Charlotte

"What? Is she really laughing?"

"Has she gone crazy?"

"Does she think this is a joke?" His sisters and cousins whisper around me in confusion.

I raise my head and meet my husband's shocked gaze. I wipe the bead of tear from the corner of my eye, unable to control the wide smile on my face. "Finally. I thought this day would never come."

"What are you talking about?" He blinks at me. "Are you on drugs right now?"

I laugh some more before I bend and pick the papers. Closing the distance between Kevin and I, I pat his chest to search for a pen. I finally find one inside his suit jacket.

"I thought I would give this marriage a few more weeks before I finally checked out, but the earlier the better I guess." I quickly scribble my name on the dotted line.

He snorts. "Stop pretending to be unaffected by this. This act doesn't suit you, wife."

I raise a brow at him. "That's ex wife to you, Kevin."

"Charlotte, enough of this nonsense!" His mother snaps. "This crazy drama has gone on long enough."

"Actually, it hasn't gone on long enough." I reach behind me and pull out the clip holding my hair up, allowing my hair to tumble down my back in riotous waves. Grinning, I blow a kiss at Kevin. "See ya soon. Or never preferably."

"You'll regret this. You'll be back begging."

I laugh. "For what? All you were was a walking ATM to me. Oh and one more thing, pro tip, all the women you've been with lied to you about you being good in bed."

I turn on my heels and walk away, ignoring their furious orders for me to not dare take another step. I'm done taking orders from the Anders family. Now that my mother has a clean bill of health and I've paid a three year advance for a new apartment, I don't need Kevin anymore.

It was fun to use him for a year and play dutiful wife. But it's time to finally shed the mask.

I jump into a waiting cab outside and dig out my mirror to double coat my lipstick. "Take me to The Wilds." It's the name of the newest club in the city, with a steep entrance f*e that makes it exclusive. It's a good thing I have some cash to burn from my dear ex husband.

As soon as I step into the club, I feel curious eyes on me. In my modest grey dress and kitten heels, I look like I'm headed to a funeral, which makes me stand out.

"Isn't that Kevin Anders wife?" I hear someone whisper.

I pull out my buzzing phone, seeing over thirty missed calls from Kevin and his family. Ugh. I immediately turn off the phone and toss it back into my purse, then head to the bar.

"I want two shots and a margarita. Start a tab for me." I grin sultrily at the bartender.

Behind me, I hear the click of a camera, followed by. "That's definitely Charlotte Anders. What's she doing in a club? Especially this one?"

I toss back my shots, ignoring the whispers and head out to the dance floor with my margarita. I jump into the fray, rolling my hips and letting loose. I raise my glass in a silent toast to freedom and that's when I notice him.

The man's piercing gaze meets me from across the club. He's seated alone in one of the upper VIP suites, clad in all black.

I let my mouth curl into an inviting smile and start rolling my body slowly to the beat of the music, raking my fingers into my hair and seducing him. When someone tries to approach me, I move away, never taking my eyes off the man.

To my disappointment though, he's approached by another man and the two walk away.

I stagger to the bar to order another drink. The bartender passes me a margarita before I can even order.

"You have an admirer." The bartender informs me. "He's the one who sent the drink."

"Who is he?" I ask curiously.

"The boss."

I'm about to enquire further when the conversation at my side reaches me.

"Did you hear that this club is owned by Rhys Van Allen?" One of them asks, voice high with shock.

"What? That's impossible. I thought Rhys was ordered to leave New York ten years ago and never return," the other one says.

A third woman pipes in. "I heard that it was Mrs. Anders who ordered Rhys and his mother to get lost because she was afraid her husband would make his mistress' son his heir."

"That's crazy." One of them gasps. "And now Rhys is back? Why?"

"Who knows? But what I know is that he didn't come back empty handed at all. He's the owner of Vertico."

My eyes widen in shock at the information. Vertico is a billion dollar, real estate company which suddenly rose up from nothing and quickly shot to the top. So many other companies- including my ex husband's- have been trying to get in touch with their CEO for a partnership or investment, but he has remained elusive.

Until now.

"I heard he's here tonight." One of the women squeaks excitedly. "Before the night ends, I'm going to become Mrs. Van Allen."

I turn back to the bartender. "The man who sent me this drink, what's his name?"

"It's Mr. Van Allen that sent it." He says.

I smirk. "And where is my secret admirer currently? I'd like to thank him for this drink." At first, my plan was to quietly disappear from the Ander's life, but it seems the plan has changed.

I'm going to make them pay for every single cruel word, every single laughter and abuse.

I toss my drink back and check my reflection on the polished surface of the bar.

"He's upstairs in the rose room. Just down the hallway, and to the left." The man tells me. "Should I inform him that you'll be joining him?"

"No." I smirk. "It's a surprise."

Charlotte The bistro Mom suggested is one of those trendy places with exposed brick walls, Edison bulbs hanging from the ceiling, and a menu full of words like "artisanal" and "locally sourced."I arrive fifteen minutes early because I hate being late, and also because sitting at home in Rhys's apartment was making me stir-crazy. Every shadow looked like someone watching. Every car that drove by could be Kevin's hired PI.I need to get out of my own head. The hostess seats me at a table near the window where I can see the street. Mom texted that she's running late traffic on the bridge, so I tell the server I'll wait to order."Can I get you something to drink while you wait?" she asks."Just water, please."While I wait, I pull out my phone and scroll mindlessly through emails, messages, anything to occupy my brain. Then I notice a woman sitting alone at the bar, nursing what looks like a gin and tonic. She's striking, late thirties, maybe early forties, with dark hair pulled back i

Rhys"I understand the concern...""Do you?" Richard Abrams, another board member, leans forward. "Because I'm not sure you do, Rhys. This company was built on your reputation for being untouchable. For always being three steps ahead. But right now, it looks like someone else is calling the shots."I force myself to stay calm. "We've had some setbacks, yes. But Vertico is still...""Setbacks?" Margaret's voice rises. "Setbacks are losing one client. Maybe two. This is a systematic dismantling of our client base. And I want to know why."Everyone's looking at me now. Waiting.I could tell them the truth. That my psychotic stepbrother infiltrated the company, fed information to my enemies, sabotaged deals from the inside. That my ex-stepbrother Kevin has made it his life's mission to destroy me.But that sounds like excuses. Like I'm not in control."We've identified internal security issues," I say carefully. "Someone was leaking proprietary information to competitors. We've since term

Charlotte I wake up to sunlight streaming through the curtains and the sound of the shower running. For a moment, I just lie there, staring at the ceiling, my mind immediately going to yesterday. The shower cuts off, and a few minutes later, Rhys emerges in a cloud of steam, a towel wrapped around his waist.I prop myself up on my elbows to watch him move through the bedroom, pulling clothes from his closet. There's something mesmerizing about watching him get ready, the careful, methodical way he does everything.I watch the way the fabric settles on his hips, the way he fastens the belt with practiced efficiency. There's something incredibly intimate about this, not sexual, just... close. Like I'm seeing a side of him the rest of the world doesn't get to see."Big meeting today?" I ask."The biggest. Emergency board meeting." He pulls a crisp white dress shirt from the closet. "We need to address the client losses, figure out our strategy moving forward.""Are you nervous?""Terri

Charlotte "I don't know yet." I meet his eyes. There's something in Rhys's expression, concern mixed with pride, maybe even a little fear."Just... don't do anything reckless," he says."When have I ever been reckless?"He gives me a look."Okay, fair point." I open the car door. "But I'm serious, Rhys. I can't keep living like this. Something has to change."We get in the car and Rhys starts driving back to his apartment. I stare out the window, my mind already working.Fine.Two can play that game."Charlotte." Rhys's voice pulls me from my thoughts. "I know that look. What are you planning?""Nothing yet. Just thinking.""That's what worries me."I glance at him. "You said you trusted me.""I do trust you. I just also know you well enough to know when you're about to do something dangerous.""I'm not going to do anything stupid, Rhys. I promise." I reach over and squeeze his hand. "But I'm also not going to be a sitting duck."We pull into the parking garage of his building, and R

  • THE WRONG BROTHER    Chapter 84

Charlotte We leave the apartment in tense silence. The elevator ride feels too long, the parking garage too exposed. I keep looking over my shoulder, half expecting Kevin to jump out from behind a car.But he's not there. Of course he's not, he's too smart to violate the restraining order so obviously. He'll use proxies, hire people, stay just far enough away to maintain plausible deniability. In the car, I stare out the window, watching the city pass by. Every person on the sidewalk could be working for Kevin. Every car behind us could be following us.Rhys reaches over and takes my hand. I grip it like a lifeline. We pull up to a modern office building in a quiet neighborhood. It's professional but not sterile, there are flower boxes in the windows, trees lining the street.Dr. Lydia's practice is on the third floor."I'll be right here," Rhys tells me as he parks. "Take as long as you need."I nod, then lean over and kiss him. "Thank you. For everything.""Always."I force myself

Charlotte “Taste it,” he says, eyes locked on me.I didn’t hesitate.I took his fingers into my mouth, sucking them deep, tasting myself on his skin.Rhys eyes darkened.“Good girl. I’m gonna fuck you so hard right now.”My legs are parted wide, revealing my pussy in full display. He rubbed the head of his cock against my soaked entrance, sliding through my pussy but never pushing in.I lifted my head, watching him between my legs.“Don’t hold back,” I whispered.“I won’t, Charlotte. You’ll feel it, every inch.”Then he slammed into me.My mouth parted in a silent cry as my pussy stretched around him. He didn’t slow down. He buried himself deep, hard and relentless. His thrusts became harder, rougher and faster.“Jesus… Charlotte… you feel so fucking good,” he says, tightening his grip on my waist as he pounded into my pussy, fast and brutal.Lost in the wild rhythm, he gripped my hips tight, driving harder with every stroke. Then he stopped. He grabbed me and crashed his mouth on my
