Chapter 2.

" Who are you?" He asks.

How can he ask me that, doesn't he remember who I am?

No, ofcourse not. He must have long forgotten me. I'm pretty sure that 2 years ago, he wiped me off his memory and his life, the moment he literally threw me out of his house and called me all sorts of names.

Not to mention those words that left me scarred for quite some time. At his sight then, I was gum under his shoes, the same that brought a problem, one he demanded I get rid off but I couldn't, because it was life.

I didn't have the strength and the courage, to end a life, no matter the situation.

So no, it's better I be a stranger now then remind him, of the trash he considered to have thrown out of his house.'

" I asked you a question, who are you?" He repeats, this time frowning.

" Just a stranger." I say, pulling back my arm and rushing off.

The longer I create distance, the more it gets hard to hold back the tears. It's only when I get out of view, do I let a tear to slip down my face.

I watch her pace up and down infront of me. She hasn't said anything after I had told her everything about my afternoon at the park.

I could see her eyes widening in shock, when I mentioned him.

" I can't believe you saw him."

" Yeah, me too."

She stops pacing and faces me.

" Are you okay, like really okay?"

" Yeah, I am." I nod, giving her a small smile.

I don't really know if I am but I'll stick to what I've just said. I don't want her to worry about me.

" Do you think he's thinking about you right now?"

I scoff. " Why would he?.....I'm no one to him."

" You were holding his baby." She reminds me.

" I still can't believe he has one, a very beautiful child indeed."

' No, what you want to say is, you can't believe he decided to give a chance to this one.' My consciousness says.

Lucia comes over to sit beside me, now joining me.

" Well I bet he's forgotten the encounter he had with you and you should to, right?"

" Right." I nod in agreement.

" Besides, I bet today was only one encounter that will not repeat itself. So you have nothing to worry about, this is Seattle, I doubt you'll run into him again."

I hope so.......

" Now lets focus on your interview for tomorrow. You need to look like a bombshell and knock them dead." I smile, despite the inkling after effects of this afternoon.

I push all thoughts surrounding this at the back of my mind, I tell myself to focus on tomorrow and acing the interview, so I can scratch my name off the unemployed list.

Outfit after outfit Lucia throws at me and before I know it, I tackle her to the ground and demand that she stops. When Lucia gets into focus mode, she turns into a machine and I can definetly say, by the end of the night, I was beyond exhausted.

She literally made me wary of certain colours and trying out certain clothes, because of the comments she was making. It was nothing belittling or harsh, just comparisons of people I didn't even know and I felt like I did. I passed through looking like a church girl to a nun until I finally, made it to boss lady.

I couldn't help but laugh when she said one of the outfits I wore, were pretty much illegal for an interview and she just wasn't ready to become an aunt yet. Apparently, I looked way too delicious for the interviewer to really interview me, but he would probably try by all means to get into my pants.

I sometimes don't know where she comes up with the stuff she says, seriously.

After finally getting my outfit ready, we spent time really catching up and stuffing ourselves with junk food, before Charlie came to fetch her. It was such a funny scene to watch, when he literally picked her up and threw her over his shoulder as she playfully resisted going along with him. She was complaining about him not giving her attention anymore.

I pretty much rolled my eyes when a big smile made its way onto her face, as she was carried away.

Being left alone again and not wanting to let my mind, take me back to other forbidden thoughts, I took a much needed shower, had a bowl of noodles for supper, prayed and went to bed.

It wasn't before long, that I was succumbed to dreamland.

Tears streamed down my face as he gave me one of the most disgusted looks, no one has ever given me.  I felt dirty and cheap, just by him looking at me like that.

I was on the floor, so small, while he toward over me, like a giant.

I thought I was doing the right thing by coming here and telling him of the life, I was carrying. But I was wrong, so wrong.

" Now you listen to me and listen to me good, you'd better take your sorry ass and that thing, you claim is mine out of here. This better be the last time you show your filthy self here or else I will end you.

You already are nothing more then gum under my shoe. And if you so much as breathe my way or utter a word about this to anyone, I will destroy you and everything around you. I'm not playing with you."

I opened and closed my mouth, but words were stuck in my throat. I was too scared to speak and I feared that I might make things worse, then they already were.

He definetly wasn't like the same man, who whispered sweetnothings into my ear and held me tight, throughout the night.

He was someone entirely different.

" Get out of here!!" I jumped in fright.

I watched him turn and walk back inside the house, only to stop by the door.

" Oh and why don't you do yourself a favour and just end that thing. That would be the smartest thing an idiot like you, could ever be capable of doing right in your life, instead of jumping into bed with every man that smiles at you, just like an everyday wh***"

He entered the house and slammed the door.

And I was left with the deepest cut in my heart.

                         *******

I huff in frustration because I can't decide on how to leave my hair. I am aware that it wont be long till I am running behind time.

I squint my eyes and really take my whole face in. I mean I've got everything down, with my dark highwaisted pants and white blouse, along with red heels, natural make-up with nude coloured lips.

Knowing that I have to get going right now, I decide to put my hair in an updo, just a simple ponytail. I give myself another look over, confessing that I will make an impression.

I feel relief when I see Jackson, Lucia's cousin already waiting for me. Jackson was surely my first ever crush when we were kids and I still think he is goodlooking, but that crush is gone now. I mean I'm not daydreaming about him, my mind and heart had set him free.

We chat along the way and he motivates me, telling me that I've got this and how proud he is, that I finally stood up to Mr Sanders. When we finally arrive at Cullen and Co Industries, I say goodbye to him amd head on inside.

"Hello, how may I help you?" One of the ladies at the front desk asks, because there's two ladies seated behind a desk.

" Hi, I'm here for an interview."

" Oh, the Personal Assistant position. Alright, name please."

" Skylar Grey."

She types on her computer for a few minutes before she glances at me.

Once she finds my name, she directs me on which floor to go to, where the interviews are being held.

" Hold the lift please!" Someone calls out, just as the doors were closing.

I hold out my hand in time and the doors open again.

" Thank you."

Imagine my surprise when that girl from yesterday at the park, I think her name is Cicily, she enters inside the elevator with Ava, who doesn't look like a happy baby right now.

" You!" We both say at the same time.

The doors close and we start moving.

" You know, you almost got me into a whole lot of trouble yesterday." She says.

" And there would be more then trouble, if I told her father yesterday of the kind of nanny you are."

" Like you could actually do a better job." She scoffs.

" You'd be surprised." I say, rolling my eyes. " A thank you would be nice but no, you're not the kind to appreciate help when given."

" I -"

The sudden weird shaking of the elevator cuts her off.

" Give me Ava!" I demand and she, being surprised by my sudden change in attitude, hands her over to me.

I back into a corner and hold on tight to Ava. Cicily follows my movements and stares wide eyed at me.

" Sky - Sky." I stare down at Ava in surprise, that she actually called me by my name. Well the name I told her to call my by.

But how does she remember me?

Doesn't matter, she's a smart kid.

" Yes, it's Sky -Sky, we're flying....Woooo." I rock slightly side to side, despite the shaking of the elevator.

She giggles, staring up at me.

Gosh, she is so cute....

The rocking finally stops but then the lights suddenly switch off.

" Great, the lift is stuck." I say sarcastically.

I feel around my body until I pull out my cellphone and switch on my torch, when I hear Ava whining. The lights switching off surely took her by surprise.

" Lats!!" She says happily, though she says it wrong.

But because it's her, it's sounds cute.

Maybe I might reason everything for being cute just because Ava said it or did something.

" Yes, lights Ava."

Cicily turns on her light and atleast it gets a little brighter around us.

" And they call themselves millionairs, but they can't even fix a bloody elevator." I hear Cicily say, well more like talk to herself.

Someone's annoyed.

" Yeah and I'm officially late for my interview." I sigh, totally agreeing with her on this.

" You're here for an interview?" She asks.

The surprise in her tone makes me frown a little.

" Yeah...." I trail off.

" I thought you already work here."

I can't help the smile that takes over my face.

" Really? - I mean I do look the part right?" I ask, wiggling my brows.

She rolls her eyes. " Sure and like Ava's mom."

The smile slips off my face.

" W-what?"

Her phone suddenly rings and she answers, ignoring me.

" Hello Mr Davies. Yes, we're currently stuck in the lift. Yes, she's okay." She says, glancing at Ava, who's busy touching my face.

I pretend to try and bite her fingers, this makes her giggle as she pulls her hands away from me.

I continue doing this just to keep her distracted.

" Yes sir, bye."

" Why don't we sit down Ava, hmm?....These shoes are killing my feet." I say, kicking off my shoes and sitting down on the floor with her.

I readjust her on my lap until she's seated comfortably. I make sure to position my phone nicely on my bag before I start playing games with her, just to keep her distracted.

" It's getting hot isn't it?" Cicily says and I glance at her.

I see her fanning her face.

" Yeah, it is." I say, feeling hot myself.

I start getting worried about Ava when she starts touching her face, I can spot bids of sweat on her face.

" Please pass me her bag." I say to Cicily.

She throws it at me and I roll my eyes.

" Sorry." She grumbles.

" I feel so much better, thanks." I say sarcastically.

I start taking out things from her bag, looking for something she can change into, because what she's wearing now is not doing her a favour against the heat.

" What are you doing?" She asks and I look at her weirdly.

" Uh, looking for a change of clothes for Ava. It's hot in here, it's best that she wears something cool." I say, continuing with taking things out.

"Why isn't there anything else packed in here?....You know what, it's fine, we'll just take these off huh Ava?" I mumble, taking off her clothes and shoes and leaving her in her nappies.

I take an extra nappie and start fanning her, creating some cool air for her. I smile in amusement when she starts jumping on my lap.

I think she appreciates the clothes being off right now.

When I feel us being watched, I glance up at Cicily, who's silently watching us. She wears a strange look on her face.

" What is it?"

She shakes her head, snapping out of her staring.

" You look so natural doing that."

" What?" I feel Ava lay her head against my chest.

" That, you know, looking after Ava. It looks so motherly almost, it's - "

The lights switch on and Ava's head picks up.

" Lats!!!" Ava says as she rocks back and forth, her hands clapping in excitement.

" Yes lights Ava. We'll get out of here soon." I say, kissing her forehead.

The elevator starts moving and I sigh in relief.

Cicily comes over and starts helping me put Ava's stuff back in her bag.

" Thank you for helping me with her, even if it'll be for the last time."

" What do you mean?" I ask curiously.

The doors suddenly open before she can answer me. I rise up to my feet with her, making sure to hold her tight against me.

" Ava!!" We hear a voice call out urgently.

I see quite a number of people crowded outside the lift, two people stand on each end of the doors so that the doors wont close.

A man enters into the lift and reaches out to take Ava from my arms, but I take a step back, shielding her from the man.

" Woah, who are you?"

He frowns at me.

" I'm her -"

" Daddy!" Ava reaches out her arms to the man, who raises his brow at me.

Wait, if he's Ava's father, then what about -

" Excuse me, can I have my daughter now?"

" Oh uh yes, sorry....." I hand Ava to the man, still slightly confused.

I thought that man is her father, but I guess I was wrong.

" Excuse me mam, could you please get out of the elevator please." The maintenance man says.

" Y-yes sorry."

" Don't you have an interview to get to?" Cicily says in passing, following Ava and her father.

My eyes widen.

Oh my gosh, the interview!!!

I quickly grab my shoes and bag before rushing out of the elevator.

" Mam your -"

" Yes, yes, I'm welcome. Thanks!!" I wave over my shoulder, having no time to chat.

I rush over to the front desk, almost crashing into the lady on the other side.

" Hi, uh sorry sorry.....I'm here for -"

" You're here for the interview right?"

" Yes, yes."

" Sorry mam but interviews are now over."

" No, no...I was actually early but then the lift got stuck, so it's particularly not my fault you see!" I say desperately, wanting her to believe me.

" I'm sorry mam but they are already over and - sorry mam, you can't go in there!" She calls after me when I rush over to where I believe the interviews are being held.

A lady who looked like she just got out of an interview just came out of that room, so it's pretty convincing if you ask me.

I pull at the door but it doesn't open, so in frustration I cause the door to jiggle. A yelp slips out of me when the door suddenly opens from the other side, with so much force that my body launches forward.

Instead of landing face first, I land on my knees with my bag and shoes splattered all around me.

I groan out, feeling a sprain on one of wrists.

Oh gosh, this is so embarassing. Could this day get any worse?

Black shiny shoes step into my view and I tense up.

My eyes trail up the person's frame until my head is tilted far back, since the person is a giant standing before me.

If I thought my body had tensed up before, it has now gone rigid because of who stands towering over me.

It's him again.

That man.

My eyes widen in realization that I was actually here to be interviewed by him.

He is Mr Cullen.

No, no, no....
