“K… Kev…” I stuttered as another clot of blood sputtered from my mouth.

“Open the gate,” I heard him order and someone rushed to open the gate.

He entered gently, and I fidgeted gently as he covered the space between us by bending beside me.

“Y… you… you are…” I groaned and grabbed my stomach again.

“Alive? Yeah,” he grinned.

He picked up the document beside me and then groaned, “That is why you should not have acted like you are all that, come on! All I needed you for was your fucking inheritance!” he yelled and I closed my eyes shut.

Bastard.

Devil!

He came to me four years ago and I thought he was all I needed. My shining armor, I had thought.

But… it was all for this?

This was why he had been licking my foot for the past years. This was why he had never angered me and had done all I wanted without any question.

“But, you had to ruin it by getting pregnant! I had not been adding birth control pills to your water for the past three years just for you to carry a fucking baby all of a sudden! What the hell were you thinking?”

“W… what?”

All these while that I had been running helter-skelter for a baby… this man had been the cause for my infertility?

“You forgot you were just a muse in my bigger plan. Are you stupid?!”

“W… why? Why…? I didn’t… I didn’t even… do anything… to you,” I sobbed quietly, the blood not stopping at all.

“But that’s it. That’s where it all ends now. You just need to stamp this, and then rest. Forever.”

He grabbed my hand closer to myself, and I tried as hard as I could to resist.

“S… stop… please…”

God…

I cried profusely with all the strength I had left in me as he successfully pulled my hand to himself, and then pressed my thumb on the fingerprint ink.

Afterward, he pressed it on the document while I whimpered.

“Now, my darling wife,” he breathed out and then dropped his hand on my hair.

“You should rest now. You have tried enough,” he said, and after a while, he stood up.

As my vision gradually turned blurry, I watched him walk out of the cold cell that I lay in and then shook my head slowly as my body started to give in to the paralysis that was rushing through me.

“P…please…” my eyes closed for a second and I opened them to look at him as he and Katherine laughed.

“Sorry bestie!” She laughed out loud again and I closed my eyes again.

“Yes sir,” I heard Kevin say, and I squinted my eyes open again.

“Yeah, it’s all executed now.”

“Yes, trust me!” He added with a laugh.

Who was he talking to?

I wondered as my eyes involuntarily closed again.

I had no strength to even lift a finger again and all I did was lay there, waiting for death to arrive and take me away.

But, why?

Why should I die?

I am a good person, why would this happen to me?

God…

“God, please…”

I mumbled with the final strength in me.

“Please… I… I don’t… want to die…’’ I stuttered as blood sputtered from my mouth again.

As my organs were on fire, and as if my stomach was going to rip apart, I could no longer move my mouth and all I just wished for was that the big guy up there would have mercy on me.

“Have a nice trip back to hell!” I heard Kevin’s already distant voice and their retreating footsteps.

And at that moment, I lay in acceptance, fully accepting the death that knocked at my door.

~~~~~
“Ms. Henderson!”
I gasped heavily as I felt a poke on my shoulder and then coughed out.
“Are you okay?” she asked me.
I grabbed my stomach with one hand and then dropped the other on my chest, breathing heavily.
“Do you need anything? Water?” she asked in a panicked tone.
“W… where am I?” I gasped as I looked around me.
This was…
“Mr. Davis law firm. Are you okay?” she answered as she dropped her hand on my shoulder.
I pushed her hand away and then looked around. I was truly at his law firm.
“What is happening?” I asked rather loudly, still confused.
“Mr. Davis will see you now,” she answered.
Mr. Davis… the lawyer?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
She answered with confusion evident in her face.
I swallowed the lump in my throat, and scurried away, panting.
What was going on?
I remember…
I remember what had just happened…
Just a moment ago, I was lying on that cold floor.
I still remember the feeling on the cold floor and the burn in my organs.
I still remember their faces in my head.
Their snickers. Contempt. Ridicule.
“I have been expecting you, Ms. Henderson!”
The voice of Mr. Davis rang into my ears as I entered the room fully and I gasped again.
“I should have come to you instead. I am sorry for making you come all the way here,” he said as I drew my brows together.
Why was I feeling deja vu?
I could swear all of this has happened before.
Have I truly died?
Is this the moment where they call ‘Your whole life flashing before your eyes right before you die.’?
“Come have a sit,” he ushered me in, and then he said again after I had settled down.
“Coffee or tea?” he asked and then instantly walked to the coffee machine.
At that moment, I raised a brow and then stared at the glass cup that was by his elbow.
“Fall…”
And in an instant, his back hand hit the cup and it fell, and then shattered to the ground.
“Fuck!” I screamed and jumped out of the chair.
“Ms. Lyra, it’s just a cup!” he exclaimed.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck! It fell!” I cried out and looked and looked around.
“What is today’s date?” I asked, spiraling out of control by looking around.
“Ms. Lyra, are you okay?”
“Fuck, what is the date?!”
This was too accurate to be just deja vu.
“Fifth of May, 2025,” he answered.
“M… may? 2025?” I shook my head in disbelief and then looked around to confirm my doubt.
If my memory is correct, this was just a week before my wedding with Kevin and I was supposed to go to the fitting shop right after I met with the lawyer.
“N… no way…” I kept looking around and I knew I was coming off as crazy to the man who looked at me.
And then my eyes dropped on the calendar that hung on the wall.
It was indeed the year 2025!
This was three years before everything that had just flashed through my eyes!
I had… traveled back in time?!
    Lyra shook her leg rather vigorously as she looked out of the window from her room and then turned to look at the clock again.It was almost ten. In the night, and Mason hadn’t gotten home yet.She hadn’t called him, and he hadn’t called either and she could not help but bite her finger, contemplating if she should take away her pride and call him.After a while of waiting by the window, Lyra settled in her bed, covered herself with the duvet, and then closed her eyes, hoping the night would go by fast and by the next morning, he would be at home already.Lyra didn’t know how long she had laid in the bed, and if she had even dozed off a little before she heard the movement in the hallway outside her room and she jumped out of the bed, breathing heavily.She pushed her door open, like she was going to knock it down, and then smiled unconsciously.“Mason!”The man stood by his door, opening the door. He turned to look at the woman who jumped out of her room in her flimsy, almost see-thr
    Lyra could swear that she had stayed in the same spot Mason had left her for over ten minutes till she finally collected herself and then rushed out of his room, like she could still catch up with him.What was he mad about?Why would he assume he was still in love with Kevin?Not especially when he knew almost everything he had done to her.How could he?Was she too extreme out there?She only asked him to go back in because she knew he was overly pissed back then and could hurt Kevin.She was not protecting Kevin, of course. Why would she?Lyra picked up her phone as she returned to her room and then put a call through to him and he picked up.“Yes?”“Where are you going?”“I’ll be at Kirill. Don’t worry about me,” he said and then dropped the call.“Really?!” She widened her eyes and then scoffed.‘He is really mad about this?!’Not knowing what to do any longer, Lyra lay on her bed and then closed her eyes.~~~Mason rested his chin on his fist as his friend burst into laughter an
    “It’s not funny!” He breathed out, standing upright.“No, it is. You just hissed at me,” she wheeled.Mason looked away, jaw tightened. “You bring out the worst in me.”“Lucky me,” she said, wiping a tear from her eye. “You’re kind of adorable when you’re upset.”“Whoa, I never thought I would be hearing that from you,” he shook his head, taking a step closer to her again.At that moment, a knock came on the door and then Lyra spoke up, telling whoever it was to come in.It was the butler and a soft smile spread across her lips, “Mr. Jang.”“There is someone outside to see you,” he announced, sparing Mason a glance.“Me? Who?”“Kevin.”Mason swallowed in distaste as he heard and then shook his head.“No matter how much the security has forced him away, he keeps returning. He demanded to see you or he would go to the public with everything he has against you,” he said.“Kevin said that?” Lyra raised her brows, wondering what it was that the man could probably have against her.“Yes.     Finally, Mason and Lyra arrived home.It was noon, and without saying, they both agreed to go home, leaving the work behind for the day.Ascending the stairs, Mason said behind her, “Should I stop by your room after I freshen up?”“Will I seem like a bad person if I say no?”“Princess, you’re a bad person. Don’t think too far,” he said and they both laughed.She had missed the way he called her princess even though she used to hate it so much.“I don’t like you one bit,” she hissed, stopping in front of her door.“I know, you always tell me.”Watching her enter her room, a warm smile spread across Mason’s face and he shook his head.Today, he had seen another version of Lyra.One that he really didn’t know existed.The way she held him literally all day meant so much to him.Coming from her when she really hated it whenever he held her, it warmed his heart and even without saying, he knew he might have a bit of space in her heart after all.The way she slowly walked him through everyt
    “Are you okay?” Lyra asked Mason for the umpteenth time as they stepped outside the gate.“Sure,” he forced a smile and then shook his head as he found his friend across his street, waving his hands at them.“He is still here,” Lyra smiled.“And Kiara!” She added in excitement as the front door opened and Kiara stepped out.“I had a guess she would be here,” Mason said as they crossed the street.“What happened? You took so long,” Kirill covered the space between them while Lyra rushed to hug Kiara who spread her arms wide.“Right?” Mason answered, resting by the car, while he looked back at the gate of the old mansion.“Did you see her off properly?”“I bet she is more mad at me now. We fought in the room while she was there instead,” he hissed, scratching his head.“What happened again? Meanwhile…“I am so proud of you!” Kiara groaned as she patted Lyra’s back.“You should’ve seen me there,” Lyra said, grinning proudly. “I stood tall. I didn’t flinch or cower—well… maybe just a li
    Everyone in the room went still. Like they were shocked by his outburst.But then, Ryan’s brows furrowed. “What are you talking about?”“She didn’t die naturally,” Mason said. “You all know it. She was fine yesternight. Too fine to just drop dead the next morning!”His grandfather’s eyes raised, his lips twitching upward. “So, are you accusing someone here?”“I don’t need to accuse anyone,” Mason said, jaw clenched. “But I’m not going to let my mother be reduced to ashes before I find out the truth.”Lyra’s breath caught as she watched him so sure, so fierce in his grief. She reached for his hand, but he didn’t even glance at her.Lorenzo laughed loudly and then clasped his hands together “You were the one who wouldn’t even speak to her last night. No, for decades, you kept your distance from her and now you want to act like the grieving son?”Mason didn’t flinch. “Yes. And I’ll grieve properly once I know she didn’t die with questions in her throat.”“Questions in her throat? What q
