Mile’s POVI was seated in the dining room together with Grayham and his Grandpa. Grayham had just dropped by the house with a file, Victor’s file. The day I learned about him, I assigned Henry to collect every piece of information he could on him. Look what we ended up with: a criminal record.I turned to Grayham. “Do you think he’s going to be here?” I could tell that Grayham was striving to keep his cool. He looks mad.Grayham nodded. “Of course, he’s going to be here. He wants this family’s validation so bad,” he stopped and cleared his throat. “I mean he wants your family’s validation so bad that he would be here,”Suddenly, the butler arrived in the dining room. He turned to Grayham’s Grandpa. “We have a situation. I just got word from the gate that the young man you’ve barred from setting foot here is at the entrance, claiming you invited him,”“Of course. Send him in,”The butler left. I turned to Grayham. “You’re right after all. He wants this family’s validation very badly,”
Grayham’s POV“Come in,” I responded after a knock landed on my door. I dropped my pen and looked up.Victor walked into the office.I didn’t invite him and the last time I checked, I had gone through his risk assessment document and gave him the right to go ahead with the rest of the project.Victor glanced at his wrist watch. “It’s almost lunch time so perhaps, I can come back some other time,”“No!” I replied almost immediately. I had no intention of taking the lunch break anyway. “Please, have a seat,”Victor pulled out the chair next to me and sat. I sighed heavily and wondered how possible it was for me to share the same space with him and not be overwhelmed by the feeling of strangling him.Looks like Miles is beginning to rub some of his goodness on me. On the other hand, Victor is not the kind of person who would sit and chat with me. As far as he’s concerned, I’m a bloody riff raff.Victor stationed his hands on the table. A few moments of silence passed between us. I could
NIGHT OF MISCHIEFGrayham’s POVI narrowed my gaze to the empty bowl before me and when I turned, my eyes met with Miles.“Out of popcorn?” He smiled.“Yeah,” I dumped the empty bowl on the table beside me and fell flat on my back.Miles sighed and reached for the blanket. “Am I still sick, or is it the weather?” He began to stretch it.“You’re not the only one who is cold,” I said and reached for one end of the blanket.Miles and I slipped into the blanket, covering our whole bodies except our faces. We were about to turn at the same time but ended up colliding, our faces bumped into each other’s. We laughed and stayed in that position, our bodies gliding against each other.I began to take slow and even breaths because having Miles this close to me was already making me tense or should I say hard.I shut my eyes, forgot about the movie that was playing in the background, and slowly lay on my back. With my eyes shut, I placed my hands behind my head.Stay focused, Grayham!I shouldn’
Grayham’s POVThe last customer stepped out and then Shirley matched to the counter and took off her apron. She turned to me. “I’ll see you tomorrow afternoon,” then she darted her gaze back to Max. “Or should I say I’ll be seeing Max in the afternoon since I only see Miles at night,”I laughed and handed over a take-out I had obtained on my way home to her. “Good night, Shirley,”She received the package with a bright smile and left. I went to the door right after it opened for Shirley and flipped the ‘closed sign’Max slumped on one of the chairs. “Now that all the customers are gone, it’s time to have dinner with my best friend and maybe catch up,”I smiled and dropped the rest of the stuff on the table right in front of him I sat directly opposite Max and pulled out a can of soda from the bag.“Bravo! You’re doing well,”Max sighed and also grabbed a can of soda. “Well, it’s not easy but you did give me a purpose, and it looks like I’m starting to enjoy this work and especially th
Grayham’s POV“Okay. Go ahead and handle it,”Victor’s jaw almost dropped to the floor.I turned to him with open hands. “You want a chance to run the risk assessment for Mr. Park then so be it. You’ve got two days to report back to me by the way,”Victor's face showed a mixed reaction. First, he seemed excited, and then his eyelashes began to flicker in anxiety.I adjusted my tie and fell back on the chair. “You have nothing to worry about. I’m sure you have questions on whether or not your brother would approve of this but be assured that as the acting CEO, it’s in my position to make immediate decisions and that is what I’ve just done,”Victor sprang from the chair with a smile. For the first time in forever, I saw a real smile on his face. Not a sinister one nor an impish grin.“I’ll show you what I’ve got,” he replied and clenched his fists. This time, his fists weren’t clenched in anger but in determination.“Then get to work,” I said, and turned to Mr. Park right after Victor w
Mile’s POVLast night was crazy. It felt as feel my soul was being pulled out of my body. Thanks to Grayham, I’m still alive. I wonder what would have happened if he hadn’t been in the room with me last night. I’m glad his Grandpa asked him to stay.I opened my eyes and the first thing I did was tap my phone screen so I could check the time. It was almost 8 am. I turned to the other side of the bed. It was empty.I stood up, walked to the bathroom but he wasn’t there. Then I noticed the clothes he wore last night on the sofa.It appears he was gone.I went back to the bathroom, had a warm bath, and got dressed. Then I traced my way out of the room. When I reached the dining room downstairs, I saw Grayham having breakfast with my Grandpa. While Grayham was fully dressed in his suit, my Grandpa was in his pajamas. They heard my footsteps approaching and immediately turned to me.“I was about to leave when your Grandpa insisted I have breakfast,” Grayham supplied.I smiled, pulled out th
