling like an imposter.
“We know the state of the pack,” said an elder, “everyone is in mourning, sad after the tragic incident. We need something that will lift their spirits.”
He paused and looked at each of our faces, then added. “We need to create a distraction and make them feel safe.”
“And how will we do that, Atreus?” Asked another elder.
“The way it’s been done.” Elder Atreus' eyes sparkled. “We need a baby announcement.”
My heart stopped dead in my chest.
What?
A baby?
No one said anything or protested to her about how bizarre this idea was. Only I saw it and I had to say something.
“A baby will not solve the problem, Elder Atreus,” I said and all eyes turned to me. “It will make us look insensitive and inconsiderate of their pain.”
They were silent and I thought they were considering my words, seeing the truth in them, when I decided to give an idea. “Back home when something—“
“This is not your home, Sorrel.”
That statement came like a sword through my chest, sharp and lethal.
“And here at Wolffang pack we do things differently.” Another chipped in. “You will get pregnant and the oracle along with a handful of white wolves would stay in the pack house to assure everyone that everything is under control and it was just a hiccup. Nothing more.”
My throat closed as I listened to their plan, this was beyond bizarre. It was stupid.
I looked at Alpha Nathaniel for support, but he said nothing.
“The Luna should be with a child in the next two weeks, while we will make the other arrangements to have the pack in order.”
This was really happening, it was difficult to breathe and when I stared at Alpha Nathaniel I could tell he hated the idea as well and he was probably angry at me as well.
The meeting ended and I stumbled to my room, nauseous. I felt sick to my stomach, my hands trembled as tears fell uncontrollably.
I dropped to the bed, but then my reality sank in.
*I’m Luna, I can’t be crying over every inconvenience. Yes, my situation is hard, but I’m not the only one having it hard. I should try to see how I can get along with Alpha Nathaniel because neither he nor I wanted this.*
It was already evening when I arranged myself and walked out of my room. I went to the kitchen to make my go-to tea when everything was in shambles.
The servants wanted to help but I told them not to worry, I got this, and they could rest. I couldn’t imagine how they were feeling right now.
I made two chamomile teas and took them up. One was for me and the other was for Alpha Nathaniel. He must be tired, not to mention heartbroken and I know he and I got off on the wrong foot with him believing that I was evil, but I could set everything right, explain to him, and tell him I would stand by his side no matter what.
On getting to the door, I held the tray of tea in one hand and pushed the door open to his room.
“Hi, Alpha, I come bearing good offerings, I know we got off on the wrong—“
My words died in my throat as I jumped back. The tray of tea dropped to the floor and clattered.
I couldn’t move as I stared at him, knee deep, body flushed with sweat, grunting as he pounded aggressively into his…his sister. His sister—Abigeal.
His eyes met mine, they landed on the discarded tea cups and tray, and then up to me.
He didn’t stop upon seeing me, he picked up the pace and fucked her harder, faster.
Abigeal's laughter roared in the room, her eyes pinned on me as he kept driving into her.
1…2…3 minutes passed before I turned and bolted out of the room, vision blurry, head clouded and steps scattered.
“Ma’am are you—“
I didn’t answer the maid as I flew into my room, down to the toilet. I got down on my knees and shut everything out of my mouth.
The image was ingrained in my head, the more it replayed the more I vomited till I had nothing left to get out.
He and his sister
Oh my goddess
What have I— my eyelids fluttered close and my body suddenly became weak.
I pushed myself to a standing position, but the world tipped and went dark on me.
******
Hands kept brushing my hair soothingly till I blinked my eyes open.
A pair of green eyes stared back at me and I jumped back.
Abigeal.
“What do you want from me?” My gaze drifted up and down her body. “Is this why you were mad at me for marrying him? You have been sleeping with your brother?”
“You…”
I didn’t let her finish, my face scrunched into disgust. “Do you know how insane that is?”
She was quiet for a moment, observing me in bewilderment. Then she blurted out. “You remember?”
I scoffed. “No one will forget a thing like that.”
She shut up to her feet and clasped my mouth instantly. “You remember everything?”
“You want me to go into detail?” I pushed her hand from my mouth and lifted a brow at her.
Abigeal chuckled darkly. “Looks like sweet brother has met his match.” She spoke absentmindedly.
Her hands found mine and drew me close. “If you value your life, you’ll keep your mouth shut and act like you didn’t remember anything.”
I swallowed, beads of sweat rolling down my spine. “Why?”
My voice was coarse and fear was evident in my eyes. I couldn’t even hide it.
“Because you are not his first wife.” Her voice was eerily quiet. “When they die nobody remembers them or asks questions. You were not supposed to remember what you saw last night.”
A lump formed in my throat. “Is—is that why you continued? Why you didn't stop?”
She bopped her head. “He asked me to check on you and make sure you don’t remember a thing.”
I searched her face to check if this was some sort of joke, but there wasn’t, she was dead serious.
“I’m only telling you this because I like you, Sorrel.”
As she spoke my heart thumped loudly in my chest, blocking out her words until she added.
“The council has ordered him to get you pregnant. He’ll be coming to you today. Don’t let him know you remember a thing.” Her gaze hardened. “This is a matter of life and death and if you die, not a single soul will remember you.”
With that, she was gone. My head was spinning, blood whooshing violently in my head.
What have I gotten myself into?
Shit I should've run. Nadia was right, fuck she was right.
Sometimes I believed it, other times I believed it was a deliberate prank from Abigeal till dead at night when a knock came.
I startled to my feet, walked on trembling legs to throw it open and when I did, there he was in a black robe like the devil.
“Strip,” he ordered and stepped inside. “Get on the bed and open your legs.”
The Oracle’s POVShe got closer despite my previous warning. She was in the temple, though I could not remember how she got in “Come to me Oracle.” Her voice was small, smooth, and lilting like oil.It washed over my skin and my chest hot in that familiar foreign yet pleasant way.“I cannot,” I told her, remaining firm on my words, my doctrine and principles. “Why not?” She asked, tone still soft and tender. “Why will you keep yourself from your mate?”“I am not supposed to—“Suddenly she was not as far as she appeared, she was standing beside me. She traced a finger over my arms, my cuffs, and took my wrist.“You are mine, Kaine.”Her voice remained ever soothing, luring me in like a siren.“And I am yours. Do you not like it? For me to be yours?”I inhaled, knowing the right answer yet, finding it hard to say the word.“Imagine Kaine,” she got on her toes, her fingers wrapped behind my neck gently, warmly, with so much affection. My heart took a maddening beat, I could not keep up
Abigeal’s POVThe cell was cold, bitterly cold and I had been stripped to nothing but my undies. Nathaniel didn’t order this, but he didn’t have to, all the guards were doing what they presumed was fitting for trying to murder their sweet, kind-hearted Alpha.I wrapped my arms around my body to warm myself up. It did little to bring the heat I craved and it was worse for me since my wolf had gone dormant. There was a banging on the cell door and a figure appeared at the dark hour of the night.“You have a visitor,” the guard on duty said harshly.“I don’t want to talk to anyone.” I had my back to him, still rubbing my arms, desperate for some warmth.“You do not have a choice. It’s the Luna.”A cold weight settled in my chest as I heard that. She had told me to wait, to be careful and be patient, but I hadn’t been because I couldn’t be. Not anymore. However, I felt like I must have walked into even bigger trouble.“I don’t want to see her either!” I looked away from him.The guard cur
Sorrel’s POVHad I been expecting those words? Yes.I’d been expecting them, even knowing he was the oracle, but it didn’t negate the way my chest burned hot from hearing them out loud.He really sentenced his blood sister to death.“She should be held by the centre and killed by the Alpha for all to see and learn that no attempt of treason against the Alpha would go unpunished.” He commanded and I looked at him, lost for words. When they said their emotions were cooked out of them, was this it? I scoffed even as tears filled my eyes.Without sympathy or emotions, we were mere animals. The moon goddess just wanted vessels carrying out her sick orders.Werewolves around nodded at the judgement, seemingly satisfied with the verdict, but they were horrified, their face let out that much.“Drag her out!” Came the sharp order of Elder Kaelor. “A public display just as the Oracle has spoken.”Warriors marched forward, grabbed Abigeal by the arm, and yanked her up roughly. On instinct, I t
Sorrel’s POVThe call came in the early hours of the morning. Poppy was banging relentlessly on my door.“What is it?” I threw the door open and asked. “Do you want to wake the entire pack house?”“Your highness—“ she was panting. I poked my head out to see if she was being chased or to find out why she was banging on my door this early in the morning.“The Alpha—“Dead? Is the Alpha dead?I could hear the chaos coming from downstairs, the commotion, yelling, and the heavy pounds of warriors’ boots.I grabbed Poppy by the shoulder, “Talk to me, what’s the problem?” Is the Alpha dead? “Did something happen to the alpha?” I tried for something more demure and discreet.“Almost.” My heart leaped, almost…..then.Fear struck me and every hope I had was sliced clean. She didn’t need to say the next word for me to know what the commotion was about.“Lady Abigeal tried to murder the king.”Even already anticipating the words, hearing them and confirming them settled in my gut like a stone i
Abigeal’s POVLuna Sorrel looked at me like I’d grown two horns on my head.“Are you insane?” She demanded, walking over to me. “You cannot go around saying things like that!”“Why not!” I snapped. “He….” I heaved, cutting myself off.“He has been abusing me for goddess knows how long and you think it is brass to say that I want to kill him?”She was quiet for a moment, her green eyes and white brows furrowed.I know she was also a victim of his even if she would never say that out loud, never own up to it.I had no clue what she was getting from hiding it from me, but I knew as well.“Tell me,” she took my arms. “What's the problem? Why the sudden change of heart?”“I realized I have never considered it, right from when it started. I thought I would be too small and weak for him.”She went silent, her brain picking up everything I just said and realigning, restructuring, and analyzing it.“If…” she lifted her head, eyes filled with fear and determination. “If you are to do this, you
Sorrel’s POVMy heart beat like a war drum, blood whooshing violently in my ears as we all stared at him—shocked to the bones.Kaine did as well. He was staring at his outstretched hand, finding it hard to believe what he was about to do.My eyes crept from his outstretched hand, hovering just above my thighs to his eyes. They were wide with terror as we locked eyes. His throat worked; he swallowed, and then the sound of his chair scraping back on the floor revealed him standing. His hands were balled into fists by his side. He stood. A minute. Followed by another. Time ticked by and he just stood in one spot.Slowly, his head lifted and they first met my eyes, before he curtsied. “It is wonderful to have you in the pack, Luna Sorrel will really need your presence,” he said to my mother.“Stay and get properly treated.”His tone was restrained, taut and flat and he would not meet my eyes.“I will be on my way now,” he bowed and with that he whirled, storming out of the room like ghos
Sorrel’s POVI jumped to my feet and tossed the pillow and sheets on the bed. Then I quickly smoothed my hair. With a glance at the mirror, I threw the door open.My breath hitched.Sometimes I forgot how ethereal Kaine was. He had jet-black hair, and I didn’t know if he put effort into looking oth

Sorrel’s povMy body was on fire. For two days after the rejection, it felt like I would combust into tiny pieces of flesh, but I didn’t and some part of me wished I’d do.Today I was accepting my fate.I was Luna to the Wolffang pack and I was married to Alpha Nathaniel whether I liked it or not.
Sorrel’s povNo…no…noI stumbled back, hands on the wall as I tried to find my way back to my fitting room. Noise hummed in my head and their moans floated at the back of my mind.*It’s normal. It’s okay after all this is all just formalities* I told myself repeatedly as I crept down the cold hallw
