chapter 2

“Your credit card bills are long overdue. You're going to have to pay up your debt or we'll have the law involved." The cashier at the bank told her.

She had gone shopping for a few clothes and was really excited to check out when the store attendant told her that her card had been declined. Sarah had been shocked and had pressured her into trying the card three more times.

After seeing that it was indeed useless, she gathered whatever confidence she had left and collected her car back before walking out of the store.

She wasn't surprised that she had run out of money. Any and every penny she had went into the house and furnished it to make sure that it was to her taste.

Her knack for classy and expensive things hadn't left her and she made sure that her house just looked like perfection.

“There will be no need for that. I'll pay you as soon as I'm able to. I promise." She quickly dismissed the talk of involving the police and stood up from the chair so the next person would come in.

Money, she needed money and lots of money. The last thing she wanted in her record was a police charge and she didn't think it would be doing her a lot of good.

On the ride home, her mind was filled with thoughts of work. She would start applying for jobs as soon as possible and she was sure she would be very lucky.

Her records were perfect and she had graduated top of her class with no setbacks. She had made sure that nothing distracted her in her pursuit for excellence although it hadn't been easy with all those guys coming on to her.

It was like they threw themselves on her and didn't care what she did with them as long as they got laid. Her roommates had thought that she was being stupid for turning each and everyone of them down including the hot guys from the football team.

She knew what she wanted and guys weren't a part of that. She knew that her sacrifice would pay off and right now, it was going to.

Her CV was ready and she looked at the list of companies that she would like to work with and jotted them down.

One of these companies would have to accept her and she can finally get her life back on track. She got down from the car and walked to her apartment.

The doorman gave her a half hearted smile as she waved at him and walked past. His eyes followed her as she made her way to the elevator and he smiled inwardly.

There was something about her that he liked. Maybe it was the fact that she was the only lady that dressed modestly in this building, or the fact that she was a very beautiful lady..

He had thought of several days to approach her, to talk to her, but everytime he just thought against it and stayed out. He didn't know how she would react to that and the last thing he wanted was embarrassment.

He knew that if she didn't enjoy the way he was coming on to her, she would report him to the management.

Sarah stood at the doorway as she entered her apartment. She had always been a perfectionist and she didn't like it when things didn't go according to plan.

She walked to the window and looked out, looking over the busy streets of the city. Her eyes went down to the homeless man she had seen at the side walk on her way up and she looked at him for a few moments.

Her legs immediately took control of themselves and took her into the kitchen. She packed some leftover food from last night into a plate and took it downstairs for him.

The smile that graced his face when she gave him the food was enough to make her day and it did. He thanked her over and over again as she walked away.

These little good deeds hadn't always been a part of her. In fact, there was even this time when a lady had told her she had a heart worse than the devil.

It seemed like after the incident, she was doing all this good to make up for what happened even though she knew nothing would ever make things right.

She knew that feeding the homeless and performing some random acts of kindness here and there wasn't going to make up for the past but she did it anyway.

At least, to relieve her conscience .

She opened her laptop to begin searching for the companies that she had jotted down earlier and only a few of them were looking for employees.

Surprisingly, Tinders Corp was also part of them and she couldn't believe her eyes. Tinder was the richest company in the country and they were looking for a worker.

She was sure that so many people had applied for the job but she wouldn't give up. She also applied for the job and smiled, feeling relieved that very soon, she would start working for a big company and earning money.

Her eyes darted to the side and she saw a couple of envelopes on the table. She pushed away the newspapers and dug them out from the pile.

It was a bill from the electricity company and she'd be lying if she said she wasn't confused. Sarah had only been living here for a couple of days so she wasn't able to get all this light within those days.

Besides, she was almost never at home so this wasn't possible. She grabbed the bills and stormed over to the landlady's house.

She was an old woman who couldn't remember what anyone said in the last two seconds.

“Good morning, Mrs Nox. I found these on my table and I don't think they are for me. "

She stretched her hand out and looked through it.

“Nah, these are for your apartment.

“But I just moved in a couple of days ago.*

She scoffed. “It doesn't matter. The person who lived here before didn't pay the bill so it's your problem now*

She couldn't believe my ears.

“Are you serious? I can't pay this much!."

She just shrugged and walked back into her house, leaving me standing there.

Sarah felt like screaming at the top of her lungs.
