LOGINALIRA'S POV
“What the hell was that for??!!" Alec yelled in anger. “Oh goodness, I am so sorry Alec..I thought I saw something creeping up your face…I didn't do that intentionally.” I said. "You saw something creeping up my face and you couldn't just say it with words??” He asked, clearly still angry. "I am sorry babe." I said with a pretentious sad look on my face. “You are acting weird Alira…is everything alright?? Do you not feel well??” Alec asked. "I feel well..am just tired and I had a long day.” "Are you sure Alira??” "Yes Alec.” "Alright, if you say so…anyway come and eat something..the food is ready.” "Alright, I'll be down in a jiffy.” I said. Alec nodded his head, kissed my cheek and walked away. I quickly changed into my clothes and walked downstairs and was surprised to see the table already set. I sat down and Alec served the food but I just kept gazing at the food without eating. “What's going on?? You don't like the food??" Alec asked. “No..it looks good." “And it tastes good too..try it." Alec said with a smile. Just as I was about to take a bite of the food, I suddenly experienced what looked like a daydream or illusion. . . My mouth kept on moving but I had no idea what I was saying and suddenly Alec raised the glass of water in front of him and poured it on me. As he stood up and stormed away in rage, I followed him and kept down while I pleaded with him. . . I snapped back to reality as I gasped in shock as I looked around in confusion. I looked at my body and found out it was still dry and the glass cup of water I saw was still intact in front of Alec. “What was that??" I asked myself. I didn't seem to understand where that memory came from and I didn't remember something like that happening in my previous life. A few minutes after I started eating, Alec stopped eating, cleared his throat and looked at me. “What??" I asked. “You have forgotten??" He asked as the look on his face became serious. “Forgotten what??" “Are you kidding me Alira??? Look if you don't want to help me just come out right with it and say so!!" “Alec, I don't understand what you mean..help you with what??" I asked in confusion. “You said you were going to give me the money I asked for to start up something for myself….you even promised it wouldn't exceed today.” Alec said as I chuckled softly. "Wait, is that the reason why you cooked up a storm??” I asked. “What do you mean by that?? Are you trying to say that I prepared this meal for you just because I wanted something?!" "Isn't that what this looks like Alec??” I asked. "Well you are wrong!!! I did it because I wanted to and not because I was obligated to.” "Well that's great to hear but I am really sad to disappoint you my dearest fiance but I don't have the money you have asked for.” I said as I took another bite of my food. “What?? What did you just say??" “I don't have the money Alec..when I do, I will let you know." I said. Alec suddenly burst into laughter. “Alira, I saw a huge amount of money being transferred to your account a few days ago…so what are you talking about??” "Exactly as you have said Alec…the money was transferred to my account and not yours.. it's my money and not yours and I am not obligated to give anyone from it..besides you are a young and vibrant man…it's hard time you start trying to make your own money and stop being dependent on others.” I said as Alec started looking around in confusion. "Are you talking to me, Alira??" He asked. "Well, if we were three people here, I would have said no but being that we are only two in this table, then yes Alec…I am.talking to you.” Suddenly, Alec grabbed the glass of water on the table and was about to pour it on me when I suddenly remembered the flashback I had a while ago. “Don't you fucking dare!!!" I bit out as Alec stopped midway as a little amount of the water splashed on the table. At that moment, I was angry and confused. Angry with the fact that if I didn't get that flashback, I would have been drenched with water because I didn't want to give my so-called man my own money and I was confused with the fact that I had no idea this particular memory had happened. This could only mean that there were a lot of things that happened in my previous life that I missed and didn't have the memory of and it could be very dangerous for me because I needed to know every detail of my previous life. Alec suddenly dropped the glass cup and stood up abruptly from his seat. “You are such a self centered person Alira…I am your fiance and you can't help the one who's surname you would be carrying soon?? Shame on you.” He said as he turned around and walked away. In my previous life, I remember following him and pleading with him and I also remembered transferring the money I had in my account to him. I chuckled and continued with my meal without moving an inch from where I sat. After I was done eating, I took the dishes and washed them as I went back to my living room and switched on the TV to watch a program. A few minutes later, I got a message notification on my phone but I ignored it as I thought it was from Alec. After a little while, my phone suddenly began ringing and when I checked the caller ID, it was unknown. I was skeptical about picking up the call but I did after a while. “Hello ma'am, I am sorry to disturb you but I've got not so good news from your company." “What?? What happened??" “We just detected that a huge amount of money from your company is about to be transferred to an unknown account in another country and we have tried everything to stop it but it's not working.” "Oh no!!”ALIRA'S POV I ran back outside as quietly as I could, my heart beating like a drum in my ears. After hearing what Alec just said, I didn’t want him to know I had been standing there, listening, hearing the truth.I reached the front door and quickly stepped outside. I gently closed the door behind me, then took two steps backward and pretended I had just arrived. I fixed my face into the perfect mask…soft, innocent, harmless. Then I raised my hand and knocked politely. My heart still ached, but my expression was calm.Alec opened the door almost immediately, His eyes widened in surprise.“Alira? You… you’re here?” he asked.I forced a small smile. “Yes…Can I come in?”He stepped aside. The moment I walked in, he closed the door behind me and gently held my arm, like he was trying to reassure me.“What’s wrong? Are you okay?”Time to act.I took a slow breath and let my eyes water a little. “I actually came to thank you,” I said softly. “For saving me that day… when we were kid
ALIRA'S POV The moment the masked men slammed their guns against the window, my entire body tensed. Alec sat frozen beside me, gripping the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles turned white. The three men outside looked impatient, angry, and dangerous.“Get out!” one of them barked again.Alec looked at me with panic in his eyes.“Alira… just follow what they say…Don’t argue.”We both stepped out of the car slowly. The cold wind brushed my face, but the fear inside me was hotter than fire. Before we could ask any questions, one of the men grabbed Alec by the collar and another wrapped his arm around my waist, throwing me toward the van.“Let go of her!” Alec yelled. He tried to move, but a gun was shoved into his chest.“Shut up.” the kidnapper growled.Within seconds, they pushed the both of us into the back of the van and slammed the door shut. The vehicle started moving immediately, fast and rough, like they were trying to make sure we couldn’t keep track of the directio
ALIRA'S POV For a moment, I couldn’t speak. My mother’s words kept ringing in my head like a terrible echo. All our weddings…On the same day.I opened my mouth to respond, but before my voice could escape, Liam suddenly leaned forward in his chair and spoke first.“With all due respect, ma’am,” he said firmly.“That is not your decision to make.”The room went dead silent. My mother stared at Liam like he had grown horns. “Excuse me?” she asked slowly.Liam didn’t even blink. “As long as you are not the one footing the bills for these weddings,” he continued,“You have no right to decide a date or combine anything.”My mother gasped, scandalized while Betsy jumped to her feet.“Liam!” she snapped. “Don’t talk to my mother like that…Show some respect!”Liam turned his head and looked at her with a coldness I had never seen before.“Watch your words, Betsy,” he said, voice low. “I didn’t disrespect anyone…. I only stated the truth.”“You can’t talk to her like that!” Betsy tried a
ALIRA'S POV “Alira… please,” he whispered again, voice shaky. “Don’t marry Alec.”My mouth fell open. I didn’t know what to say and I didn’t expect this. I didn’t expect him to break like this… for me.Before I could gather myself, I noticed my neighbors’ window curtains shifting. People were already peeping.“Liam, get in,” I said quickly, pulling him inside. “Before someone sees you.”He stepped into my living room as I closed the door and leaned against it. Liam watched me like he was afraid I would disappear.“If you don’t want to get married, that’s fine..you don’t have to but marry a cheat, Alira? A man like Alec?” He took a step closer. “It’s not right.”I forced a small chuckle, shaking my head. If only he knew the truth…If only he knew that my whole plan depended on this marriage. If only he knew that I wasn’t marrying Alec out of love or obedience but revenge. He continued talking, pacing the room like a man who had lost control of his thoughts.“Ever since you showe
ALIRA'S POV The morning felt heavier than usual, like the air itself carried secrets I wasn’t ready to face. I tried to stick to my normal routine..cleaning the kitchen, sorting some documents, preparing tea but even the clinking of the spoon against the cup irritated me. My mind kept drifting back to Liam, to his arms around me, to the intensity in his eyes when he promised to help me.I hated how much comfort I found in him.I hated how natural it felt.I hated… the way my heart seemed to lean toward him without my permission.I shook the thought away and focused on wiping the counter when a sharp, familiar knock echoed through the house. Not again. For a moment, I considered pretending not to be home, but I already knew who it was and avoiding him would only make things worse. With a slow breath, I walked to the door and opened it.Alec stood there, smiling like a man who had accomplished something significant. His shirt was wrinkled, he looked tired, but his eyes carried that
LIAM'S POV The house felt too quiet.Too still.Too full of Alira. After she walked out earlier…eyes red, voice shaking, body trembling from betrayal I had stayed frozen in the middle of the living room long after the door closed behind her.Her scent still lingered on my shirt. Her sobs still echoed in my head.My hands still remembered the way she clung to me like I was the only person keeping her upright. And now…Now I was left with the impossible favor she had asked of me.Give Alec money.Money he’d use to marry her.Every part of me rejected it.My chest tightened every time I imagined handing him a single naira that would push him further into Alira’s life. But then…I remembered her the tone of her voice....broken, trembling, destroyed and her voice when she whispered:“I want him to see exactly what he lost. I want him to feel the regret burn him alive…I want Betsy to choke on it every time she looks at me.”She had never sounded so sure of anything in her life.So I sat th
