35. PUNCHING BAG

Nightfall fell and the king still had not pulled from his state of unconsciousness. I felt as if l was losing my mind, the only thing keeping me sane just his moving chest.

I lay on his back, breathing him in and out. My lips pressed on his cool skin now and again. The room was dark, the windows having been opened with the growing crescent in the sky, the curtain dancing to the wind’s tune.

The food was still untouched, lunch having been taken away. The ladies came back when dinner hit, bringing a few other dishes for the king and I. They peaked and asked how he was doing and all I could do was fake a smile and tell them he would wake up soon.

The door suddenly opened, pulling me from my thoughts, my head picking up but not enough to see who had entered.

I heard footsteps, leading to me sitting on the king to fully turn and see the intruder. I already had a good idea for there was no one else who would walk in with such confidence when the king was
