LIAM'S POV

The sound of knocking pulled me out of my thoughts.

At first, I ignored it, thinking maybe it was the rain hitting the door but then it came again soft, desperate, uneven.

It was late, and after everything with Betsy, the last thing I wanted was another disturbance.

I moved toward the door, half-expecting to see her again.

But when I opened it, my breath caught.

There she was.

Alira.

Standing in the pouring rain, her hair plastered to her face, her dress soaked through, clinging to

AlIRA’S POVThe doctor’s question did not register immediately. It just hung in the air like something unreal.I stared at him, certain I had heard wrong. My fingers tightened around the edge of the hospital bed.“What did you say?”The doctor did not look amused. His expression remained calm for someone who had just asked a question capable of stopping my heart. He adjusted the file in his hand and repeated himself slowly.“I asked... How long have you been reborn?”For a second, I forgot how to breathe. The room suddenly felt smaller as everything blurred.I forced out a laugh, though it sounded weak even to my own ears.“I think you’re mistaken.”“I’m not.”“I don’t understand what you mean.”His eyes stayed fixed on mine and that unsettled me more than if he had shouted.Because he looked like a man who already knew the answer.“I came here because I haven’t been feeling well….If this is some kind of joke..”“It isn’t.”He placed the file down gently then he pulled his chair close

  • THE WIDOW WHO NEVER WAS   CHAPTER SIXTY FOUR

BETSY'S POVBy the time I reached my mother’s house, my anger had become hot and poisonous inside my chest.I didn’t knock gently.I pushed the door open and walked in like the house still belonged to me.My mother was seated in the living room, flipping through documents with her glasses low on her nose, looking far too calm for someone whose entire position had just been publicly torn apart. She looked up once then returned her eyes to the papers.“You look terrible,” she said flatly.I dropped my bag on the sofa.“Are you seriously sitting there like nothing happened?”That got her attention as she slowly removed her glasses.“Excuse me?”“Alira!” I snapped. “That’s what happened! She walked into the company like she owned the entire world and embarrassed you in front of everyone!”My mother’s jaw tightened, but she remained silent.I paced the room.“You are way too calm Mother…She had documents!!!! Real documents…Nobody questioned her. Nobody defended you…they all just sat there

  • THE WIDOW WHO NEVER WAS   CHAPTER SIXTY THREE

ALIRA’S POVPanic would not help me.That was the first thing I told myself when the sun rose the next morning.I sat in the kitchen, holding a warm cup of coffee in both hands, staring at nothing in particular. The house was quiet except for the faint ticking of the wall clock.Someone had broken into my home..someone had sent me a threat and someone knew exactly where I lived.Yet strangely… I wasn’t panicking.Maybe because panic had never saved me before. In my previous life, fear had only made me weak and blind to the real enemies around me.Not this time. This time, I will think carefully, slowly and logically.I took a sip of my coffee and leaned back in the chair.Who would want to attack me?The obvious suspects lined up quickly in my mind.My mother..betsy…Alec..Business enemies from shelving Holdings or someone connected to Alec. But something didn’t feel right. If this was about the company, it was too soon.I had only taken over the position yesterday.Corporate enemies

  • THE WIDOW WHO NEVER WAS   CHAPTER SIXTY TWO

ALIRA’S POVI didn’t wait to hear the rest of Liam’s conversation. The moment those words left his friend’s mouth, my body reacted before my mind did.Second chance…Previous life.It echoed in my head like a gunshot. My feet moved automatically as I backed away from the pillar, careful not to make any sound. My heart was pounding so loudly I was certain they could hear it.Liam… was reborn too.The realization made my stomach twist.I got into my car without looking back and drove home. The entire drive felt like a blur.By the time I stepped into my apartment, my mind was spinning.I locked the door behind me and leaned against it, breathing slowly.“No,” I whispered to myself. “No, no, no…”I pushed away from the door and began pacing the living room.Everything was suddenly different.Everything…the message…the mysterious email…the warning. The words came rushing back into my mind as clearly as the day I first read them.Three hearts woke up from the same death. One seeks redempt

ALIRA’S POVThe silence in the boardroom lasted only three seconds. Then chaos exploded.“What nonsense is this?” my mother snapped, slamming her palm on the table as she shot to her feet. The shareholders began whispering among themselves. Some looked confused and some looked amused while some… looked curious.I placed my bag calmly on the table and took a seat at the head of it.“My name is Alira shelving,” I said evenly. “And as of this morning, I am the acting Chief Executive Officer of Shelving Holdings.”“You have lost your mind!” my mother barked. “Security!”“No need,” I said smoothly. Then I slid a thick brown envelope across the table.“Please, save yourself further embarrassment and open it.” I said. One of the senior shareholders, Mr. Carter frowned but reached for the envelope. He adjusted his glasses and began reading the documents inside. His brows slowly rose as he flipped through another page. Then another. The room grew quieter. Finally, he cleared his throat.“The

ALIRA'S POV “Hide.”Liam stared at me like I had just insulted him.“I’m not hiding,” he said firmly.“You are,” I whispered harshly, gripping his arm. “Alec is outside.”“So?” he snapped. “Let him see me.”“Are you crazy?” I hissed. “If he sees you here, everything goes haywire and I am in no fucking mood to entertain such chaos.”“I don’t care,” Liam said. “I’m tired of sneaking around like I’m the problem.”“This isn’t about pride!” I snapped. “And it definitely isn't about you being a problem so fucking go!!”He looked at me, jaw tight, eyes blazing.“You’re asking me to hide like a dirty secret,” he said.“On the contrary, aren't you??" “Eva??!!" “I’m asking you to protect yourself,” I replied. “Please.”The doorbell rang again.“Eva, open the door." Alec said impatiently.“I am coming…hold on a second." Liam exhaled sharply.“Five minutes,” I said urgently. “Just hide for five minutes.”Another knock came harder this time.Liam clenched his fists, then finally turned
