LOGINChapter 03.
A NEW REVELATION. Clary's POV. “Look, I don't understand what you're trying to say.” I said, pacing back and forth in short spans before finally coming to a stop. “What do you mean by they knew? What did they know? And who are we talking about here?” “The red moon only appears once every three months.” he said, looking me in the eyes. “However, a year was enough time for Eric to become the alpha. The previous alpha is dead.” “Alright, but you still aren't making any sense.” I said, shaking my head. “If he is the alpha now, then that's because he was the acting-alpha before I was sent away. So, it is only right that he is the alpha now.” If anything, I didn't know why he was taking too long to talk. I mean, if he had something to say, then why not say it already? I don't want to believe that he travelled or better still, lived in hiding for the past five years only to come here without anything to say. If he didn't have anything to do, then I could just offer him a place to pass the night. However, for someone like me who's got a lot of things to think of, I don't think talking about what happened in the pack is the best way I want to spend my night. “Eric isn't supposed to be the alpha.” he said, shaking his head. “I know it's hard to believe, but he's not the right person to lead the pack.” “Ok, why are you telling me this?” I asked, with a shrug of my shoulder. “If he isn't the right person to lead the pack, then they should find the right person to do so. How's that any of my concern? I'm about to be thrown out of this place by the weekend, I've got a test tomorrow and I haven't even read a thing yet. So, if they want to find the right person to lead the pack, then they should. I mean, they have you or had you. Anyway, it shouldn't be hard.” “You don't seem to understand.” “Because you're making it difficult for me to understand.” I said, my voice almost rising to a scream. “I mean, you've been talking for the past twenty minutes and I still don't have any idea where this conversation is heading to, and you want me to sit here with you. To talk about what exactly? A pack that sent me out here to die? No, I'm sorry. I've got other things to do.” I righted myself from the couch and turned to leave. However, I wasn't heading to my room to sleep, but to read. If anything, I'd been warned not to fail that particular course. And if it happens that I do, then it's over. I'd have to kiss my hopes of graduating with an 'A' goodbye, which I didn't want and wasn't ready to do. “There was a prophecy.” he said, just as I was about to take a step from where I stood. “Eric and the elders know about it. However, they've decided to keep it a secret.” “What prophecy?” I asked, turning to face him with a raised brow. “And why have they chosen to keep it a secret?” “There was a curse placed on the pack centuries ago.” he said, exhaling softly as if it was an information he wasn't meant to disclose. “Alright, I know about it.” I said, angling my body towards him as I offered my attention. “However, isn't that just a mere legend?” “No, it's not.” he said, righting himself from the couch. “We weren't made to live like this, Clary; that curse stops us from transforming on a full moon. However, it's that period of time when we're supposed to tap into our full power.” “Alright.” I said, folding my arms across my chest as I shifted my body weight to one foot. “I still don't understand how this has to do with me.” “The prophecy says that the one who possesses the black blood will break the curse.” he said, his voice soft, yet certain. “However, Eric doesn't have the black blood.” “Then you all should find the whoever has the black blood to break the curse.” I said, seeing no reason why he made it sound like a big deal. “It is not difficult you know? Find whoever has the black blood and let them break the curse. Simple!” “Don't you get it?” he asked, taking a step towards me. “Why do you think I'm here?” “That's exactly what I've been planning to—” The rest of the words died in my throat as a thought struck me like a bolt of lightning. “No. There's no way that's possible.” I said, shaking my head as I blinked my eyes rapidly in confusion. “You don't think I have the black blood, do you?” “Well, there's only one way to know.” he said, with a shrug of his shoulder. “Aren't you curious?” “Look, I know you're desperate to save the pack. But, it doesn't make any sense.” I said, shaking my head. “I think you've got the wrong person.” “Aren't you concerned about your family?” he asked, staring into my eyes as he took another step toward me. “The red moon is the day after tomorrow. Should Eric perform that ritual, then it's going to get us all killed.” “Are you saying that now so I will go back with you?” I asked, narrowing my gaze at the words. “If that's what you're trying to do, then it's not going to be possible. I'm not going back to that pack that threw me out like I meant nothing.” “I think we should first confirm if you have the blood or not.” he said, picking up the knife from the table. “That should be able to convince you that I'm right.” “And what if you're wrong?” I asked, dropping my gaze to the knife in his grip. “Then I'll leave and never return.” he said, with an assuring nod of his head. “You have my word. However, if it turns out that I'm right, then I'll need you to think about returning to the pack.” “Alright then, let's see.” I said, holding out a hand towards him. “Don't say that I didn't tell you.” “Let's see then.” he said, holding my hand. “This is going to hurt.” He didn't have to tell me that it would hurt. All I wanted was for him to get it over with and leave. Meanwhile, as he cut my skin with the blade, I turned my face away. “You can take a look now.” he said, letting go of my hand. I guess he realized that he was wrong after all. I turned and glanced at my hand. However, my skin crawled as I saw a black substance dripping from my hand. “No, this isn't real.” I said, lifting my gaze to him. “What have you done to me?” “I have only proven that you were wrong.” he said, dropping the knife on the table. “I am sure you know the truth now. Think about it.” “There is nothing to think about.” I said, with an edge to my voice. “You may be right, but this doesn't change anything. I'm not returning to that pack.” “Then we all are going to die.” he said, with ice in his voice. “Including you.”Chapter 94.STUCK IN BETWEEN.Clary's POV.“Greg! Greg, wait!” I quickened my pace, trying to catch up with him. “Greg, please wait. We can talk about this. It's not what you think.” He heard me calling out to him, and I was sure of it because he turned back a few times. Or perhaps, he was just trying to measure the distance between us to know if he had to walk faster or not. If that was the case, then he wasn't helping matters because leaving didn't seem like a good idea. Besides, where to? He was in pains. My best guess was that he was heading to the infirmary. But then, going back there would only raise the doctor's curiosity. “Greg?” I called, avoiding the crowd of people coming my way. “Can you just stop and let's talk about this, please.” He stopped, and turned back to me. I sighed, and walked up to him.“Look, I know how you feel right now.” I said, in a soft voice. “However, where are you going to?” “You know how I feel right now?” he asked, staring at his hand. “You hav
Chapter 93.A BROKEN HEART. Clary's POV.“Greg!” I called, cupping my mouth with both hands. “Greg!” However, he had gone too far to hear me. Perhaps, even if he did, he didn't bother to answer to me. I could understand how he felt, but then waiting would have been the best option. Don't give me that look. I didn't mean to lie to him, and I wouldn't have thought of doing that, but I had no choice. That was the only way to buy Mrs Johnson some time, and perhaps alert her of the situation so she would know how to go about it. Meanwhile, I knew that I just couldn't stand there doing nothing, or expecting him to change his mind, and return to me. With that thought, I began to walk towards Mrs Johnson's office. As I got close to her office, I noticed that the door was opened. I quickened my pace. But as I got in, I found Greg alone.Standing right behind him, I clutched my chest with a hand and heaved a sigh of relief. Things would have gone from bad to worse if he'd found his mother
Chapter 92.SHEDDING OFF THE PAST.Clary's POV.I pulled Greg into a corner.“What in the world happened to you.” I asked, keeping my voice down. “Why is your hand swollen?”“I have no idea either.” he said, looking more confused than he sounded. “I-I just woke up, and found it like this.” “You just woke up and found it like this?” I asked, dropping my gaze to the hand. “How is that even possible? I mean, it doesn't make any sense.” “Did you fall? Or perhaps…” “It is nothing like that, Clary.” he said, speaking through his teeth. “I am not a kid. If something happens to me, then I will know it. However, this?” He sighed, glancing at the hand.“This just doesn't make any sense to me.” he added, shaking his head. “It hurts so much. It just feels like whatever has been holding it together, has fallen apart. The pain is twice what I felt when it was broken by that… ugh!” He made the sound in his throat, and formed his hand into a fist. “So, you're trying to say that you woke up and
Chapter 91.IT'S EASIER SAID THAN DONE.Clary's POV.Yeah. I get it. She needs my help, and I need hers too. But let's be honest here, neither of us can take out Eric if push comes to shove. We'd literally be walking into our own graves if we decide to get, no, steal that book from him. Without her magic, we're as good as dead. Besides, I've got just one more day left, if I decide to go with her and cause a distraction, he would figure it out. If anything, he would be expecting that I brought Reggie's spell book with me. But if he realizes that I didn't bring it with me, then he would learn that it was just a scheme to keep him distracted.“Uhm,” I said, rubbing the base of my neck. “I really don't know what to say about this. I just have this weird feeling that things might go, wrong.” I shrugged my shoulder.“All you have to say right now is yes.” she said, nodding her head as she looked into my eyes. “If I decide to do it alone, I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the book mysel
Chapter 90.A SUICIDE MISSION.Clary's POV.For a minute, or perhaps, two, the office was dead quiet. It didn't make any sense that there was something wrong with her magic. There were only a few hours between last night, and this morning, but in that space, something had affected her magic? “I don't understand.” I said, shaking my head. “You were doing just fine. Well, fine until you collapsed on the floor. But Greg mentioned that you were okay after he drove me home last night.” “Yes, I was. Or perhaps, I thought that I was.” she said, with a shrug of her shoulder. “But then, the dizziness just wouldn't stop. So, I tried to uhm,” She sighed.“I tried to use my magic, and that was when I realized that there was something wrong with it.” she added. “I have just been trying to figure out what must have gone wrong, but no matter how hard I think, nothing comes to mind.” “Does Greg know about this?” I asked, narrowing my gaze. “Have you told him yet?” “No, I can't do that.” she said
Chapter 89.TIME IS THE ENEMY.Clary's POV.“Mrs Johnson, are you in?” I knocked on the door of her office. “Mrs Johnson?” I'd been saying those words for the past ten minutes, and also knocking on the door. But, there'd been no response so far. I sighed. Greg clearly said that she was doing fine last night, what could have happened? I dropped my gaze and stared at the doorknob. It did seem like the only way, but I didn't want to go in unannounced, that was the more reason why I'd been knocking on the door for so long. However, it seemed like I would just have to.In the meantime, I gripped the knob, and turned it open. I walked into her office, and swept my eyes all over the place, but she wasn't in. Turning my head to the side, I noticed an open book on her desk. It seemed like it was something important. Perhaps, time didn't permit her to go through it all else she wouldn't have left it open that way. That particular page must have meant something, or contained some kind of info
