LOGINKaelen’s POV
The cold steel of a blade hissed through the air, coming straight for my blind spot. I didn't think. I pivoted sharply on my heel, dropping low to scoop up my spear. With a swift, powerful twist of my wrists, I smacked the oncoming sword to the side, sending a jarring vibration up my arms.
"You're insane," I snapped, glaring at him through the sheets of rain.
Sterling didn't even flinch. A dark, reckless amusement played at the corners of his mouth. "In
Kaelen’s POVNessa stared at me with a shocked expression before shifting into a smile. “General, you’re back,” she said, walking over.“I thought I told you to knock before coming in,” Riven said.Nessa waved her hands. “I was just excited to share the goodnews. Forgot.”Cassien was back to his usual unreadable self, but the look in his eyes could kill. Riven gave that glare a face and Asher seemed irritated. “Why are you here?” I asked. My mind skipped through a thousand possibilities but most of it, I did not like. “Oh, I moved in,” Nessa said, plopping into a seat.“She moved in?” I glanced at the men who only realized what was going through my head when that question left my lips.“It’s not like that,” Asher quickly said.“So why did she move in?”Nessa laughed, her hand to her stomach as she rocked back and forth. “That look on your face is priceless,” she said.Cassien cleared his throat and almost instantly her laughter died. “Fine, I’ll stop messing with you,” Nessa said. “I
Kaelen’s POVThe next day, I made a decision. I joined them in the kitchen trying to make snacks. All three men had their aprons stained with flour, staring at the oven. I exhaled, catching their attention. “Kaelen, hope we didn’t disturb you?” Asher asked. He tried to touch me but realized his hand was soiled so he pulled back. “How’s everything going?” I asked, glancing at the island. On it were two trays filled with… I don’t know what it is. “Well, the first one,” Riven picked one off the tray. It was dark brown and hard. He didn’t need to explain. The answers were as clear as day.“Let’s move to the second,” Cassien said and tried to take out one from the second tray.It couldn’t.The bottom stayed glued to the tray while the middle dragged along the further he pulled. Cassien grabbed a pair of scissors and snapped it short. “Try it.” He brought it to my lips.I took a bite and the surgery taste hit me in an instant. “How is it?” Riven asked. “I made it.”“I can tell,” I said, my
Ashton’s POVI can’t sleep!I haven’t slept for more than two hours in the last five months. I was losing it. I didn’t want to admit it and I wouldn’t but here I was. In Kaelen’s home, still unable to sleep. My wolf was a pain in the neck.I thought I always had him under control but it seemed with his mate, I was too weak. I tried to hold back for months and somehow I still found myself here. I tossed and turned in bed until I decided to go on a walk. And somehow I found myself on a beachside. At a distance, I spotted her. “You led me here, didn’t you?” I scolded my wolf who only growled in agreement. And here I thought I had this under control. Then again, I couldn’t stop watching her. She swung the sword through the air — side, up and down. Her body moved like fluid, easing into every strike she made, still I could tell that she was being careful.Every now and then she adjusted the loop around her wrist. It seemed she did not want it getting off. She looked so relaxed, yet rigid.
Kaelen’s POVThe kettle whistled on the stove just as four men trooped into the kitchen. “Tea?” I asked, shutting the stove. They watched me with cautious looks before nodding. I took out four glasses, with one of them bigger than the rest. I poured in a spoon of tealeaves into each glass, added a generous amount of hot water, before including what they needed differently. They each had their preferences. Cassien: More tea than milk. Riven: Three spoons of sugar —he had a sweet tooth which was surprising when I got to know about it. Asher: No sugar but generous milk. I handed each to their owners then grabbed mine before heading for the door.“What about mine?” Ashton asked, glancing at the tea in my hands.“This is mine. If you want yours, help yourself,” I said then headed out.A few steps away I heard him complain. “Seriously? She would just ignore me? She could just have made me one.”“Go back home,” Asher chimed.I heard Riven’s voice as I walked further away but I didn’t catch h
Cassien’s POV“How did it go?”Twirling the drink in my glass, I leaned back into my chair as Riven gave a reply to Asher. “Horrible but we held them down. Not sure how much they would remain that way.”Asher grabbed his drink from the table. “Those old men sure know how to work on my nerves.”For months now, the elders have tilted away from the war to finding the right match for my brothers and I. We’ve been in seat for years now and we’ve not introduced anyone. My subtle hint last time only made them agitated which introduced the rumours.Unfortunately, the rumours got to them and they were not pleased. It only worsened when they realized we were not always at the palace but here with Kaelen. “I’m surprised they didn’t try to set us up with someone again,” Asher said.“They would think twice before doing that. After all, the last one…” Brother glared at me. “Didn’t exactly pan out well.”“Still holding a grudge?” I grinned. He looked away. “No, but I don’t like how you disposed of t
Kaelen’s POVI opened my eyes to Riven seated beside me, a smile to his face as he watched the last fog of sleep pass through. “You’re back,” I said, groggy.“We just returned. Thought to keep you company,” he said.I tried to sit up but realized I was naked underneath. I gasped, quickly pulling the covers to my chin. Riven leaned in with a grin. “Shy?”My face felt hot under his gaze. I shook my head. “I’m not. I just… don’t want you to see me naked,” I stammered.“Why?”He was messing with me. He laughed pulling away. “I’ll leave you to freshen up. I’ll be back.” He winked before rising.Only after the soft click of the door shutting close did I let the quilt go. I quickly had my bath but when I stepped out of the bathroom, Riven was standing, waiting. He noticed me behind him and turned around.“Let me help,” he said. Before I could say no, he already had the towel in his hands guiding me to the vanity. He helped dry my hair. “You’re getting better at this,” I said.“Have to,” he s
Kaelen's POVThe walk back to the car would be unfavourable to us. From their footsteps, they were ready for an ambush on that path. Corvina must have set this up. I wasn't sure why. There was only one place we could try to evade them. It was dangerous, but they were not as much over there. “Go!” I
Kaelen's POVBy noon the next day, the papers had arrived and were sent to Merrick. I waited for his reaction, but I got nothing. Two hours in and Corvina barged and threw the divorce papers at me.“Signed,” she said with a smug look.Hazel picked it up and went through before giving me a small nod.
Kaelen's POVWithin a few hours, I was ready to take another vow with Merrick.“Welcome, Luna Kaelen,” the announcer said and the large doors opened.Merrick was seated on stage, his gaze locked on mine. With a smile and my shoulders held high, I walked through the crowd, ignoring the sneers I could
Kaelen's POVMy chest tightened, my breath grew louder, raspy and forced, but my legs kept going. Sweat dripped down my face, blocking my sight. I swiped it off with the back of my palm without stopping.I knew what was coming. I could sense it. My hairs stood. My heart raced. My blood pumping. My e
