Doman’s POV

The smell of gasoline and cheap tobacco clung to the cracked sidewalks of the hood as I stepped out of my car. It had been years since I set foot here. Eyes followed me from doorways, some curious, some suspicious.

“Hey, man. What’s up? We haven’t seen you in the hood for some time. Fill me in.” Michael, my oldest friend, ambled over with his familiar swagger, his grin wide.

I forced a smile that felt more like a mask. “I’ve been busy with some things. Very important things. It’s good to see you though.”

His face lit up as he handed me a cigar. I held up a palm. “I don’t really do this anymore since I came back from prison. It’s bad for the health. You should stop too.”

Michael’s grin faltered into a frown. “When did you become good? Nah, don’t preach to me, Doman. You’re always a bad person. That’s who you are. Nothing can change that.”

My fists curled so tight my nails bit my palms. His words buzzed in my skull like hornets, but I forced myself to swallow the rage. “Take care, Michael,” I muttered, turning away.

“Dude, what the fuck is wrong with you? I’m telling you the truth, man. You can never be good. You killed your mom, remember? You’re a bad boy. Come back to the hood, let’s run some deals together,” he pressed, voice rising.

Something snapped. I spun, grabbed him by the collar and shoved him back hard enough to rock him. “Don’t you ever mention my mother again!” I snarled.

Michael’s laugh was sharp, almost unhinged. “Bastard,” he spat, blood dribbling onto the cracked pavement.

My pulse pounded like a drum. If I stayed another second, I’d do something that would drag me back to a cell. I turned on my heel, stormed to my car and slammed the door.

Knuckles white against the steering wheel, I drove, trying to outpace the ghosts. My mother’s face flashed behind my eyelids. The argument, her hand clutching her chest, her body crumpling before I could reach her. I hadn’t killed her, not like they said. But I had been the reason she died.

Axel had walked in on us and spun his story, his mother backed him up. Their lies sealed my fate. Five years gone. Five years while Axel bled my father’s properties dry, he took everything without leaving any.

I was burning for revenge. Every mile I drove fed the fire. I hadn’t found the perfect opening until Dami crossed my path. It was unfortunate she would get caught in the crossfire, but i will take back everything Axel stole. All I had to do was play along and enjoy the process.

I decided to see Dami at the company. What’s a lover’s visit without flowers and chocolates? I bought a bouquet of red roses and a box of chocolates before driving there.

The building rose sleek and modern, a world away from the hood. As I walked in, whispers rippled through the staff. They stared as if a ghost had walked in. I was Axel’s double but sharper, and more dangerous.

Following the receptionist’s directions, I stepped into Dami’s office wearing the smile that had always gotten me out of trouble. “Hello, love,” I said smoothly.

Sophia’s eyes darted between me and Dami, her brows knitting. My smile faltered into a frown. "What’s happening here, and why is he calling you ‘love’? He’s even carrying flowers. Somebody say something,” Sophia demanded.

Dami’s posture gave her away, her shoulders tight and eyes downcast. Hadn’t she told Sophia about us? “Dami is my girlfriend now,” I said lightly, strolling closer.

Sophia gasped and shook her head. I sank onto the sofa beside Dami, brushed my lips against her cheek, and inhaled her scent. It was warm vanilla and something sharper. She looked breathtaking. This idea wasn’t bad after all.

“Dami, we both agreed that Doman being here is for the revenge plan and nothing else. This isn’t right and I don’t approve,” Sophia snapped.

Dami sighed but said nothing.

“What the fuck is wrong with you? Babe, who is this one and why does she think she can order you around?” I barked, heat rising in my chest.

Sophia blinked at me, stunned. Dami put a steadying hand on my thigh. “She’s my assistant and like a sister, Doman. Don’t talk to her like that,” she said softly.

“I don’t give a damn. She’s doing too much. I know she never liked me. You’re the boss here, set boundaries,” I shot back.

“You’re an asshole. Dami, can you see what I’m saying? I’m right but you won’t listen,” Sophia argued, eyes flashing.

“It’s okay! Sophia, let’s go talk outside,”

Dami cut her off, grabbing her hand. They both walked out.

I rolled my eyes, a wave of relief loosening my chest. She would pay for meddling. I will make Sophia’s life a living hell, that much was certain.

A few minutes later Dami returned. “I’m sorry about what just happened,” she said quietly.

I gave her my most charming smile. “It’s okay. Just tell her to watch how she talks to me. I can be very quick to anger.”

“I have a meeting in five minutes. Can you stop by later? We’ll talk better when we get home,” she suggested.

“Okay.” I shrugged, kissed her forehead and left.

Some hours later.

I sipped my red wine, savoring the burst of flavors on my tongue. The table for two was set, the candlelight flickering off the glass. I already texted Dami the location of our dinner. She still wasn’t here.

I scrolled through I*******m to pass the time when a soft throat-clearing made me look up. It was Sophia staring at me with a smile on her face.

“What the hell are you doing here?” I asked, my voice a low growl.

It was the cringiest thing ever. Why was she smiling? We hated each other. "Calm down, baby. I just want to talk before Dami comes,” she replied.

Baby? My heartbeat slammed against my ribs. What the hell was happening?

DOMAN’S POVSophia’s perfume lingered long after she left, a sweet, cloying scent that mixed poorly with the burn of whiskey on my breath. I leaned back on the couch, closing my eyes for a second. Peace was all I wanted. But she wasn’t peace. She was ambition dressed in soft skin and deceitful smiles.“You can’t stay the night,” I told her, voice firm and my patience already stretched thin. Her eyes had flashed with something close to defiance. “You’re sending me out now?”“Yes,” I said without hesitation. “Dami could come at any time, and the last thing I need is her finding you here.”She hesitated. “You think I care what she thinks?”“I think you care about survival,” I replied, opening the door. “And if you know what’s good for you, you’ll go home.”The way she glared at me before stepping out was almost enough to make me laugh. She wanted power, not love and that made her dangerous, even to me.When the door clicked shut, I exhaled and raked a hand through my hair. The silence t

  • THE TURNAROUND CEO   Sophia II

Sophia’s POVMy hands wouldn’t stop shaking. Even after I slammed the car door behind me and left Dami’s house far behind, my heart still beat like i had run through a storm. Dami's words kept ringing in my head.I hadn’t even realized how much it hurt until I stepped out into the streetlight and the night breeze hit my skin. I didn’t have anywhere to go. Not to the hotel, I couldn’t stand another lonely room that smelled like air freshener and regret. And I couldn’t go back to her house, not after what just happened. The only place that made sense was his. It was Doman. By the time I reached his gate, my palms were sweaty. I didn’t even know what to say to him, only that I needed to see him. When he opened the door, he looked surprised. Half-dressed, towel slung over his shoulder, his expression unreadable.“Sophia?” he said slowly. “What are you doing here?”I swallowed, forcing the words out. “I had a fight with Dami. She accused me of things that aren’t even true.”His gaze harden

Axel’s POVAlexa’s face came into focus above me, it was tear-streaked, pale, but smiling. “You’re awake,” she whispered, voice trembling as she pressed a cold cloth to my forehead.I managed a weak smile. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”“You almost were one,” she shot back, voice cracking. “I thought you’d died, Axel. You stopped breathing for a minute.”“Hey,” I reached for her hand, my throat dry. “Don’t cry. I’m fine now.”Her tears fell anyway, and I felt a pang of guilt not just for scaring her, but for everything. For Dami. For Doman. For how badly i had lost control. She sniffled and wiped her eyes. “You scared me. And honestly, I think Doman was ready to finish the job if Dami hadn’t stepped in.”I let out a bitter laugh that ended in a cough. “Wouldn’t surprise me.”Alexa frowned, folding her arms. “Why did you hit him? I thought we decided to keep everything on the low.”“He provoked me,” I muttered, trying to sit up. The pain in my chest flared. “And i got angry.”Her

Dami’s POVThe silence in the car was heavy, thick enough to choke me. Streetlights flashed across Doman’s face as I drove, each one cutting across his expression. When we finally stopped in front of his house, he unbuckled his seatbelt without saying a word. "You’re not coming home with me?” I asked quietly, turning slightly toward him.He shook his head, still staring out the window. “After what happened with Axel, I don’t think I want to stay in that kind of environment right now.”My hands tightened on the steering wheel. His tone wasn’t angry, just tired. "And what does that mean for us?” I asked, trying to sound calm, but the words came out smaller than I wanted.“Nothing,” he said simply, finally looking at me. “We’re still cool. I just need to clear my head, that’s all.”The way he said it was so detached and made something in my chest sink. I nodded, my throat dry. “I understand. I’m sorry, Doman. For everything. I didn’t mean to make things worse.”He exhaled slowly, leaning

  • THE TURNAROUND CEO   Truth

Dami's POVSomething about Sophia had been off for days. It nagged at me like a loose tooth which was small at first, then constant until I couldn’t ignore it.Her smiles felt practiced. Her hands lingered in places that didn’t need touching. And when the fight happened today. She stepped toward Doman, helped him up and steadied him. I stared at my reflection in the dark glass of my office window. The city lights blinked like someone else’s life. On the surface I was calm but that was the facade i polished every morning.Inside, something kept twitching like a wound reopening. I reached for my phone and dialed my secretary without hesitation. “Ava, clear my schedule and postpone the investor calls to tomorrow. Start the process for a new assistant. I want CVs by Monday.”There was a pause. “Is everything okay, ma’am?”“Yes. Just take care of it.”After I hung up I felt a small, bitter relief. Sophia knocked and came in before I even finished setting the file down. She wore a tight sm

  • THE TURNAROUND CEO   Sophia

Sophia’s POVThe moment our lips met, the room spun. For a second, I forgot who I was, where I was, or what I was doing. It wasn’t supposed to happen but i wanted it to.The taste of him was sharp with alcohol and anger, and something inside me burned with satisfaction. Doman froze. I could feel his breath against my cheek, warm and uneven. Then, slowly, he pulled back, eyes dark with confusion.“Sophia,” he said, voice low, almost warning. “What are you doing?”I forced a small smile, trying to hide the storm brewing inside me. “Something I’ve been wanting to do since the day I met you.”He looked at me like he was trying to see through the words. My pulse raced. I didn’t move. I wanted him to be the one to either close the gap or walk away.He just stared, jaw tightening. “You shouldn’t have done that.”“Why?” I asked softly. “Because of Dami?”He turned away, grabbing his glass of whiskey and downing what was left before answering. “She trusts you.”I laughed quietly, bitterly. “Tr
