“I don't care. Do it again. I hate it." Dan threw the designs for the new company project across the room in anger.
They had been going at it for three hours and no one had come up with anything worth seeing.“For God's sake, the final meeting is next week. We have nothing to present to the investors. All these designs are horrible and I can't even look at them and neither would the investors." He could see the tired looks on his employees faces and he knew they were out of it and won't contribute so much to this anymore. He was tired himself. He had stayed up all night trying to do his own job and had come here straight in the morning hoping to put ideas together with what his employees had to offer.Apparently, it wasn't much.“Sir, we are designing based on the ideas and instructions you have given us. I believe none of us went outside this."Dan was shaking his head before she even finished the sentence. Of course, he wasn't blind. He could see that they had inculcated his ideas into their drawings but it just wasn't enough for him.He took a deep breath and placed his hands in his pockets.“Okay, take these drawings back. Do something about them, improve them. I can't even stand how they look and I'm sure the investors wouldn't. Bring me back something better. Meeting dismissed."Relief washed over everyone's face and they quickly got out of their seats and scurried away.“Sarah, come to my office with your work. I saw something I liked." Dan hadn't been looking at her when he said and walked out of the room else he would have seen the massive grin that broke out on her face.As soon as Dan was out of sight, she picked up her work and rushed to the bathroom excited. She turned to the mirror and fixed her hair and makeup. She wanted to look sexy for Dan.Maybe a short skirt would even give her more advantage. She pulled her skirt up and straightened it out. When she was satisfied with her look, she hurried out of the room so she wouldn't keep him waiting. As she walked down the corridor, she popped open two of her blouse buttons letting her cleavage run deep. Her knock was light but precise and when he answered, she pushed the glass doors and the butterflies on her belly won't just calm down.“Sir, you asked to see me." She walked closer to his table and Dan hadn't raised his head up to look at her.“Yes, set it down on the table, let's see." Sarah moved closer to him and set the paper down.Dan hesitantly looked away from his laptop and down at the paper. He studied it for some minutes before picking up a pencil.“Remove this, it's not supposed to be here. Straighten this building out, it seems crooked and the grass looks bleached." There were a lot of other things that were wrong with the drawing but Dan was too busy to point them out now. This was the reason she was a professional. She should be able to point out her own mistakes.“That's all for now. You can go." He quickly dismissed her so he could go back to work. For some reason, he momentarily lifted up his head and caught a glimpse of her breasts that were almost spilling out of her blouse as she bent down.He let out a loud sigh and rested back in his chair.“I run a company and not a strip club. If you feel it is okay for you to go around dressing like that, then I'm going to ask you to get out."The way he said the words effortlessly and the way his eyes stayed focused on her face and never drifted to her breasts was what marveled her.She stood speechless in front of him until he gestured with his hand for her to get out. As she quickly scurried away, he shook his head with disgust and turned back to his work.He had always been like this, never finding interest in women who threw themselves at him. He just didn't fancy the idea of sleeping around and his cousin and mainly every other guy around him was crazy. Some even thought he was gay. However, he didn't care what anyone thought. Those were his standards and he was going to stick to them.It was not like these women weren't beautiful. It was just that he never found any one of them attractive in the very least. Thankfully, he has also never been bothered by sex since that had never happened before. These women were only with him because of his money, because of what he looked like now. A decade ago, they would have made fun of him and treated him like a child or an outcast. They would never have taken him seriously if he came within three feet of them. He had suffered that greatly in high school. He had been the nerd, the geeky kid that had no friends aside from his science buddies. He has greatly envied his cousin, Micheal who had been on the school football team and was the captain. He has many friends and a lot of very pretty girls are always around him.He got invited to a lot of parties and whenever he got into a fight, he always had people to defend him. He was very handsome and everybody wanted to be his friend. That was the contrast of Dan's life. Growing up, he had been chubby and he never thought it was a problem until he got to high school. The kids weren't nice like back in elementary school, he noticed so the only option was to blend in and even that wasn't easy..He was made fun of, pushed from side to side, bullied, insulted. Some even called him Dan the Bull.He had his fair share of suffering but nothing was more intense than Senior Year.Dan threw his blazer on the couch and plopped down on it. Fatigue and frustration were a mild way to explain what he was feeling. Work hadn't exactly been the best and he didn't know how to deal with it. His mother came down from the stairs and smiled when she saw him. She walked over to him and sat on the arm rest.He noticed her presence but didn't acknowledge it because he was too tired to move, to speak. He had to, however, when she spoke up first.“Hey. I knew I heard your car come in. How was work? " He slowly opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling. His entire body felt numb, weak to move. He let out a sigh before answering.“Hey mum. I am okay, work was okay. How're you?" He said it like a rehearsed response and Celia could see that he was in no mood to talk but she didn't stop.“I'm okay. Just waiting for you to get back from work. We need to talk." Nate frowned and lifted his head to look at his mother. “What's going on? Are you okay?" Celia could sense the look of co
She was pretty, he had to give her that. Beautiful even. But she was not his type. She gave him a sweet smile when she noticed his presence in front of her but she just responded with a straight face.“Hey, I'm Belinda. You must be Dan." She stretched her hand out and Dan just stared at it, trying to contemplate on whether to take it or not. "Well, no shit Sherlock." He thought. He knew he couldn't be rude to her because that information would get back to his mother and the last thing he wanted was for her to serve him another one of her three hour long lectures. He took her hand and offered her a forced smile. “Yeah, I'm Dan. You must be Belinda." Two can play this game.Belinda chuckled.“Very funny. So you want to order?" “No. I already told my mother I wasn't hungry but she forced me out here with you so I thought she'd tell you already."Dan wondered why his brain kept telling him to be careful with the way he was speaking to her but he didn't listen. The words just kept c
Dan got home dumbfounded; he couldn’t believe what he just saw.“Was that really Sarah?” he thought. He went straight to his room, trying to avoid his mom’s questions about the date.He stormed and laid flat on the bed, looking up at the ceiling.“She hasn’t changed a bit.” He thought of how stunning she looked earlier. A spark of hatred triggered Dan’s anger; he couldn’t stop himself from thinking about what happened in high school. She did worse things than what others did to him. He wanted a normal high school life.Middle school went well for him, as did the excitement to get into the high school world, to get taller, to make new friends, and also to meet and like girls. Sarah sucked the excitement out with one glance. She never looked at anyone twice, and if she did, it would be to belittle the person. She was the queen in high school, and he was the bull that was also a trash dump. His first day in school would have turned out differently if Sarah was not the first person he met
The unexpected encounter with Dan took Sarah by surprise. She had thought it might happen later, but not so soon.Sarah got to her front door; how she got there with loads of thoughts without a bus hitting her on her way after she met Dan was a mystery. She took her house keys from her bag and inserted them in the keyhole, unable to find the keyhole because she was lost in thoughts. The key slipped, jolting her back to reality. It fell to the floor beside a small, brown flower vase she had never seen before, accompanied by a note. She retrieved the key and the note. She read the note.“For her royal Majesty, Congratulations on the new place.” She turned the note to check who it was from, but there was no indication of who it was from. She picked it up and assumed it was either a mistake or one of her admirers. Sarah’s beauty always attracted men and, most of all, lots of gifts. If she wanted, she could date any of them and leach off their money.Depending on another person’s money w
The blind date was the talk of the house. Belinda couldn’t stop talking about it with Anna, her mother. She fell for Dan at first sight. The date was not their first meeting. They had earlier met at his company during one of her quests to find an investor and also a designer to help out with her new project. She met him on the elevator. He was probably on the phone with his girlfriend or someone he loved, because the way he smiled while on the phone caught Belinda off guard, and she had fallen since then. She hated her mom for fixing dates and forcing them on her; she had initially wanted to make the date a disaster and make the man running home furious, but when she saw it was Dan, her plans changed. From making the blind date a disaster to making it a success, She did a quick online search on Dan and also texted her mom in the middle of the date to get all the information she needed to impress him.To her, it was the best date ever because she met Dan and confirmed two things. He wa
“Did you fire that stripper like I asked?” Dan asked while walking to the elevator at Tinder’s Corp. and his secretary, Michael, who also happened to be his cousin.“Yes, I did.” Michael affirmed. They got to the elevator.“What is taking the background search so long?” Dan’s frustration was evident. The suspense and curiosity kept him wondering and impatient. He wanted to know everything about her and how he could use the information to his advantage.“Sarah Thompson’s information is rather hard to get; she’s been off social media and…” Michael lied.“You didn’t do anything about it, did you?” Dan interrupted; he caught on to Michael’s lie. He knew his cousin was often unreliable when it came to office tasks, but his mother had insisted he give him a chance at Tinder’s Corp.“Don’t worry, I will find her myself.” The elevator door began to close when he caught a glimpse of someone who resembled Sarah through the narrow opening left for the elevator to close. He tried to stop the e
It’s Sarah’s second day at work, and her number one goal of the day was to do everything she could to avoid Dan.She couldn’t get a good night’s sleep; she kept on thinking about how to approach Dan and finally apologize, especially now that he’s her boss and he can decide to fire her.The thought of getting fired alone got her scared. She needed the job, and kneeling before Dan to ask for forgiveness was nothing. She truly regretted all she did in the past. Although she barely remembered what happened, She got into an accident on graduation day in high school that made her lose part of her memory.According to the doctor, it’s her subconscious mind that’s trying to hide something as a defense against something. She didn’t really understand all the medical jargon he said back then. For her mind to do such a thing, she figured a part of her hated what she did and wanted a new life. And she was going to get forgiveness at all costs, but till then, he was going to stay clear of Dan.Sar
Dan has been on a business trip to Canada with Michael for weeks now. The house was empty, leaving only Celia at home. The loneliness was killing her; she wanted company. She was bored and missed her son and nephew. The urge to do something to kill the boredom began, so she went on a shopping spree and then on lunch dates with some of her friends. In one of the conversations she had with her friends at their previous lunch,One of her friends, Martha, kept bragging.“My son’s wedding would be the talk of not only the state but the country. We plan on having it on for a week; the first day would be a welcome dinner at a scenic outdoor venue for all our guests; the second day would be rehearsal dinner; and the…” Celia cut in.“Oh, that would be lovely, but when is this wedding?” Celia asked; she knew she was lying. Her son was recently rumored to be gay, a rumor that she started when she saw them kissing at one of the bars her cousin owned.“Well, some time this year.” Martha said, avoi
