LOGINSorrel’s POV
I jumped to my feet and tossed the pillow and sheets on the bed. Then I quickly smoothed my hair. With a glance at the mirror, I threw the door open. My breath hitched. Sometimes I forgot how ethereal Kaine was. He had jet-black hair, and I didn’t know if he put effort into looking otherworldly every day, but he looked breathtaking. Against my very will I let my eyes commit everything about his body to memory. I just wish I could touch him—feel him “How are you feeling?” His question snapped me out of my trance and I realized I’d been ogling him before the presence of his fellow whiteness. If it were possible at that moment, it seemed as if my face was on fire. “Fine,” I rasped out, my voice rough and hard. He looked over at me, not a fleeting glance, an intentional one that made my spine prickle. “What are you doing here?” My eyes darted from him to his fellow Whiteness. “It’s very early in the morning.” It was the lady who answered. “We are here to fortify your room.” “Fortify?” I asked even as I stepped aside to let them in. “Fortify against what?” “The plague.” They answered in unison and got into the room. I wrapped my hands around my body, watching as they took out candles, lit them, and carried them across every angle in the room. Pain seared through me, but I bit my lower lip to hold back a groan. However, Kaine turned back to me. “Are you okay?” He noticed. I was ready to lie when I heard Nadia, *don’t lie to mate to protect that monster* “I’m fine.” I plastered a very believable smile, “Just tired.” His eyes didn’t quickly go back to what he was doing. It remained on me longer than I liked. “Why are you staring at me like that, Kaine?” I dropped my voice and looked at him from my lashes. “I might get you dirty.” I made my tone very suggestive and he blinked rapidly, flustered. I snickered and the others turned to us. Kaine put as much distance as possible between us after that. His eyes never glanced in my direction again and I frowned. It was pleasing watching him flustered like that. They burned some incense and waved it around the room. From the window, to the wardrobe, and then to the bathroom. When they were down they lit one and used it over me. I held my breath, my heart pounding. What if they found out what Nathaniel did to me? And what if they did? Would I be scared or elated? There was only one way to find out. I held out, waiting to see if they would find anything; instead, I heard. “If you feel anything off around you, quickly alert us,” the woman said. Their face, hair, and body were covered in white, not a strand of hair out of place. Then on their chest was a half-crystal moon. Kaine was dressed in an all-white garment as well. The same half moon over his chest. They looked like gods with their pale glowing skin. “Of course,” I bowed, showing my respect even if I didn’t believe them. This just proved why I didn’t. They left. The moment I shut the door, I let out a breath I hadn’t known to be holding. *Why did you lie to our mate?* Nadia demanded. “He’s not our mate anymore, have you forgotten?” She went silent then. I sighed and stared at the room. My feet carried me before I could process them. I was already in the bathroom. My robe was gone as I sponged my body hard. Washed between my thighs so hard, I sustained a new injury. But I didn’t mind, didn’t care. ***** When I left the room it was evening. My body had healed some of the physical wounds and I didn’t need to worry about walking awkwardly around the pack house Just as I got downstairs a guard walked up to me. “A letter came in for you, your highness." A letter? I eyed the envelope, then I took it. Who could it be? The guard left and I opened the letter with a finger. Immediately I read it, my heart sank. It was a cry from my mother about the aid. Apparently, Nathaniel hadn’t sent anything. Rage, pure and hot burned inside me. If he thought he was going to do whatever he wanted without holding to his side of this sick bargain, then he didn’t know what was coming for him. I squeezed the letter in my hand and stormed over to his study even without knowing what I was going to say to him. Stopping by the door, my hand lingered in the air, I took a deep breath. ‘For my people, I mumbled before knocking on the door. I pushed it open to see a woman on the floor wailing. I stopped by the door and watched. Nathaniel was busy. He was sighing on a piece of paper, then he took another one. This man was just purely cruel. I went to the woman, and I draped my hand over her shoulder. But she shoved me away. I relented. “What’s the problem? The Alpha is busy, I’m sure I can help you with whatever you want.” By my words, she faced me, eyes red from crying. “You can help me?” She asked tentatively. Making a promise was very important. What if I couldn’t help her? “I can try to. First.” I helped her to her feet. “Talk to me.” She took my hand. They were wrinkled and calloused, “my son.” She choked out. “What happened to your son?” “The—plague. He’s dead.” My heart dropped. “My poor son only wanted to work and get medicine for me.” Then she turned to look at Nathaniel. “He said the Alpha was his friend?” Now my stomach churned violently. What if her son were the guard Nathaniel had slept with? “The alpha won’t tell me what killed him.” “I don’t know your son, woman!” He snapped, standing up. He was walking over to us when the door to his study opened to Kaine. His eyes first dropped to mine, then to his brother and the woman. “I know you are the oracle but can you make your presence scarce? It spoils my mood,” Nathaniel said to his brother. Kaine mostly just stared at him with a flat gaze, no emotions lingering, but not Nathaniel, who looked visibly ready to plunge a stake through his chest. “My son was a guard in the royal pack house.” Because Nathaniel was closer to her now, she grabbed his hand. “Please what happened to my son? What’s the plague? Why didn’t it hurt others?” She was asking when Nathaniel struck her hard on the face. The woman fell and tried to reach for him again on her knees, but Nathaniel kicked her away roughly. “Alpha!” The words left me in a rush as I hurried over to the woman. I lifted my head to Nathaniel, but he was already by the door calling for the guards. Kaine placed a hand on his brother’s shoulder. “Brother.” It happened very fast, Nathaniel twisted out and wrapped his hand around Kaine’s throat, he slammed the oracle hard against the wall. “Do. Not. Touch. Me.” He growled, his voice glowing green.Sorrel’s POVI stared back for a long time, waiting to hear the voice again, but I did not. It was all as if I imagined it.I waited… waited… and still nothing.Perhaps I did.“Luna Sorrel?” Stacy called and I jerked to the present.I cleared my throat and mentally smacked myself. “Sorry.”“Are you okay?” She asked. “You blanked out there for a moment.”I gave her my best reassuring smile. “Yeah. Yeah. Just shocked.”She grimaced, looked at her dead sister, and started sobbing again.I showed her and her husband a fresh room, the maids arranged it while they settled in.“How could my sister just die….she was fine. She was—““We’ll get to the bottom of this, Kaine will make sure of it,” I said, assuring her with nothing but a lie.The Whiteness had not discovered the sudden plague from last time, which made us throw the party, and now there was another one.One though. But the same symptoms. And two things the dead girl and the others had in common were; unusual bleeding and screwed Na
Sorrel’s POV“Ahhh!”A scream rippled through the hallway stopping me instantly on my steps. I twisted my neck and looked back.“What’s that?” I asked Poppy who immediately turned back with me.“I don’t know, your highness.”“Let’s take a loo—“I’ve barely completed my word when Luna Stacy came running. I caught her by reflex. It had been three days since the ball to quell the worry of the pack members. Most Alphas had departed to their packs safe for the alphas we had alliance with and the Alphas Nathaniel was trying to get to be his ally.Luna Stacy and her husband were part of those still in the pack house.“What’s the problem?” I asked, staring at a frightened Stacy. Her lips were trembling, body shaking under my fingers. Her head kept snapping back and forth like she expected something to chase her.“Look at me, tell me, what’s the problem? I can help.”And where the bleeding hell were her servants, why was the Luna alone?“B-b-blood.”By the mention of that one word my heart sl
Oracle’s POVThe first thing that I felt when her lips touched mine was fire.Scorching fire.I froze. She leaned even closer and her scent trailed past my nose. A soft sweet scent of flowers that reminded me of summer….The feeling of summer was soft and relaxing. However, her touch, her scent felt like the opposite. My heart beat accelerated, pulse slammed harder against my neck while my body felt like it was set ablaze.Every symptom resembled distress rather than relaxation.Yet the urge to pull away never came.Quite the opposite tho.How could something so distressful be so relaxing at the same time? Her fingers dropped to my arms and a strange tremor moved beneath my skin. “Luna—““Sorrel,” she breathed against my lips and the space beneath my ribs tightened. “Call me Sorrel.”Her lips trailed my lower one and I felt her tongue inside me.The heat was like a slam back into reality. Instantly I jerked back. All my senses are returning to me at once.My chest was as if an infern
Sorrel’s POVMy stomach twisted into knots with every step he took forward. Fear shot through me even as I remained still. There was nothing I could say, nothing to do. Because I knew what was going to happen I hadn't bothered to think of a lie.“You make a business of trying me, Luna.” He said, tone icy cold. “It’s either you know your place or your sweet pack would pay for it.”As scared as I was, I was tired. What exactly did I ever do wrong? What was my crime?I remained rooted to the ground when he fastened his fingers around my throat.“What was your plan—“A knock came on the door but Nathaniel ignored it. He tightened his grip, aiming to squash my windpipe. My eyes widened in fear, as I tried to speak.“You…” he spat. “You are a problem to me—““It’s the oracle,” Kaine called from outside.I’ve never been this terrified and relieved to see him at the same time. I was scared of what Nathaniel could do to him, but at the same time, I was glad he could save me. If only for this
Sorrel’s POVThe room was decorated in gold and red—every chair and table was adorned. High-ranking werewolves sat and chatted while the artist touched a key on his instruments. It was beautiful. Truly. But what transpired through this room was anything but pretty.“Remember, know your place,” Nathaniel said lowly. Tone as hard as a brick.“Yes, alpha.”He didn’t need to tell me, I wasn’t going to screw this up any further. As we made our way into the crowd, all eyes turned to us. I brandished my best sun-like smile, following Nathaniel. We sat at a table. Their Alpha pheromones filled the area, each competing to surpass the other.“Alpha Nathaniel,” they acknowledged, “Luna Sorrel.”I tilted my head as well, greeting them.“Tell us, Nathaniel, how did you secure such a beautiful wife?” Alpha Knox asked, smiling.“Through the moon goddess,” he replied flatly. Uninterested.“We have a deal with the issue at hand.” Nathaniel shifted to the edge of his seat, hands on the table.“Our all
Sorrel’s POV“We are done, Luna,” Poppy said, moving back.I rose to my feet, stared at my reflection, and smiled. “Thank you.”They bowed and walked out. I took the tonic to help me and downed it in one go. The bitter taste made me grimace.Nathaniel was waiting outside the door for me. With little effort, I swallowed the pain throbbing between my thighs and met him outside.“Luna.” He took my hand and locked arms with me. As I moved, the pain burned, peppery and hot. Whatever power he had was making it harder for me to heal. Either that or Nadia was weak as well.*Sorry* I told her, she was silent since it happened.*You are nice to everyone, but yourself, Sorrel*Her words made my eyes sting. *I’m sorry you are stuck with me**That’s not what I mean*I blinked rapidly to keep the tears away.*I know. I know*“….Luna.” The deep baritone of his voice jerked me from my head.Blinking, I lifted my eyes and saw the white wolves. Kaine and the rest of the Whiteness. They must have greete
Sorrel’s POVThe pack house was a mess as we tried to clean up. Blood filled the house. It was too much and too sudden that the oracle and a couple of white werewolves had to come down to the pack. They were doing the cleansing of the pack while we dragged the dead bodies out. I couldn’t keep the f
Sorrel’s povMy body was on fire. For two days after the rejection, it felt like I would combust into tiny pieces of flesh, but I didn’t and some part of me wished I’d do.Today I was accepting my fate.I was Luna to the Wolffang pack and I was married to Alpha Nathaniel whether I liked it or not.
Sorrel’s pov“Who’s your mate?“ Nathaniel asked the moment we were in our room. He was furious, ready to burn me to the ground with his stare. He was never going to love me, even after 6 months of courtship to sell this lie.“Answer me!” He barked and I flinched.“No one!” I blurted out. I don’t kn
Sorrel’s povNo…no…noI stumbled back, hands on the wall as I tried to find my way back to my fitting room. Noise hummed in my head and their moans floated at the back of my mind.*It’s normal. It’s okay after all this is all just formalities* I told myself repeatedly as I crept down the cold hallw
