LOGINKaelen's POV
The two men walked into the room, their presence filling the space. Hazel and George bowed, greeting, “Alpha King.”“What was it you wanted to inform us about?” Cassien asked.I stood, forcing a smile. “It seemed they were attacked as well,” Riven said, staring at the bandages on Hazel.Hazel and George nodded. “Did you have a good look at it? A weakness or anythinKaelen’s POVThunder clapped in the distance. The rain beat down on the unshaking ground. Every hit was hard and unforgiving. The cold wind was merciless as it weaved through the space.Eight days…It has been eight days. The mansion has been quiet. Maybe because the only time I stepped out of my room was at night or it could be because I was not paying attention to anything. There was barely anything to look forward to anymore.I felt empty. It has been a while since I felt this way. Since I felt like a piece of me was gone. I wanted to ignore it like I always did. But the pain— it took over my being. Whenever I tried to push it away, it came back ten times hotter.I want to feel yet my brain and my body doesn’t seem to register that. All I could see was blood. The life going out of her. I could see my shame. The regret washed over me again and again until it took over my mind.
Kaelen’s POVThe door creaked open behind me.I stayed on my knees, the back of my palms pressed on my thighs. I was coated. Covered in blood. In George’s and Hazel’s blood. All energy was drained out of me. I didn’t have the strength to look at who walked in.A towel was brought from the side. I raised my eyes to Lenal. “You should clean up,” he said.I dropped my head, ignoring the towel to my face. “You knew didn’t you? You should have told me.”He sighed, taking the towel back. “I did.”“You tried to stop me!” I yelled, but my voice dropped the next second. “You didn’t tell me they were going to die. You should have told me they were going to die. I would not have.”I would not have.“I would not have,” I muttered. “I would have stayed back.”“Isn’t it too late for regrets?”He walked over to the bed, tossing the towel to a side. I raised my
Kaelen’s POVI had felt so many warm blood on my skin.I was covered in it right now. It felt rewarding, feeling the blood of rogues on my skin. It meant they were going to die and I made it happen. But right now, the warm blood didn’t feel rewarding. It was a jab to my heart.“George,” I said softly. The rogue pulled his claws out of George and he slummed forward. I caught him, shoving the rogue back. “What are you doing out here?” I asked. He didn’t look good. His eyes were sunken. He looked thinner. I only saw him a day ago and now he looked like he lost everything. He looked up at me, barely able to breath. “I… I’m fine,” he said. “It’ll heal.”He stared up at the rogues, eyes filled with determination. “I’ll protect you, General.”He pulled away from me, joining the fight. He grabbed the sword, fending off every rogue that came near. He kept pushing. His hand remained
Kaelen’s POVThe heavy iron latch clicked and Hazel pushed the door open. Three rogues jumped forward but Hazel was fast. Her strike was merciless over their chest and in one sweep she slit their throats. They dropped to the ground with a thud.“Set them ablaze,” I said. She gave me a quick nod. I didn’t wait a minute longer. I ran past the door and out into the compound. Right into a nightmare. It was a mess. Blood covered the ground mixing with mud and bodies of both rogues and soldiers. Wounded soldiers were more than I could count but they were still standing. Still fighting.I looked around and spotted Sterling. Using two swords, he easily took down four rogues in just two quick strikes. Not far away, Cassien was moving fast, his blade flashing as he fought. Riven fought with wild energy. Asher was covered in blood, ripping their heads off their shoulders as he moved.Every body that reached the
Kaelen’s POVI passed my phone to Hazel, pinching the bridge of my nose. “Is everything okay, my lady?” she asked, worry in her tone.I forced a smile. “Get me some water.”I just informed Mira of the mole. She needed to be careful back there, but now, the question was who was the mole here in the mansion. Roderick did not say it but that information was given while he was locked up.Whichever rank was in the mansion we needed to apprehend that person.Hazel returned with a glass of water and I took a sip, then sat on the bed. Every word that Roderick said replayed in my mind. Then I realized something. They’ve had failed experiments on live victims but…I stood. George!George seemed to be the only, at least walking experiment. He could control it. He said it was a person named Dr. Zeeb helping him. Could this person be working with the enemies? There’s no way they would not have found out about him by now.I dropped the glass rushing for the door. “My lady, where are you going?” Haz
Cassien’s POV It has been a couple of years since we took over. The war took our parents and at the same time we had to step up. It wasn’t a simple task. Calming the storm and letting it remain so. I knew it wasn’t going to be that easy. But…I focused on too little. I thought if we focused on what was important then every other thing would fall into place. Unfortunately, someone saw through that and used it to their advantage. I try to tell myself it was a war. There was no way we could account for all bodies. Our parents' bodies were almost not found if we didn’t persevere. Most families were gone. There was no one to make a report for missing bodies. We noticed the drastic reduction but… It almost felt like I could have prevented whatever was coming. My finger circled my filled glass. I haven’t had a wink of sleep since last night. The door to my office pushed open. I didn’t have to spin around from my chair to know who it was. But he smelt different. Not of dirt or the anno

Kaelen's POV I stayed in the hospital for a week. I felt remotely better after staying bedridden for five days and ready to be discharged, but Sterling wished I stayed longer. He opened the door of his car for me. Hazel and I stepped in. We rode in silence until we got to his mansion by nightfall.
Kaelen's POVThe walk back to the car would be unfavourable to us. From their footsteps, they were ready for an ambush on that path. Corvina must have set this up. I wasn't sure why. There was only one place we could try to evade them. It was dangerous, but they were not as much over there. “Go!” I
Kaelen's POVBy noon the next day, the papers had arrived and were sent to Merrick. I waited for his reaction, but I got nothing. Two hours in and Corvina barged and threw the divorce papers at me.“Signed,” she said with a smug look.Hazel picked it up and went through before giving me a small nod.
