I stood at the bar, still trying to process the fact that I'd actually asked a complete stranger to be my fake boyfriend.

Henry looked at me for a moment, then leaned casually against the counter.

“Fake boyfriend?” he said. “Princesa, I charge two hundred an hour for that.”

I blinked.

“Two hundred?”

Henry's mouth curved into a teasing smile.

“You got that kind of cash, princesa?”

I ignored the way he said the nickname, as if he'd already decided it belonged to me.

“I was thinking...” I hesitated. “A flat f*e. Three days.”

Henry stared at me.

Then he laughed.

“Three days? With this face?” His eyes moved over me, slow and deliberate. “That's gonna be expensive for you.”

I crossed my arms.

“Name your price.”

That made him stop.

For the first time, Henry looked directly at me without joking.

Then he gave me another slow once-over and smirked.

“I don't want your money.”

I frowned.

“Then what do you want?”

“Three rules.”

He held up one finger.

“You break one, I leave you alone with your sister.”

My expression changed.

“Rules?”

Henry nodded.

“One: You do exactly what I say.”

I stared at him.

“Exactly?”

“Exactly.”

He leaned a little closer.

“If I tell you to kiss me in front of your ex, you kiss me.”

My eyes widened.

“No questions.”

I wasn't sure if he was serious.

The annoying part was that I couldn't tell.

Henry raised a second finger.

“Two: Nobody knows it's fake.”

His voice became more serious.

“You sell it like your life depends on it.”

He paused.

“Because it does.”

I swallowed.

This man was impossible.

Confident. Cocky. Completely comfortable with himself.

And somehow, he was making me nervous without even trying.

I shook off the feeling.

“And three?”

Henry's smile returned.

He leaned closer, his voice dropping into a teasing tone.

“Three: Don't fall in love with me.”

I stared at him.

He looked completely serious for about half a second.

Then his smirk widened.

“Every girl does. It gets annoying.”

I almost laughed.

Instead, I rolled my eyes.

“Don't worry.”

I gave him a dismissive look.

“Not my type.”

Henry's smile didn't disappear.

If anything, it grew wider.

“They all say that, princesa.”

He paused just long enough to make sure I was listening.

“Every single one.”

I shook my head.

I couldn't believe I was standing there negotiating with a man who was clearly far too pleased with himself.

But I needed this.

I needed someone who could walk into my parents' house beside me and make Ian and Ruby believe I'd moved on.

And Henry seemed very good at pretending.

“There’s one more thing,” Henry said.

I looked at him.

“What?”

“I cook Christmas dinner at your parents' house.”

I blinked.

“In that apron?”

Henry glanced down at the apron and smirked.

“In this apron.”

He tapped it lightly.

“It’s my trademark.”

I stared at him for a moment.

I hadn't expected that.

But if he was willing to come home with me, pretend to be my boyfriend, and cook Christmas dinner for my family, I wasn't about to argue about his apron.

I took a breath.

“Deal.”

I was still staring at Henry.I couldn't seem to help it.His words kept replaying in my head.I care if you're okay.No one had ever said it to me quite like that. Not because they didn't care about me.At least, I didn't think that was true.My family loved me.They just...Ruby always needed more.More attention.More help.More patience. And somewhere along the way, I'd gotten used to needing less.Henry was still looking at me.I finally broke eye contact.“Why do you care?”He shrugged, like the answer was obvious.“Because I do.”I stared at him. That was it?No clever joke?No sarcastic comment? No ridiculous smile?Just because I do?I looked away.Henry stood up.“Come on.”I frowned.“Where?”“Your room.”I blinked.“My room?”He looked at me as if I'd asked the most ridiculous question imaginable.“Unless you're planning on sleeping at the dinner table.”I rolled my eyes.“You're impossible.”“And yet, you hired me.”I opened my mouth to argue. Then closed it.Unfortunatel

Henry reeled me in and kissed me in front of everyone. For a second, my entire body froze.I hadn't expected it.Not like that. Not with my father sitting across the table, Ian standing nearby, and Ruby watching from the other side.Henry, apparently, had no such concerns. He pulled away as calmly as if he'd just finished making a perfectly ordinary point.I stared at him.He looked completely composed.Of course he did. That was Henry. He could walk into a room full of strangers, cause absolute chaos, and somehow look like he was enjoying a perfectly relaxing afternoon. His eyes met mine. There was a hint of amusement in them.Like he knew exactly what he'd just done to me.I opened my mouth, but no words came out. Then Henry leaned slightly closer.“Rule one, princesa.”My eyes widened.Right.Rule one.Pretend.The kiss had been part of the act.At least, that was what I kept telling myself. Before I could respond, I noticed Ruby. Her smile had disappeared. She was staring at us, a

  • THE SHIRTLESS CHEF IS MY FAKE BOYFRIEND   BUSINESS TALK - PART 2

Henry sat across from Ian as if this were the most ordinary dinner in the world. That was probably the most irritating part.He looked completely calm. Relaxed, even. Then he looked directly at Ian.Meanwhile, Ian had been staring at him like he was still trying to figure out exactly what kind of man had walked into his ex-girlfriend's family dinner wearing a green apron.I kept my eyes on my plate. This was getting ridiculous.First, Henry had shown up pretending to be my boyfriend. Then my father had started questioning him. Then Ian had appeared out of nowhere. And now we were apparently discussing Henry's finances over dinner.I wasn't sure whether to laugh or hide under the table.Henry picked up his glass and took a casual sip.“YouTube AdSense: fifty-two grand last month.”Ian's smile disappeared.I slowly looked up.Fifty-two thousand dollars? In one month?Henry continued before anyone could react.“My cookbook: thirty-four grand.”My eyebrows shot up.His cookbook? He had a

Everyone was still eating when I realized something strange. The tension in the room had finally started to disappear.Henry's steak had become the main attraction at the table. Even my dad, who rarely complimented anyone's cooking, had gone back for another piece.“Henry, this is amazing!” Mom said, smiling. “Where did you learn to cook like this?”“My mom taught me. Before she passed.”Mom's expression softened.“She taught you well.”Henry smiled.“She really did.”Dad took another bite and nodded approvingly. “Better than the steakhouse downtown.”Henry laughed. “Thank you, sir.”“And that's saying something. I know that place.”“Then I'll take that as a serious compliment.”Dad smiled. “You should.”I couldn't help smiling at Henry. He looked completely comfortable at the table, as if he'd been sitting with my family for years.Ruby took another bite.“I have to admit,” she said, “this is really good.”“Thank you.”She smiled politely before turning toward me.“You really lucked

Ruby's smile was the first thing I noticed. She stood in the living room beside Ian, looking perfectly pleased with herself. Christmas presents sat on the table behind them, wrapped in bright paper beneath the warm glow of the tree.I was still standing near the doorway when Ruby suddenly lifted her left hand right in front of my face. The diamond caught the light."Five carats, Clara. Ian proposed in Paris."I stared at the ring for a second.Five carats.Of course.Ruby watched my face closely, waiting for my reaction."You remember Paris, right?"I looked at her.She gave me an innocent smile."Oh... sorry. I forgot you've never been."There it was.Ruby's favorite way of getting under my skin. She didn't need to say anything openly cruel. She could make a perfectly sweet comment and somehow turn it into a competition.I forced a smile."Congratulations.""Thank you."She lowered her hand, but the smile on her face told me she wasn't finished.Ian finally spoke."Clara looks good."

  • THE SHIRTLESS CHEF IS MY FAKE BOYFRIEND   The Ex

The Jones family house had finally settled down. For a few precious minutes, there was no arguing, no awkward introductions, and no one asking about my new boyfriend.Upstairs, Mom and Aunt Simone were curled up together on the master bed, quietly discussing the most interesting subject of the evening: me.More specifically, my new boyfriend.Dad walked into the room and immediately noticed the suspicious atmosphere."What are you two hiding?""Nothing!" Mom said a little too quickly.Aunt Simone glanced at her before answering."We were just talking about Clara's boyfriend."Dad's expression immediately darkened."The naked YouTuber?"Mom sighed."Theodore...""The guy who cooks in an apron?""What about him?" Mom asked."What kind of actual profession is that?""He's a YouTuber.""That's a profession now?""He makes a living from his channel."Dad stared at her."A channel where he cooks?""Yes.""While wearing an apron?"Aunt Simone smiled."Sometimes."Dad shook his head in disbel
