LOGINALIRA'S POV
“It's Alec." Betsy bit out. At that moment, it felt like I was being poured ice water and I instantly started shivering. "Which Alec??” My mother asked. "How many Alecs do we have mother??” "Wait, are you trying to tell me that you are pregnant for your sister's husband??” “He was mine first before he met Alira…and as far as I am concerned, I don't acknowledge that sham of a marriage.” Betsy said. I was patiently waiting for my Mother's response….I was waiting for her to say something...to defend my honor...to call Betsy back to order. “Well, if that's the case then it's fine…i'm glad you could give him what Alira couldn't give to him.” My Mother said as I almost dropped down to the ground. “Well I kinda have a secret to share with you Mother but promise you wouldn't say anything to anyone." Betsy said. “Tell me anything dear… I am all ears." “When Alira was pregnant for the first time, Alec told me about it and said he didn't want his child coming from her and he said Alira was too stubborn to take it out and so I suggested that he did the job himself…he switched her vitamin pills with the wrong drugs which caused her to have a miscarriage.” Betsy said. I didn’t breathe. The moment I heard it, my lungs locked up like they didn’t belong to me anymore. I didn’t even move…I couldn’t. My back stayed pressed flat against the wall and my spine was too rigid to bend, too fragile to bear the weight of what I’d just heard. Every part of me was shaking, but from the outside, I must’ve looked like a statue molded in disbelief. I wrapped my arms around myself without realizing it, like I needed something…anything… to hold me together. My eyes just stared, wide and dry, fixed on nothing. I couldn’t cry too….The tears were there, but shock had wedged itself between me and the ability to feel them fall. My own heartbeat became the loudest thing in the room and still, I stood there….silent, hidden, unraveling inch by inch. “As much as that is too extreme, it still serves Alira right for always acting like he knows it all…but what about Liam?? What are you going to do about him??” "Liam is a fool Mother….he will do whatever I tell him due to his love for me.. he's like my puppet." Betsy said as her and my Mother burst into laughter. I turned around and went back back slowly into my car parked outside. “Where are we headed madam??" My driver asked. “Home." I said. The drive back home was quiet…but the noise in my head was loud…too loud that it could make one go crazy. As soon as we arrived, I came down from the car, walked into the house and headed straight to Alec and I's room. He wasn't around and so I freshened up and sat on the couch in the room waiting patiently for him. I didn't cry, I didn't get mad…I just sat down still and wallowed through the storm raging inside of me. Three hours later, I was still in the same spot..I didn't move and I didn't change position and then Alec walked into the room humming a song and smiling like he won a lottery…he definitely just won a lottery indeed. “What's with the excitement?? Heard some good news??" I asked with a blank expression on my face. "Oh Alira?? You are back…you didn't inform me you were coming back today." Alec said. “You haven't answered my question Alec…heard some good news??” "You are acting strange Alira." “Am I??" “Hmm…Anyway I did hear some exciting news but I will share it with you when the time is right.” Alec said. “Our mistress is pregnant right??" I asked with a smile on my face while the smile of Alec's face dropped. "What?? I..I…d..do.. don't understand.” Alec said, stuttering. "You don't understand??? What part of what I just said do you not understand Alec?? The mistress part or the pregnancy part??” I asked. "Both." “Okay, let me carefully explain to you…but before then I have some good news for you." I said as I stood up. "What good news??” "I was at the hospital In the UK yesterday and was told by the doctor that I wouldn't be able to ever carry a child…in other words I can't bear children.” "How is that good news??!!” Alec bit out. "Oh it is for you because that's what you have always wanted.” "Alira…" “No, let me finish….so after hearing the bad news, Betsy called me and informed me that she was pregnant and so I headed straight to her house from the airport to celebrate with her but I heard something very interesting from her and my Mother's conversation.” I said as I began laughing. "Stop acting like a maniac and tell me what you heard!!” "Betsy said she was pregnant for Alec and the only Alec I know of is you.” I said as I gazed intensely at Alec's eyes. At first I saw a shock in his eyes and it was quickly replaced by anger. “That's a bloody lie from the pit of hell!! I am not responsible for her pregnancy!!” "Oh relax Alec..the party's just getting started…I thought that was the most interesting part of their conversation but she said something else that was more interesting…she said when I was pregnant with our child, you asked her to replace my vitamin pills with something else which led to my miscarriage…. very interesting.” “Alira…Alira..listen to me…I can explain.” "Of course you can…so please explain to me Alec because my ears are itching to hear it.” I said with a smile so deadly but full of pains and scars. Alec opened his mouth severally but empty words flew out. “ I just have one question for you Alec." “What??" “Why did you marry me?? Why did you propose to me if you were in love with anyone?? Why??" “I am not in love with Betsy!! I only fell victim to her desperation, Alira..that is the truth.” "Interesting…so you tricked one sister into marriage and the other into being a mistress even while she's married." "Alira…wait…that's not…" “You are free to be with your mistress…I only have one thing to do and that is to report a case of murder to the authorities because you murdered my child and you will pay dearly for it.” I said as I walked out of the room. “Alira…please listen to me!! I swear I didn't mean to hurt you….Alira?? Alira??” I shut down my heart, my head and my ears as I walked down the stairs because I didn't want to hear anything from Alec's mouth. I was halfway down the stairs when I felt it. A presence behind me and then, a shove. Not a stumble and not a mistake but a push by the hands I knew and force I didn’t expect. My balance snapped out from under me as the world tilted violently. I didn’t scream…there wasn’t time. My breath caught somewhere between my throat and my terror. The first impact was thunder, the second, a bolt of white-hot pain up my spine and the third… I didn’t feel. Everything slowed as I felt my body crumple at the base, limbs twisted in angles that didn’t feel like mine. I blinked once, maybe twice. Then… nothing. Only silence and as I welcomed darkeness.ALIRA’S POVDarkness came first..then voices and then memory. Not the kind that arrived gently. The kind that dragged me by the throat back into a moment I had spent every waking day trying not to relive. In the dream, I was back in that house. The old staircase stood before me exactly as I remembered it…wide, polished, elegant, and cursed.Every detail looked painfully real. Then Alec’s voice behind me was sharp and angry.“Stop acting like a maniac and tell me what you heard!! Alira…please listen to me!! I swear I didn't mean to hurt you….Alira?? Alira??” I turned in the dream exactly as I had done that day in my previous life. His face was blurry at first, then clearer. The same face I had once loved enough to die for.The words were unclear now, swallowed by dream haze, but the feeling remained vivid..the anger, the betrayal, the exhaustion. Then I turned toward the stairs.A hand behind me.A sudden force.A shove. My body lurched forward. The terrifying emptiness beneath my fee
ALIRA’S POVMorning arrived with a dull ache behind my eyes and a stronger ache inside my thoughts. For a few seconds after opening my eyes, I forgot Alec was still in my house then I heard movement from the living room as I sat up immediately. The memories of last night returned one after another: his drunken answers, his careless laughter, his body collapsing across my couch while I stood there wondering whether I had learned anything useful at all.I wrapped a robe around myself and stepped out of the room.Alec was already awake. He stood near the couch, one hand pressed to his forehead, the other adjusting his shirt like a man trying to gather his dignity after a bad night. When he saw me, he sat up straight.“Morning.”His voice sounded rough and I folded my arms.“You look terrible.” I said as he gave a tired smile.“I feel worse.”His eyes moved briefly around the room, perhaps trying to remember exactly how the night had ended. Then he cleared his throat.“I should leave.”“S
ALIRA’S POVBy the time I returned home from the hospital, my head felt heavier than my body. The doctor’s words refused to leave me.“The hero in your previous life may become the villain in this one.”That single sentence had followed me all the way home like a shadow.I dropped my handbag on the table and stood still in the middle of the living room, staring at nothing. If I wanted to survive, then I could not afford blind revenge.I needed certainty and needed proof and proof could only come from testing the people around me one after another.Alec was the first name that came into my mind. Not because I trusted him but because he had once stood beside my death wearing concern like borrowed clothing. If he had returned too, then somewhere beneath that calm face would be cracks. And tonight, I intended to find them. The first thing I did was send him a message.“Come over tonight…I cooked.”His reply came almost immediately.“Are you serious?”I stared at the screen before typing b
AlIRA’S POVThe doctor’s question did not register immediately. It just hung in the air like something unreal.I stared at him, certain I had heard wrong. My fingers tightened around the edge of the hospital bed.“What did you say?”The doctor did not look amused. His expression remained calm for someone who had just asked a question capable of stopping my heart. He adjusted the file in his hand and repeated himself slowly.“I asked... How long have you been reborn?”For a second, I forgot how to breathe. The room suddenly felt smaller as everything blurred.I forced out a laugh, though it sounded weak even to my own ears.“I think you’re mistaken.”“I’m not.”“I don’t understand what you mean.”His eyes stayed fixed on mine and that unsettled me more than if he had shouted.Because he looked like a man who already knew the answer.“I came here because I haven’t been feeling well….If this is some kind of joke..”“It isn’t.”He placed the file down gently then he pulled his chair close
BETSY'S POVBy the time I reached my mother’s house, my anger had become hot and poisonous inside my chest.I didn’t knock gently.I pushed the door open and walked in like the house still belonged to me.My mother was seated in the living room, flipping through documents with her glasses low on her nose, looking far too calm for someone whose entire position had just been publicly torn apart. She looked up once then returned her eyes to the papers.“You look terrible,” she said flatly.I dropped my bag on the sofa.“Are you seriously sitting there like nothing happened?”That got her attention as she slowly removed her glasses.“Excuse me?”“Alira!” I snapped. “That’s what happened! She walked into the company like she owned the entire world and embarrassed you in front of everyone!”My mother’s jaw tightened, but she remained silent.I paced the room.“You are way too calm Mother…She had documents!!!! Real documents…Nobody questioned her. Nobody defended you…they all just sat there
ALIRA’S POVPanic would not help me.That was the first thing I told myself when the sun rose the next morning.I sat in the kitchen, holding a warm cup of coffee in both hands, staring at nothing in particular. The house was quiet except for the faint ticking of the wall clock.Someone had broken into my home..someone had sent me a threat and someone knew exactly where I lived.Yet strangely… I wasn’t panicking.Maybe because panic had never saved me before. In my previous life, fear had only made me weak and blind to the real enemies around me.Not this time. This time, I will think carefully, slowly and logically.I took a sip of my coffee and leaned back in the chair.Who would want to attack me?The obvious suspects lined up quickly in my mind.My mother..betsy…Alec..Business enemies from shelving Holdings or someone connected to Alec. But something didn’t feel right. If this was about the company, it was too soon.I had only taken over the position yesterday.Corporate enemies
ALIRA'S POV "Alira, we need to talk!!” I sighed deeply as I rolled my eyes."We have nothing to talk about mother….why are you even here??" “I came to talk about what happened a while ago!!! You had no right to…”"Had no right to do what??? Barge in on your screwing Dad's best friend and busines
ALIRA'S POV "You need to hide, now!!” Liam bit out."Hide where?? I am not hiding anywhere.” I said."Alira, don't be stubborn, hide somewhere!! Even if it's the closest, just do it!!”“But why do I have to hide?? It's not like I did anything wrong??" I said with a smirk as I was obviously enjoyin
ALIRA'S POV “You are awake." A voice said as I snapped my head towards the door.“Liam??" “Were you expecting to see someone else??" He asked.“What am I…I mean how did I get here??" “You don't remember??" He asked.Usually whenever a guy asks a girl if she doesn't remember what had happened bet
ALIRA'S POV“Your nightmare…I am your nightmare." I didn’t expect her to look shocked. Not because I barged into the house uninvited. Not because I caught her in bed with my dead father’s right-hand man...No.She was shocked because I interrupted her perfect little world. Her twisted fantasy where
