Dami’s POV

I flipped through the last of the documents on my desk. Being CEO was everything i had worked for, but the endless meetings and signatures were starting to wear on me.

I exhaled, pulling my hair into a neat ponytail just as a knock sounded on the door. "Come in,” I muttered, eyes still on the papers.

A throat cleared. That scent, and those careful footsteps. Axel. Even when I wished I didn’t, I knew him instantly.

“What is it?” My voice came out sharp, like a blade scraping glass.

“The reporters are outside for the interview. They want to meet the new boss,” he said. His voice had a soft, defeated edge that made me chuckle.

I lifted my gaze, locking on his. “How does it make you feel?”

He shifted, eyes dropping to his shoes as if they were suddenly fascinating. “I don’t feel good about it.”

“You should feel worse, Axel. You’re far too relaxed for a man who lost everything.” I reached for my compact and dabbed at my lipstick, not giving him another glance.

“Can I leave? I have other things to attend to,” he said, his tone turning rude, which only stoked my anger.

I snapped the compact shut and gave him a look that made him flinch. “You’re not leaving. We’ll face those reporters together. The whole world will see what you are now.”

His jaw dropped. “No! You can’t do that. I will be a laughing stock. The humiliation you give me is enough. Please don’t make it public.”

I laughed, the sound bitter. “You don’t want the whole world to know? Let me take you down memory lane. Remember when we were still married and I couldn’t speak? Your sister told the reporters during your party, and I was tagged the CEO’s mute wife. I’m sure you remember.”

“That was in the past, Miss Winter. Please don’t do this to me.” His voice cracked.

“Oh darling,” I said with a cool smile, “I don’t wish to. I just want you to taste your own medicine, to know how it felt. Maybe in your next life you’ll learn how to treat women better.”

His shoulders sagged, fists clenching at his sides. He looked like a man about to crumble. I smiled inwardly. Good. Now he knows.

The door swung open and Sophia stepped in. “Dami, the reporters are waiting now. Let’s go.” Her gaze slid to Axel on the floor. “What’s he doing down there?” She rolled her eyes.

I shrugged like I didn't care. I had been waiting for this day for a long time. “Axel, grab my bag and follow me.”

He hesitated, but when I gave him a piercing glare. He picked up the bag and trailed behind us.

Outside the conference room, the air buzzed. Cameras flashed in our faces, the popping sound like fireworks. Microphones were thrust toward me, reporters calling my name. Axel flinched at every flash, trying to angle his face away.

“We have confirmed you’re the new CEO,” one reporter shouted over the din. “Trusted sources say this used to be your ex-husband’s company and he now works for you. How did you achieve that?”

I kept my expression ice cold, the click of cameras echoing as i turned to Sophia who gave me a supportive glance. “My ex husband here used his company as collateral for a loan he couldn’t repay. I saw the opportunity and bought it. That’s all.”

Another microphone shot forward. “Don’t you think it’s unfair to do that to the man you once shared everything with?”

I let a sharp laugh slip, turning my eyes to Axel. “He treated me like trash, he deserved it. I used to be the CEO’s mute wife now i'm the CEO myself. I don’t care how anyone feels about it.”

A murmur rippled through the crowd. “This is a turnaround case. You’re now the turnaround CEO. Congratulations, Miss Winter,” one of them said.

I gave a small, controlled smile. “Thank you.”

They backed off, the flashing slowly dying as my staff looked on, whispering. Axel’s eyes were glassy, humiliation etched into every line of his face.

“You all should get back to work!” I snapped. They scattered instantly with a chorus of “Yes, ma’am.”

I turned to Axel. “Get me and Sophia lunch. Add a bottle of red wine, the usual restaurant. Tell them to send me the bill, and don’t stay too long.”

He gave no reply, only a stiff nod before leaving. Sophia and I returned to my office. She collapsed on the couch and kicked off her heels. “God, I’m so tired. My feet hurt.”

I chuckled. “You’re not used to heels. You can still dress corporate and rock sneakers. You don't have to be too hard on yourself.”

She shook her head. “No, I want to look presentable as your PA. Maybe later, though.”

“Your choice,” I said, leaning back.

She tilted her head. “You really did Axel dirty. That man will be depressed by now. You shouldn’t have dragged him along. I feel sorry for him.”

I rolled my eyes. “Do I look like I care? And the way you defend him is annoying. Stop it.”

Hands up, she said, “Sorry. Mouth zipped.”

“Tomorrow is the meeting with the investors, right? Is the presentation ready?”

“Yes. I didn’t sleep last night, but I’m sure the contract will be awarded to us,” she said, her confidence making me smile.

“Thank you, Sophia. For everything. I don’t take it for granted.”

She placed a hand on my chest with a soft smile. “Anything for you, my love.”

The door clicked again. A tall figure stepped in, a dark-grey suit, a faint cologne of danger. In his hands was a bouquet of flowers. "Hello, love,” Doman said with his charming smile.

Sophia’s head snapped toward me, then him, eyes narrowing. Oh no. I hadn’t told her about Doman. Not in a week. Her lips parted. “What the hell?”

And that’s where the room went silent.

DOMAN’S POVSophia’s perfume lingered long after she left, a sweet, cloying scent that mixed poorly with the burn of whiskey on my breath. I leaned back on the couch, closing my eyes for a second. Peace was all I wanted. But she wasn’t peace. She was ambition dressed in soft skin and deceitful smiles.“You can’t stay the night,” I told her, voice firm and my patience already stretched thin. Her eyes had flashed with something close to defiance. “You’re sending me out now?”“Yes,” I said without hesitation. “Dami could come at any time, and the last thing I need is her finding you here.”She hesitated. “You think I care what she thinks?”“I think you care about survival,” I replied, opening the door. “And if you know what’s good for you, you’ll go home.”The way she glared at me before stepping out was almost enough to make me laugh. She wanted power, not love and that made her dangerous, even to me.When the door clicked shut, I exhaled and raked a hand through my hair. The silence t

Sophia’s POVMy hands wouldn’t stop shaking. Even after I slammed the car door behind me and left Dami’s house far behind, my heart still beat like i had run through a storm. Dami's words kept ringing in my head.I hadn’t even realized how much it hurt until I stepped out into the streetlight and the night breeze hit my skin. I didn’t have anywhere to go. Not to the hotel, I couldn’t stand another lonely room that smelled like air freshener and regret. And I couldn’t go back to her house, not after what just happened. The only place that made sense was his. It was Doman. By the time I reached his gate, my palms were sweaty. I didn’t even know what to say to him, only that I needed to see him. When he opened the door, he looked surprised. Half-dressed, towel slung over his shoulder, his expression unreadable.“Sophia?” he said slowly. “What are you doing here?”I swallowed, forcing the words out. “I had a fight with Dami. She accused me of things that aren’t even true.”His gaze harden

Axel’s POVAlexa’s face came into focus above me, it was tear-streaked, pale, but smiling. “You’re awake,” she whispered, voice trembling as she pressed a cold cloth to my forehead.I managed a weak smile. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”“You almost were one,” she shot back, voice cracking. “I thought you’d died, Axel. You stopped breathing for a minute.”“Hey,” I reached for her hand, my throat dry. “Don’t cry. I’m fine now.”Her tears fell anyway, and I felt a pang of guilt not just for scaring her, but for everything. For Dami. For Doman. For how badly i had lost control. She sniffled and wiped her eyes. “You scared me. And honestly, I think Doman was ready to finish the job if Dami hadn’t stepped in.”I let out a bitter laugh that ended in a cough. “Wouldn’t surprise me.”Alexa frowned, folding her arms. “Why did you hit him? I thought we decided to keep everything on the low.”“He provoked me,” I muttered, trying to sit up. The pain in my chest flared. “And i got angry.”Her

Dami’s POVThe silence in the car was heavy, thick enough to choke me. Streetlights flashed across Doman’s face as I drove, each one cutting across his expression. When we finally stopped in front of his house, he unbuckled his seatbelt without saying a word. "You’re not coming home with me?” I asked quietly, turning slightly toward him.He shook his head, still staring out the window. “After what happened with Axel, I don’t think I want to stay in that kind of environment right now.”My hands tightened on the steering wheel. His tone wasn’t angry, just tired. "And what does that mean for us?” I asked, trying to sound calm, but the words came out smaller than I wanted.“Nothing,” he said simply, finally looking at me. “We’re still cool. I just need to clear my head, that’s all.”The way he said it was so detached and made something in my chest sink. I nodded, my throat dry. “I understand. I’m sorry, Doman. For everything. I didn’t mean to make things worse.”He exhaled slowly, leaning

  • THE TURNAROUND CEO   Truth

Dami's POVSomething about Sophia had been off for days. It nagged at me like a loose tooth which was small at first, then constant until I couldn’t ignore it.Her smiles felt practiced. Her hands lingered in places that didn’t need touching. And when the fight happened today. She stepped toward Doman, helped him up and steadied him. I stared at my reflection in the dark glass of my office window. The city lights blinked like someone else’s life. On the surface I was calm but that was the facade i polished every morning.Inside, something kept twitching like a wound reopening. I reached for my phone and dialed my secretary without hesitation. “Ava, clear my schedule and postpone the investor calls to tomorrow. Start the process for a new assistant. I want CVs by Monday.”There was a pause. “Is everything okay, ma’am?”“Yes. Just take care of it.”After I hung up I felt a small, bitter relief. Sophia knocked and came in before I even finished setting the file down. She wore a tight sm

  • THE TURNAROUND CEO   Sophia

Sophia’s POVThe moment our lips met, the room spun. For a second, I forgot who I was, where I was, or what I was doing. It wasn’t supposed to happen but i wanted it to.The taste of him was sharp with alcohol and anger, and something inside me burned with satisfaction. Doman froze. I could feel his breath against my cheek, warm and uneven. Then, slowly, he pulled back, eyes dark with confusion.“Sophia,” he said, voice low, almost warning. “What are you doing?”I forced a small smile, trying to hide the storm brewing inside me. “Something I’ve been wanting to do since the day I met you.”He looked at me like he was trying to see through the words. My pulse raced. I didn’t move. I wanted him to be the one to either close the gap or walk away.He just stared, jaw tightening. “You shouldn’t have done that.”“Why?” I asked softly. “Because of Dami?”He turned away, grabbing his glass of whiskey and downing what was left before answering. “She trusts you.”I laughed quietly, bitterly. “Tr
