BONUS CHAPTER

***BORIN'S POV***

The heavy oak doors click shut, cutting off the lingering scent of vintage grape wine and the sharp, electrifying pull of lightning and ozone that always accompanies Mei Chatteris.

The silence lasts for all of two seconds before the boardroom completely explodes.

"She is entirely out of line!" Gavin barks, slamming his fist onto the polished wood.

"She insulted the Shadowcrest lineage!" the red-haired elder—Rowe—snarls, his face flushing to match his hair. His brows crease, forming deep lines on his forehead.

"Walking out of a negotiation? Threatening the Alpha? She thinks her human millions give her the right to treat us like corporate underlings." He continues and I lean back into my seat as I tap my pen rhythmically on the wood surface.

"She’s too arrogant," Mo chimes in, shaking his head. His curls wriggling slightly as they follow his movements. "A lone wolf who has spent too much time playing god in the human world. We should force her hand. Let her—"

I let out a low, dry chuckle, leaning even more into my leather seat. My hands crossed as my gaze sweeps the room.

The entire room goes dead silent.

The elders freeze, their eyes darting toward me, trying to read the heavy, impenetrable mask I always keep wrapped around my expressions.

A slow smile curls up my lips.

"You all understand nothing," I say, my voice velvety and smooth, cutting through the leftover tension in the air like a blade through silk. "She refused because she has already accepted."

The elders exchange confused, blank glances.

Làpéi frowns, shifting the stack of analytics in his hands. "Alpha? With all due respect, she practically threatened to strip us of our terms before she walked out."

"Exactly," I say, tilting my head as I reach for my pen. "Mei Chatteris is an Alpha who values control above everything else in this world. If she had agreed to the union immediately, out of fear for the Iron Claws, I would have lost all respect for her. It would have meant she was weak. Easily broken under duress."

Tap. Tap. Tap.

"But she didn't bow. Instead, she demanded the right to dictate her own terms. She didn't reject the marriage, she rejected the idea of being a prize traded to satisfy you lot. She is already considering the union. She just needs to ensure she walks into it holding the leash."

The red-haired elder opens his mouth to protest, but I drop my masking aura for a fraction of a second, letting a crushing weight of raw pressure flood the room.

He immediately whimpers, his head bowing.

"And if you ever bring up the Stormfang pack in her presence again," I murmur, my gray eyes narrowing on him, "I will feed you to the Iron Claws myself. Am I understood?" I lean forward, glaring into his soul.

He nods quickly, swallowing hard.

I look down at the black leather-bound notebook resting in front of me. I slide it closer and flip it open, staring at the pages I’ve been filling for the last two hours.

The elders must think I’ve been taking rigorous business notes on trade routes and revenue deficits.

Instead, my pen has tracked a completely different set of data.

Mei Chatteris:

• Picks at her fingers when anxious.

• Protects her omega best friend before herself.

• Doesn't drink heavily (stubbornly prefers vintage grape).

• Never lies (her posture is too rigid for deceit).

• Values leverage over money.

• Absolutely hates being cornered.

• Beautiful when angry.

I stare at the last line for a beat, a quiet, predatory fascination warming my chest. I quickly brush it off as I relax into my leather seat.

The chair creaks louder than anticipated as it echoes through the boardroom.

She thinks she cornered me with her parting speech.

She thinks she has time to simulate her options. But feral wolves don't wait for board meetings, and I already know exactly how the Iron Claws operate.

She'll be back. Closer than she thinks.

I snap the notebook shut with a decisive click and slide it into my breast pocket.

"Prepare the formal alliance proposal," I command, standing up and smoothing down my suit, as I reach for the buttons. "We are going to give the lady exactly what she wants." My fingers fumble with the suit and I fix in the last button.

"We'll make her belive she's doing this on her terms."

CHAPTER TEN***MEI'S POV*** The sound of moans fill the air as soon as I push past the door of the brothel. I crinkle my nose a bit as the scent of sex and arousal fill my nostrils. Curtis looks very pleased beside me as his hazel eyes scamper around in search of what he likes to call a 'worthy fuck'.He doesn't even make an attempt to conceal his excitement as it's very evident in his scent. He once told me letting off scents and pheromones, attracted a vast variety of fucks. I didn't know that because I met my mate earlier than most werewolves and now, I'm practically immune to pheromones of whoever isn't my mate. If anything, I find it annoying—the scent of others— yet I wish it was the exact opposite. Being immune is a stupid punishment that comes with this stupid bond. "I'll be right back. You need to eat something." Curtis says, as he gives me the 'I told you to eat a while back but you don't listen' look as my stomach roils again. I hadn't even realised it was now obvi

CHAPTER NINE *** NOLAKAI'S POV *** TEN YEARS AGO Ozone. Lavender. Mine. The scent filled my nostrils almost immediately, my gaze scanning the entire park to find where the delicious scent was coming from. Ozone. Closer. Lavender. Closer. The scent driving me mad with each passing second, my legs moving purely out of instinct, pushing past whoever stood in my way till finally, I saw her, standing a few feet apart. Time slowed, and the world faded till it was just both of us. She seemed to have been searching for me too as she came to a halt when our eyes met. I stared at her frozen in place, unsure of what to do. I'd always wondered how it would feel to meet my mate, but nothing really compared. She was fucking beautiful. Her silver hair catching in the light, the white sundress she was wearing, a complementary contrast to her hair. The white sundress, further accentuating her tanned skin. Mmm. Just how I like it. My wolf purred, a deep rumble erupting from within my c

CHAPTER EIGHT *** MEI'S POV *** "Oh shit. I'm so sorry." A feminine voice says as Borin and I turn to see the cause of the ruckus. The lady, frozen at the both of us like she's seen ghosts. "Oh my God, Miss. Chatteris, it's really you....in flesh and blood." The lady says as her eyes dart between Borin and I. I fight the urge to roll my eyes as I stare right back at her, my eyes portraying no emotion. Borin looks at her too—observing as she fiddles with her shirt, still frozen in place.I've been recognised, and it'll only take a few minutes before paparazzi flood this place if she decides to be a blabbermouth. One quiet evening. I just needed one quiet evening."Oh my God Talia. Just one task, one task I asked you to take care of." A man says, immediately he comes into the room. He glares at her before approaching our table. "I am so sorry for the inconvenience. I had to use the bathroom and I thought she'd be able to handle it." He says, apologies written all over his face.

CHAPTER SEVEN ***MEI'S POV*** The silver fork in my hand suddenly feels heavy enough to snap.I stare at Borin across the empty restaurant, my heart executing a slow, violent thud against my ribs. The heavy, smug satisfaction radiating off his perfectly tailored frame is practically suffocating.Jerk.I refuse the urge to roll my eyes as I force my rigid posture to relax by a fraction of a millimeter, refusing to give him the satisfaction of seeing me sweat. "I beg your pardon?" I say, my voice dangerously smooth, slicing through the quiet space of Chavron."You heard me, Miss Chatteris," Borin says, leaning back into his leather seat with that insufferable, effortless grace. "An Alpha of your standing living in a separate downtown hotel while her supposed betrothed resides in the Shadowcrest estate screams 'sham contract' to the media. And worse, it tells the Iron Claws exactly where to find a soft target.""I am nobody's soft target, Mr. Holloway," I snap, my eyes n

CHAPTER SIX ***BORIN'S POV*** I let out a breathy sighs as I enter my bedroom. The room is quiet and cold. Just how I like it. I must've left the air conditioning switched on before leaving for my office a few rooms away. I decided to work from home today. Emily and I, spending Hours reviewing costs, liabilities and expenses. I sigh as I plop down on my bed, spreading my arms and legs as wide as they can go. Finally. It's been a long day and I'd like to have some alone time but that's impossible because Chatteris thought it would be fun to chat about business over dinner. I pinch the skin between my brows and force myself to sit up on the bed. As much as I don't appreciate my evenings being interrupted, I can make an exception for Chatteris. I have to. My phone pings with a m

BONUS CHAPTER ***BORIN'S POV**** The notification on my private phone chimes at exactly 11 : 42 PM. It must be important for it to be on my private phone. I exhale deeply as I narrow my eyes to go over the documents detailing the expenses of transport for one of my hubs at Perth. It's a lot. And we're running out of time.I bring my head even closer to the laptop on my desk to read the sub headings of this document. Why are the letters so small? My doctor has advised to take my meds more often or at least wear glasses and I've refused every single time. Werewolves are supposed to have exceptional eyesight and it is a taboo for especially an alpha to wear glasses. Although, it's hard to maintain such eyesight as a Veil. Shadowcrests have a long history of being more susceptible to blindness. Masking comes at a price.I don't look at the message immediately, instead, I reach for the glass of whiskey beside me. I swirl the amber liquid, watching the ice cube melt against
