Once their shopping was finished, their baskets were filled to the brim with roots, dried petals, and rare bark samples. Sana suggested they take the long way back to wander through parts of town Elaine hadn't seen yet. Elaine agreed eagerly, insisting on carrying the heaviest basket herself despite Sana's protests, and the two of them set off through Vaelmoor's quieter residential streets. This was away from the grand central district where the Council held its meetings.

Chapter 87Three days into their journey, no word had reached Vaelmoor regarding Lord Ashworn's whereabouts. This news didn’t surprise anyone because everyone was used to this sudden disappearance and reappearance. His tendency to vanish without explanation had become a routine over the years that his absence barely registered among the Council or the wider population.Lira, however, noticed something different this time. She had been keeping a loose track of Elaine's movements ever since the Trials. This was partly out of lingering resentment and partly out of genuine paranoia that another humiliation might be waiting around some corner. When Corren and Mira both failed to appear at their usual haunts for three consecutive days, and Elaine's presence vanished entirely from the market and training grounds, the pattern nagged at her. She couldn’t help but think something was happening in the dark. "Mother, have you noticed Elaine hasn't been seen anywhere in days?" Lira mentioned ove

Chapter 86The third day of the journey brought harsher terrain; they had to struggle their way up slopes and cross some rivers. Their conversation became lesser as exhaustion set in, though Mira still managed the occasional joke to lighten the mood."Remind me again why we didn't bring a map that actually shows elevation," she grumbled, wiping sweat from her brow."Would it have helped?" Corren asked, glancing at the sheer cliff face ahead of them."No. But I'd have complained less specifically."Kael led them along a narrow ledge, testing each foothold before allowing the others to follow. "Watch the loose rock to your left," he warned. His voice was sturdy even though danger lurked all around them. Elaine followed closely, noting every instruction. Corren equally kept a careful eye on Mira's footing. It was near midday when the ground gave way beneath Corren; the ledge crumbled without warning. He pitched sideways, as his fingers tried catching the rocky edge just before he would

Chapter 85In R City, the days following Vicky's return had been quite normal, though the undercurrent of tension never fully disappeared. Vicky went about her day in the household exactly as she had before; warm with Amara, affectionate with Ray, patient with Richard's lingering questions. Finally everyone in the Barnes household went back to normal seeing everything was fine. "You seem happy today," Ray observed one morning, watching her hum softly while preparing Amara's breakfast. “What’s the occasion?”"I've had time to think." Vicky glanced at him, offering a small smile. "I know it wasn't your fault. I believe you.""I still don't fully understand why you won't let me fire her." Ray's jaw tightened at the mere mention of Celeste."I have my reasons." Vicky's tone stayed light. But Ray just had that gut feeling that this was the beginning of something. "Trust me on this one.""I do trust you." He pulled her close, pressing a kiss to her temple. "I just don't understand it. I’m

Chapter 84The path toward Ravenspire Peak goes through dense forest for the first two days. The trees in the forest grew steadily taller and more twisted to the point that sunlight struggled to break through the thickening canopy. Conversation flowed easily at first, Mira filling silences with stories from her childhood training under her father and Corren occasionally adding dry commentary that made even Kael's mouth twitch with slight amusement which he quickly suppressed."My father used to say if you couldn't climb a tree in under a minute, you didn't deserve dinner that night," Mira said, laughing at the memory. "I went hungry more times than I'd like to admit.""Sounds brutal," Corren said."You have no idea." Mira shook her head and rolled her eyes. "The almighty Grandmaster Feng doesn't believe in gentle lessons.""At least your father taught you something useful," Elaine said quietly, a touch of wistfulness in her voice. "I'm still learning what mine was even like."The conv

Chapter 83Elaine found Master Wu in his study later that evening, she had a thought in her mind which she needed his approval first. But was it a thought? She had made up her mind."Master, I want to go find my father."Master Wu's expression shifted instantly, concern replacing the calm he usually wore. "Elaine, that journey isn't something to decide on impulse. Ravenspire Peak is dangerous beyond anything you've faced here. The terrain alone has claimed experienced travelers, and the creatures that roam those slopes don't discriminate between skilled fighters and fools. Let’s plan this well before making a decision.”"I have to at least try." Elaine looked at him steadily with strong determination. "He's the only family I have left in this land. I can't just sit here knowing he's out there, alone and for over two decades, mourning mine and mother’s death whiles im still alive.""I get you….but…you cannot go alone." Master Wu's voice carried a weight that left no room for argument.

Chapter 82A week passed, and Elaine didn't hear from Kael. She decided not to bother with him as well, and focused on getting to the truth behind the mystery of her mother's death. On this day, she had finally fixed the battery into the laptop and was navigating her way around it. After setting it to her taste and making sure it was powerful enough, she decided to send a coded message to Ray, to let him know she was fine and would return when the time was right. Her location wasn't disclosed, neither would it be traced should they search, of course she knew her way around gadgets. After sending the message, she decided to check her dark web account. She had to wait a minute to be able to access the messages because the poor computer almost crashed at the number of messages loading."Interesting. Seems a lot of people missed the miracle doctor." She smiled to herself and read through her messages. Majority of them were from people begging her to make more doses of the last medicines s
