CHAPTER ONE — LIFE ISN'T FAIR.

Chapter 01.LIFE ISN'T FAIR.Clary's POV.“Clary? Are you in?” — a knock came at the door. “Open the door, I need to see you right now.” I exhaled sharply and ran a jerky hand through my hair. I'd barely sat down with my book to read. Even if it was just a few lines, I knew that I had to memorize something else I would end up with an 'F' in the test tomorrow just like I did some weeks back. Nonetheless, I knew that I couldn't keep her waiting. So, I righted myself from the chair which I tucked it into the table and closed my book. Then I proceeded towards the door.“Clary? Are you—” I opened the door just as she was about to knock again.“Good evening, Mrs Williams.” I said, with a brief smile on my lips as I stepped out of my room and closed the door behind me. “I am sorry, I didn't hear you earlier. However, is there a problem?” “Are you kidding me right now?” she asked, with an edge to her voice. “You promised to pay up the balance last week. However, you didn't, and you're ask

CHAPTER TWO — RETURN OF AN OLD FRIEND.

Chapter 02.RETURN OF AN OLD FRIEND.Clary's POV.Pushing the door open, I walked into my room, flicked the switch on the wall with a finger as I put on the light, then I shuffled some steps towards the couch across the room and then settled on it. Placing my head on the headrest of the couch, I glanced at the ceiling for a moment as tears trickled down the length of my face. Thinking that I worked so hard with hopes of raising some money to pay Mrs Williams for the rent only to be disappointed in the end made it hurt the more. Nonetheless, I knew that there was nothing I could do about it. Although, he was right: if I wanted to remain a decent girl then I shouldn't have gone there to work in the first place. However, If I'd decided quit when Russell gave me the option to, then I would only have myself to blame in the end. If anything, I only had one more year before completing my education and that meant one more year to stay there.“One more year wouldn't hurt, Clary.” I said, m

CHAPTER THREE — A NEW REVELATION.

Chapter 03.A NEW REVELATION.Clary's POV.“Look, I don't understand what you're trying to say.” I said, pacing back and forth in short spans before finally coming to a stop. “What do you mean by they knew? What did they know? And who are we talking about here?” “The red moon only appears once every three months.” he said, looking me in the eyes. “However, a year was enough time for Eric to become the alpha. The previous alpha is dead.”“Alright, but you still aren't making any sense.” I said, shaking my head. “If he is the alpha now, then that's because he was the acting-alpha before I was sent away. So, it is only right that he is the alpha now.” If anything, I didn't know why he was taking too long to talk. I mean, if he had something to say, then why not say it already? I don't want to believe that he travelled or better still, lived in hiding for the past five years only to come here without anything to say. If he didn't have anything to do, then I could just offer him a place

CHAPTER FOUR — A BAD DAY.

Chapter 04.A BAD DAY.Clary's POV.“Clary? Clary!”I flinched, my pen escaping my grip as I returned to the moment.“What are you doing?” Gracie asked, speaking through her teeth as she glanced over her shoulder. “You haven't written a thing yet. What were you thinking about?” I glanced at the answer sheet on my desk and realized that it was as blank as my mind. Exhaling sharply, I scrubbed a hand over my face. I could have sworn that I only glanced at my wrist for a moment. Or so I thought. However, the thought that I'd some kind of black blood all the while and no one told me anything about it just didn't make any sense.Besides, why couldn't I have figured it on my own? I mean, there should have been situations that would have helped me realize this sooner. But then again, it was rather strange that I couldn't recall any? Nonetheless, the foot of my chair scraped the tiled floor as I pushed it back in an attempt to pick up my pen. However, as I lowered myself and extended a han

CHAPTER FIVE — PAYBACK TIME.

Chapter 05.PAYBACK TIME.Clary's POV.“Hey,” Katie called, the moment she noticed me standing at a distance. However, I'd been standing there for longer than she thought. When I got in she was attending to a few customers. Besides, she was actually heading towards the bar deck with a tray in her grip. Perhaps to get some more liquor for the customers before she eventually found me.“What are you doing here so early?” she asked, with a tinge of curiosity in her voice. “I mean, it's not 6pm yet. So what are you doing here?” It wasn't as if I couldn't hear her speak. However, I didn't come to talk to her. So rather than giving her a response, I kept sweeping my eyes all over the place. As if she noticed that something was wrong, she took a step closer to me. It felt like she was about to whisper some secrets to me and would appreciate it if it stayed between us.“You didn't come here to work, did you?” she asked, in a low voice as she pushed a strand of hair behind her ear. “I've com

CHAPTER SIX — THE ENDGAME.

Chapter 06.THE ENDGAME.Clary's POV.As I stood upright and turned back to face the people behind me, I noticed that some of them turned their faces away from me. But I cared less if they saw what I did or not. All that mattered was that I'd given him a taste of his own medicine for squeezing my butt the previous day. Actually, I wanted to return to clear his table because for all I cared, he was done drinking. However, as I attempted to take a step from where I stood, I heard the sound of sirens wailing from a distance.“Of course, one of you must have called the cops.” I said, muttering the words under my breath as I swept my eyes all over the place.I wasn't looking for the person who must have called the cops. If anything, he only did that out of fear and concern that I might eventually hurt the man beyond what I did. And trust me, I don't blame whoever it was.Nonetheless, I spotted a man sitting close to the window. It was as if he was trying to look in my direction, but each

CHAPTER SEVEN — WHAT IF?

Chapter 07.WHAT IF?Clary's POV.“Hey, what took you so long?” Reggie asked, knotting the lace of his boots as I stepped in. “I was worried. Actually, I was thinking of—”“Coming to find me?” I asked, with an edge to my voice as I walked straight towards my room. “That wouldn't have been necessary; I'm here now. So, we can prepare ourselves to leave.” “Hey, did something happen back there?” he asked, with a tinge of curiosity in his voice as he righted himself from the couch. “Are you alright?” I guess he noticed the tone of my voice. Although, I'd been trying to sound like myself since I left Russell's bar, but it just felt like trying to walk on water — totally impossible. The more I tried to feel better, the worse I felt. Perhaps, if he hadn't brought my father into the conversation then I might have had a chance of really pulling myself together. However, he just wouldn't listen. Talking about my father raising me well, really? If I wasn't raised well, did he think that I woul

CHAPTER EIGHT — A MISUNDERSTANDING.

Chapter 08.A MISUNDERSTANDING.Clary's POV.“It's not what you think, Mrs Williams.” I said, shaking my head. “You are getting it all wrong.” “Oh, really?” she said, narrowing her gaze at the words. “What am I getting wrong here? Or have I suddenly gone blind that I don't know what's going on right now? You're leaving, Clary. And that's it. You just shut the door and the young man standing beside the car over there has just put your bag in the trunk of the car. So, what exactly am I getting wrong.” “There's a situation right now.” I said, without an idea of how to help her understand what was going on. “However, that's all I can say to you right now. You need to understand me, Mrs Williams. I'm not trying to run away.” “But that's exactly what it seems like you're trying to do right now.” she said, her voice rising to a scream. “Else why would you tell me you would pay up your rent by Saturday. You knew that it wasn't possible. All you wanted was for me to leave so that you can ru

CHAPTER NINE — FEELING LOST.

Chapter 09.FEELING LOST.Clary's POV.Staring out through the window and watching the trees go behind, a tear rolled down the side of my cheek. It's been like that since I got into the car. No matter how hard I tried to make myself feel a bit better, it just felt like a waste of time. I mean, even if I was fortunate enough to return the following morning, I would have to face the reality that I'd go find a new job. Although it was quite painful because I knew what I went through before I got the job at Russell's bar. However, one thing was certain: I couldn't continue working there anymore. Staying there would only mean that I have to abide by his rules which I wasn't prepared to do. Besides, why should I remain in a place where I keep getting harassed and my boss who's in the best position to protect me does nothing about it? “Hey, are you alright?” Reggie asked, his voice cut through my thoughts like a whip. “You haven't said anything since we left your house.” “Does it look li

CHAPTER TEN — FAITH AND FEAR.

Chapter 10.FAITH AND FEAR.Clary's POV.“Where are we going?” I asked, the sound of dead leaves crumpling under my boots as I followed behind Reggie. “We have been walking for the past ten minutes, yet it doesn't seem like we've made any progress.” “Just a little more.” he paused, turning back to face me. “We will soon arrive.” “Alright then, just a little more.” I said, exhaling sharply as I swept my eyes all over the place. “I just hope we don't eventually lose our way.” “Have some faith; we won't.” he said, with a shrug of his shoulder. “I know this woods like the back of my palms because I've been here longer than you think.” “Well, it doesn't matter. The sun's down; we need to find some place to rest.” I said, watching my steps. “We don't know what could be out there. The last thing I would want is to leave my home only to end up dead here.” “No one is going to end up dead, Clary.” he paused, and turned to face me again as he shook his head. “Well, at least not today.” “Mo
