IRIS' POV.

At exactly seven thirty in the morning, a car stopped in front of the manor to pick us up, like Princess Adessa said. We were ushered into the car and we were told that the ride would take almost fifteen minutes before we reached the courtyard.

“Are you okay?” Draco asked, squeezing my hand. “You’ve been quiet the whole ride.”

“Do you think I’m underdressed?” I asked back. The car we were in had a big distance from where we were seated to the front, where the driver was. There was also a partition wall, and soft music was playing, so I wanted to believe he couldn’t hear us.

He shook his head. “No, you’re not.”

Draco wore black pants and a black polo shirt. Even with the simplicity of his clothes, he still looked so elegant and powerful. I also went for a simple dress. I chose a knee length cream and emerald green milkmaid like dress with long off-shoulder sleeves that billowed around my elbows and a neckline that was framed by gathered fabric and gentle ruffles. I just thou

IRIS.If it were my choice, we could have stayed longer in front of the Orebrus. I wanted to revel in the affection that my mate was showing me. I thought I would have a hard time convincing Draco that my memories were real, but I underestimated how he felt for me. I didn’t want the moment to end, but despite all the beauty of him accepting me as his mate, I felt danger was approaching. So I had to take us out of the palace.I had seen from King Leoric’s memory when he taught Eox how to leave Wicker Forest without taking the portals. My grandfather’s memories were indeed a very good teacher, because even if I hadn’t done any of the chants and magic he performed, his memories were so clear and vivid in my head that it was easy to follow. I gripped Draco tightly as we entered the spiral tube once more, and when the spinning ended, we were back in the same forest where Eox found us. “Draco?” A loud, familiar voice came, and even before I could see where the sound was coming from, Dra

  • THE SUBSTITUTE LUNA   Chapter 152

**Trigger warning—memory of SA and violence against women. Read with caution.IRIS' MEMORYConstantine lied, and I fell for it. There was no wife. There was no daughter. There was no family. He took me home and held me prisoner. He needed a wife to inherit his great-grandfather’s estate, and among the many women he could pick up and lure with his money—he still chose me. **MY BODY trembled as Constantine slapped Iris when she refused to wear the wedding gown he delivered to her room. I couldn’t count the number of times he hit her that I almost wanted to vomit.****IRIS ATTEMPTED to run away. He dragged her back by her hair and every servant in his mansion witnessed that. No wonder they never showed her respect. Constantine put a shackle around her ankle, which connected to a metal chain. I watched with so much hatred as my mate walked down the aisle at her wedding with bloodshot eyes and hollow cheeks, dragging her feet that were still tied with that fucking chain.****AND IF I THO

CONTINUATION OF IRIS’ MEMORY shown to Draco. Any paragraph that begins with ** is Draco's personal POV as he witnessed her memory.------------------“What if she’s telling the truth?” Felicity asked her mom. “Alpha Draco? She’s batshit crazy. Just like her mother.”“Listen, Mom. I think she’s not lying…” Felicity spoke in a hushed tone, but I could still hear her. “I saw Alpha Draco in the crowd. I pushed my way toward him but then he began shouting. At first, I thought he was just pissed off at the crowd, but I realized he was asking his men to look for someone—a female. So I thought he was with someone, but now, with what Iris said, it was all making sense. At some point, he began cursing because he said, I can’t smell her anymore! It might be because Iris was pushed away from him.”“It can just be a coincidence…”“But what if it’s not?” Felicity insisted. There was silence. I would have liked to stay longer so I could hear the rest of their conversation, but I heard footsteps ap

CONTINUATION OF IRIS' MEMORY.Until the source of electricity pulled me up and it gave me the best sensation I had ever felt in my life.My whole world stopped as I realized the vibrations were sparks, and an intoxicating smell suddenly enveloped me—overpowering the scent of sweat, burned electric, and wood. “Mate!” I screamed. But as fast as it happened, it was also gone in an instant. I was pulled away by the crowd so that no matter how hard my mate was gripping my hand, I couldn’t hold on to it.But I knew what I saw. I was holding Alpha Draco’s hand. “Sir!” I screamed as I raised my hand, trying to get his attention, but he was already five or more feet away, and I kept drifting further. He kept looking around and I saw frustration on his face as he tried to shove people around him. But how could he see me when everyone around me was taller than I was, even with my arm raised? “Sir! Mate!” I screamed again, but the chaos drowned my voice. While I was pushed back, he was walkin

FLASHBACK—3 YEARS AGOIRIS’ MEMORY shown to Draco. Any paragraph that begins with ** is Draco's personal POV as he witnessed Iris memory.---------The wind sent a chill down my spine, so I gripped my hand-me-down coat tighter around my body. Walking on a cold night in thin fabric wasn't how I planned to celebrate my eighteenth birthday, but, as always, I didn’t have a choice. “Can you walk faster? I’m not the one who’s supposed to wait for you…” Felicity snapped at me as she walked with big strides. She wanted to attend the festival because her favorite musicians would be playing, and there would be big names in attendance. She was hoping one of them would notice her. She was supposed to attend with her mother, who was my stepmother. But Chriselda slipped and ended up with a swollen ankle, so I was a last-minute replacement.“Felicity, I’m cold,” I mumbled. I didn’t have gloves, and the beanie I wore was too small and couldn’t cover my ears. “Then tell your wolf to warm you up.” S

DRACO.I had no idea who the people in the memory I was looking at were. But I tried to absorb as much as I could to help Iris. I was hoping we could get information on how to get away from here. But the memory came too fast, and it was gone too fast as well. The next thing I knew, I was trying to keep Iris from falling in the pond. I kept her still as I listened to her sobbing ramblings. I had no idea how to console her. I was never good at it. Then she began asking questions, and I just let her do what she wanted, even if I had no idea what she was aiming for. Her hands held my temples as she began murmuring words I heard from King Leoric at the Orebrus. It dawned on me that she was trying to restore my memory. I wanted to tell her she needed to keep her mana strong and that my memory would come back on its own time, but her expression shut me up. Iris might seem fragile and innocent, but I knew what determination looked like, and that was what her face showed. Her first try wa
