~CASSIAN~

The room was quiet, but my mind wasn’t.

It had been hours since Dr. Ishola left, and longer still since Aria walked out of here without looking back. I hadn’t moved much. Just stood at the window, one hand resting on the sill, watching clouds roll across a sky that didn’t care what happened beneath it.

I picked up my phone and called Vaughn.

He answered almost immediately.

“Well, well,” he drawled. “Mr. Wolfe does return calls, eventually.”

“I need you to cancel the press conference.”

A pause. Sharp, then followed by a scoff. “What?”

“I’m serious,” I said, turning away from the window. “Call it off. Make a statement. Whatever it takes.”

Another pause - longer this time.

“Cass, the press conference is in less than twenty-four hours. We already pushed it once after the explosion. We can’t keep rescheduling without people asking questions.”

“I don’t care,” I said flatly. “Just cancel it.”

“What’s going on?” Vaughn asked, the humor in his voice giving way to something steadier.

Dear Readers,As the story deepens, I want to share a small but exciting change. From this point on, you’ll notice the narration will sometimes move from first person to third person. This isn’t a departure from the heart of the story, rather it’s a way to give you a richer view of the world and the people within it.By weaving in third-person moments, I can reveal hidden layers, explore each character’s emotions and motives, and show you scenes our main narrator might never witness. My goal is to make every twist more vivid, every secret more impactful, and every moment more immersive.Thank you for trusting me as I experiment and grow with this journey. I can’t wait for you to experience what’s coming next. With love and endless gratitude,I.C.Evelyn*******The silence in the studio pressed against Sienna’s chest like a fist. Her pulse hammered in her ears, drowning out the faint groans of the men that were sprawled across the floor. The copper tang of blood mingled with fabric dye

~SIENNA~I slid the emerald silk across the table, the fabric catching the lamplight as Aria leaned in, eyes sharp, hungry for details like always. We’d been circling the same question for too long. Whether to use gold or pearl trim for Mrs. Evangeline’s gown and finally when we reached a decision, I sighed in relief as I thought that would be the night’s biggest decision, until Aria looked up at me with that deliberate tone of hers.“Sienna,” she murmured, her fingers brushing the cloth, “what do you think about me changing the studio’s name?”That caught me off guard. I blinked, then grinned. “Changing it?” I tilted my head at her, already liking the idea. “Honestly? That’s perfect. A fresh start. So… when? And what name are we talking about?”Her lips curved into a smug smile. “That part’s a secret for now. You’ll find out soon enough. But I’m thinking Fashion Week. Announcing it onstage would be unforgettable. I don’t know what Cassian will say, but I’ll still try and I know I’ll

~CASSIAN~The city was already changing when we left the safehouse. Daylight was already unspooling into that usual thin, hard-gold hour that sits on the lip of evenings. Headlights bled into amber, shop fronts threw long rectangles across the asphalt, and the air was charged with the same impatient quality it always gets before the world leans into darker things. My phone buzzed against the console. A single-line update from the Wolfe shadows.“She just left a café in the East Quarter. Black sedan waiting. Plates incoming.”The image popped up. It was a grainy, half-cut off image of a woman bending into the passenger seat with a paper bag in her hand. “Keep her in sight,” I said. My voice in the car was calm because I knew how being calm kept others from panicking and this particular job, it didn’t need noise; what it needed was precision.Vaughn glanced sideways at me, his hand idly closing around the grip of his gun as if the motion would steady him. Our convoy threaded through n

~ARIA~The showroom door clicked shut behind us, and both of us slumped into the office like we’d been dragged there. I dropped into my chair with a sigh that rattled through my whole body, while Sienna flopped dramatically onto the couch, one arm flung over her eyes.“Please tell me that was the last client of the day,” she groaned.“Unfortunately,” I muttered, tugging at my shoes like they were enemies, “it was. But also, fortunately, because if she had changed her mind one more time, I would have had to call security. On myself.”Sienna peeked out from under her arm, grinning. “Don’t lie. You were two seconds away from throwing that measuring tape around her neck.”“I was three seconds away from stabbing myself with a pin.” I rubbed my temples. “She came in asking for a mermaid gown, then by the time we finished sketching it, she wanted a ball gown. And then after that, what was it again?”Sienna lifted her head. “A pencil skirt set. With feathers. Don’t forget the feathers.”“Oh m

~CASSIAN~The door shut behind us, but her voice followed me down the hall, clinging like a shadow. Will you be home tonight?I answered honestly saying I don’t think so, but the look in her eyes made me want to take it back. To promise her something I couldn’t. I hated leaving her like that, with nothing but uncertainty. We stepped out into the afternoon glare, Vaughn moving beside me, already speaking low into his phone. I forced myself to focus on the rhythm of our footsteps, and the sound of the city that was muffled by urgency, but Aria’s face stayed lodged in my head. The way her lips parted like she’d almost said more. The way she’d looked at me as though she was waiting for something I didn’t give.I should have kissed her when my eyes dropped to her lips but then I cowardly let it go back to her eyes. The thought sat heavy, a dull ache in my chest. I’d been right there, close enough, and still I pulled back. Maybe it was restraint. Maybe it was fear. Either way, regret stuck

~ARIA~Cassian finally moved away from the doorway, closing the distance between us with an unhurried grace only he could pull off. Then he sat across from me, loosened his tie further, and allowed his shoulders to settle like he was trying to shake off the weight of the world from it.The smell of my half-eaten pie which clung stubbornly to the air got instantly mixed up with a faint trace of his cologne that somehow managed to cut through everything. The fork in my hand hovered over the plate, but my appetite was long gone since the second he sat down. I glanced up at him swiftly then returned my gaze to my desk, then I began shuffling some of the papers that lay on it, pretending they needed sorting. I tried to fill the silence between us but my whole actions felt off.“You look… tired,” I finally said, my voice softer than I meant for it to be, but somehow it felt safer than admitting what I was actually thinking: You look like you’re about to undo me.He gave a quiet laugh, low
