The memories were like a haze and it hurt just thinking about it.“My lady!” Hazel rushed into the room in panic. She held me close, guiding me back to bed. I kept trying to make sense of what Lenal told me. Was I wrong in what I saw? “Are you okay, my lady?” Hazel asked. “I should get Lenal before he gets far.”She tried to rush off but I held her back. I shook my head. “I’m fine,” I said.My gaze found the wooden craft on the bed. Hazel brought it to me on spotting my fixation. The more I looked, the more I knew I had seen it somewhere. And for some reason, I felt it was important.I hated I could not remember what it was. It nudged something in my heart but wasn’t clear enough to realize. Hours later, I found myself back in the dense forest. It felt thicker than it was the previ
Kaelen’s POVDrawing my breath, I sat up, panting. I swallowed hard, unsure of where I was. Slowly, the person seated beside me came to view. His gaze rested lazily to the side with his head slightly tilted in my direction. He held his walking stick calmly exuding a calm aura even though he was dressed in ragged clothes. But I couldn’t shake off the fear in me. For a moment, the room I laid in was unfamiliar.“You’re awake,” the voice didn’t come from Lenal.Asher took a seat on the bed, eyes glimmering with worry. “Are you okay?” he asked, cupping my face.I didn’t respond. “How is she?” he asked Lenal.“Let me,” Lenal said, opening his palm.I placed my hand on it before he checked my pulse. He hummed, nodding. “She is fine,” he said.“Why did she pass out?” Asher asked.“She must have stayed in the cold for too long,” he said, turning to me. “You might be
Kaelen's POV The cold gnawed at my skin. It wasn't until I was surrounded by thick trees did I realize I was not properly dressed to take on the night’s cold.My silk night dress was barely enough to protect me. Despite the cold, I didn't stop. Neither did George. I tried as much as I could to blend his steps with mine, moving close enough to the trees to keep me hidden whenever he turned. As we pushed deeper into the woods, the trees became thinner and taller with the cold becoming insufferable. I kept trying to keep it together, rubbing my arms to warm myself up.George stopped abruptly. I froze, swiftly stepping behind a tree. I pressed my back on the tree as silence followed. My ears stood to pick up any sound. A sharp, stinging prick hit the side of my neck. I hissed, slapping the insect off me. It was louder than I anticipated. I went still, waiting to hear George figure out where I was. But there was
Kaelen’s POV“My lady,” Hazel bowed.“Find out what’s going on,” I said, my gaze glued to the men who walked away. They wore troubled expressions and that look towards me earlier didn’t sit right with me. My walk to the balcony was quiet. I could tell something had happened but I didn’t know what it might be.Even though rumours from the servants weren’t meant to be used as a source for information, I could only bank on that. However, they seemed to be silenced by something.Hazel left and returned soon after. “Did you find anything?” I asked. She darted her eyes around before stepping closer, whispering what she found out in my ear. I nodded at the information. “Any idea where George is?” I asked.“His room,” she replied. “I walked past there on my way here. To be sure,” she said.“Did he leave earlier?” I asked.“He was part of the guards on patrol last nig

Not until I crossed my safe line.Secret? She wanted me. Or so I tell myself but everytime I looked into those eyes, it seemed I was fooling myself. Every time she looked at me, it seemed I could see annoyance hidden in them. And I couldn't stop it from hurting. “I didn't care,” I told myself. However, I couldn’t stop myself from holding her chin, only able to have better control of my thumb, itching to touch those lips. Once. Just once and this delusion would be over. That was my fucking secret.
Kaelen's POV The two men walked into the room, their presence filling the space. Hazel and George bowed, greeting, “Alpha King.”“What was it you wanted to inform us about?” Cassien asked.I stood, forcing a smile. “It seemed they were attacked as well,” Riven said, staring at the bandages on Hazel.Hazel and George nodded. “Did you have a good look at it? A weakness or anything to track it with?” Riven asked. They gave me a glance before shaking their heads. “I was more focused on running away from it. I didn't see it properly,” Hazel said with her head lowered. They turned to George. He seemed unable to speak. “We asked a question,” Cassien said, annoyed by George’s silence.I stepped forward. “He didn't see the rogue. When he found Hazel, she was alone,” I said.
