CHAPTER 1

CHAPTER ONE: THUNDERS BERAKING THE SKY

Cring, sobbing and sadness. That is how we can describe the landscape that death loves to watch from the corner of that place. People in their scrubs ran back and forth and, one on the benches there, she was there. Despair was printed on her face, there was nothing else when her heart had been torn apart mercilessly.

“We need to do some studies, your son needs urgent surgery. If we don’t operate, her life will be in danger.”

In Rebecca's life there was nothing else but her son and the doctor’s words. How come it was possible? They had operated on her countless times. She was broke. 50, 000 dollars. She knew she had to have two hundred dollars since the doctor had already talked about that before. Now, her nightmare was becoming real.

Rud was the name of the precious angel that was brought to her like a miracle. Rud was the little angel that had been born with a strange disease that prevented her from even running to his mother’s arms. It is true, money can’t buy happiness, love and life, but, when life teaches otherwise? In this case, money does buy life, the life of her treasure. She was not going to give up on her little angel, she was going to fight against death, not even death was going to be able to take her son away.

“Money, Money. Rud will live. Money, money, my Rud will get out of here!” Rebecca remained to herself getting up from the bench she had used.

After having wiped away her tears, she knocked on her uncle’s house door. After all, he was everything she had.

Her uncle opened the door and with a sarcastic smile he received her. Rebecca couldn’t expect less from her aunt who was inside the house.

“Really? Are you being serious? I can’t believe this. The last time you came I gave you 50,000 dollars.”

With tears in her eyes, she looked at her aunt. “Please, aunt Lina, I’m sorry for the problems I’ve ocassioned you but, my son needs more surgeries, please.”

“I don’t have money, I don’t even know if you’re telling the truth, this is too much, that boy of yours has to be faking,” exclaimed the middle-aged woman on the couch.

Rebecca would have fallen on her knees if her aunt had asked her to do that. How come her relatives could be doing that to her?

“Please, aunt Lina, help me and I promise, this is the last time you’re seeing me!”

“I don’t care about you or your daughter. Now, get out of here!”

Without any care, her uncle took her by her arm and kicked her out of their small house. The same house they would be kicked out of someday since the owner had said the house was going to be sold soon.

“Really, is she asking us for more money?!” Rebecca heard her uncle complaining. If only they knew how much she was suffering, her son was sick, her son was in danger.

Everyone had problems but, there were some of them that could still offer a hand and they chose not to do that. In her mind, more relatives came to her thoughts but, it was not necessary to guess what they would yell at her as soon as she knocked on their doors.

“No one wants to know anything about you, you’re no more than a relative. Forget about us! Get out. Not even your stepfather wanted to know something about you.”

A heavy rain over her, that was all she needed to make that night one of the saddest nights in her life. Tearfully, she took her cell phone from her pocket. There was someone who had to help her. Donovan.

She was very young when all of that happened, but the memories were still as fresh as that day. Rebecca had been married to Donovan, she had accepted her even when the little Rud was not even his son. They lived happily for some years until the death of Rebecca´s adoptive mother. Everything fell apart. Donovan accused her of being a cheater. He had said she didn’t know her son's father and after that, he kicked her out of his house. That was when her son's illness kicked off. All of a sudden, he was declared strangely ill.

Rebecca, where was her life? Rebecca, one of the most respected women in that country? Many secrets. At which moment did her world turn upside-down? Rebecca Osara had been her name, Rebecca had been the woman who many people had respected and looked up to. How come that happened after being a respected woman in that country? The life she had once was no longer her life. The present was here, an uncertain future on the horizon and she was just a woman fighting for the life of her son.

Just a sarcastic laugh was heard from the other line. No matter how much she had prayed, no matter how much she had explained the situation to him, all she could have was his stupid laugh.

“What did you say? Are you for real?” asked Donovan.

“Donovan, I’m telling you the tru-”

“I don’t care!” Donovan cut her off.

“Donovan, please, help me out, I swear, I’ll pay you back. I need your help now! If you felt something for me, please, help me out.”

Just a laugh on the other line. “What are you saying? If I had feelings for you? You are too stupid to tell me that? I didn’t, I don’t and I will never have feelings for you, it was just a plan.

My company depends on you whether I like it or not! That’s all! Oh, by the way, I can’t help you. My trip is just starting, so please, don’t bother me anymore.”

“Donovan, my love, who are you talking to?” A sensual voice was heard on the other line. By that moment, Rebecca had understood everything. He was with someone else.

“Donovan, you-” Rebecca tried to say. She wanted to reclaim him, she wanted to take out on him all her discomfort, but all she could was to clench her fist.

“Donovan, you’re right,” said Rebecca, “since we’re no longer married, I claim half of the company. No, hold on! I don’t want the company, I just want 50, 000 dollars. That's all. I’m not asking you anything else. You know how much you can earn from the company since it has done well so far. Give me two hundred dollars and you’re not seeing me.”

“To be honest, this is what I was expecting from you, but there is a problem, my dearest, “ he laughed.

“What are you talking about, Donovan?!”

“Do you remember the contract? Well, how to tell you that was premarital property justice.

I’m so sorry to tell you this but, you were so drunk that you didn't even know what you signed. I don’t owe you anything, stupid woman”.

Once again, Rebecca had nothing in this life, once again she had lost and, it seemed, she would continue losing everything until her breath. That man on the other side was laughing and was making fun of her. If only she had the power to take back time, there was no doubt she would do that.

She wanted to cry out all her pain, she wanted to have that man in front of her and kill him with her bare hands, but nothing of that was possible.

“You... I hate you!” said Rebecca. A rebellious tear fell down. “You can’t be a man, you cannot be a man! You planned everything. I hate you!”

If she could ask for a wish, it would be to die and give her life to her son.

“Sorry for you, please, be more careful in your next marriage!” With nothing else to say, he hung up.

Without any strength in her body, she fell in the middle of the street where she was. The thunder tore apart the sky, the heavy rain beat her up and the wet clothes couldn’t be wetter if it wasn’t because of her bloody tears. That man had played with her. She was wrong when she thought he could have feelings for her.

No, she couldn’t die. No matter how much she wished to die at that mere instant, she had someone who was waiting for her. Her precious boy needed her, her precious son trusted his mother to save his life.

Suddenly, when she felt there was nothing good for him, a call on her cellphone. It was her best friend Linnette. After having explained to her the problems she was going through, she felt the need to ask for the money she had leant to her best friend.

“I’m sorry, I am really sorry, but I can’t give it to you now. I have a problem with the bank and I can’t withdraw any coin.”

Once again, tears in her eyes. “My son, my son is suffering!”

“I feel so bad, I don’t even know what to say.”

“He can’t die. He can’t suffer anymore!”

“Rebecca, I think there’s another way to get that money you need...”

“What?” Rebecca's tears stopped right away.

“The club we have always talked about is looking for the most beautiful woman who can be the company for one of the Muriel brothers,” said her friend, hesitatingly.

“What did you say?” In her heart, those words had lit up a certain hope in her.

Her son was going to live, no matter what she had to do, she was going to fight back wherever and whenever.
