VELARA’S POV

The woman raised an eyebrow, a hint of skepticism in her tone. “You come from a powerful bloodline, don’t you? So why aren’t you with your mate?”

I swallowed the lump rising in my throat, forcing myself to speak the truth I’d been carrying like a stone in my chest. “He didn’t recognize me. Before I could even tell him about our son, he had me thrown off pack lands.”

She studied me quietly, then asked, “And what about your family?”

The question hit harder than I expected. I hesitated, lips parting but no words came. Silence stretched between us until she gave a single knowing nod.

“My parents believed I was just some rogue tramp too,” she said quietly, a trace of bitterness woven through her words. “Life has a strange way of repeating itself, doesn’t it?”

I blinked at her, surprised by the admission. Something about her honesty sparked a connection. “So... you have a child too?” I asked, instinctively feeling the invisible thread between us.

“Had one,” she said, her voice

VELARA'S POV“I hope I didn’t interrupt anything,” I said softly as I stepped into the room, eyes apologetic as I watched her.Lilith simply shook her head and gave me a reassuring smile. “You don’t need to explain yourself, sweetheart. I’ve been in your shoes. I understand.” She looked around the worn-out room and sighed. “I would’ve offered you a better space if I had one left, but this is the best of what remains. The building’s falling apart faster than I can fix it.”Before I could respond, a soft cry stirred from the bundle on the mattress. Kael’s little body twisted under the blanket, fussing gently.I moved to go to him, but Lilith was already bending over, scooping him up with practiced hands. “Go on and get changed,” she said, glancing at me with a fond smile. “I’ll take care of this handsome little guy for a while. Isn’t that right, sugar? Auntie Lilith just loves cuddling babies.” She nuzzled her nose against his chubby cheek, her voice melodic with affection. “Go ahead. W

  • TO DENY A LUNA   CHAPTER 24: THE QUIET THAT KNOWS MY NAME

VELARA'S POVThe small room welcomes us with its quiet stillness as I gently settle Kael down. His little body trembles from the chill, so I decide against giving him a proper bath. Instead, I take a clean cloth, soak it in warm water, and tenderly wipe him down. The room may be modest, but I make sure the warmth I provide him feels like the safest place on earth. After I’ve cleaned him and wrapped him in soft blankets, I cradle him for a while until his breathing evens out and sleep claims him. Watching him sleep gives me a brief, fragile moment of peace.Once he’s tucked in and resting soundly, I retreat to the bathroom, aching for relief. I step into the shower and let the scalding water cascade down my back. It’s the hottest shower I’ve taken in a long while, and I need it more than I care to admit. I close my eyes and press my palms against the cold tiles, trying desperately to wash away the memories of last night.Last night, where everything came crashing down around me.I saw

  • TO DENY A LUNA   CHAPTER 23: EYES LIKE ME

DAMON'S POV“I believe it would be best if you left. Immediately.”“What? Why?” She questioned.“Get the fuck out now!”The words thundered from my mouth before I even thought to temper them, laced with the full weight of my Alpha presence. The red-haired girl flinched visibly, as if slapped, then scrambled upright. With shaking hands, she yanked the rumpled dress over her head and clutched her shoes against her chest. Her bare feet slapped the floor as she stormed toward the exit. As she passed Dante, she delivered a sharp shove to his shoulder, more wounded pride than aggression. Then the door slammed behind her, sealing the room in awkward silence.I grabbed my keys from the cluttered top of the dresser and prayed I hadn’t totaled my car again last night. My memory was patchy, blotted with too much alcohol and too little reason.“You’re not getting behind the wheel,” Dante said firmly, eyeing me with concern. “You still look half-wasted. Let’s move fast. Maybe she went back to her c

  • TO DENY A LUNA   CHAPTER 22: ASHES OF THE MORNING

DAMON'S POVThe sunlight is merciless. It pierces through the blinds and burns against the back of my eyelids, stirring me from the shallow remnants of sleep. My skull is pounding, each throb a cruel echo of last night’s mistakes. I can barely summon the will to lift my head when the bedroom door flies open with a deafening bang, the doorknob smashing into the wall hard enough to shake the frame. I groan, dragging a hand over my face as I sit up.Dante storms in like a thundercloud, voice annoyingly chipper. “Perfect. You’re awake.”I squint at him, irritated. My temples throb harder. “What the hell, Dante?” I mutter, waving a dismissive hand in his direction, hoping he takes the hint and walks out.He doesn’t.Instead, he lounges against the wall next to my dresser, arms crossed and brows drawn together. His posture is too casual, which makes me wary.“What do you want?” I ask, my voice rough, my patience already on a knife’s edge.I glance around the room, only to freeze when I noti

  • TO DENY A LUNA   CHAPTER 20: ONE NIGHT OF SHELTER

VELARA’S POVWith my son cradled in my arms, I settle into the backseat of the taxi, the vinyl seat creaking beneath us as the driver pulls away from the curb. I press my cheek gently against my son's forehead, his tiny body warming mine. The city rolls past the rain-streaked windows, every light and shadow bleeding into each other from the storm. We glide past a dilapidated hotel, its once-white walls now grayed with mold and time. I mentally note its location. I might just have enough gas to reach it if needed.I cling to that hope. After enduring the cold night outdoors, soaked and exhausted, all I can think about is getting clean and warm again. A hot shower. A bite of something comforting. A place with a roof, even if the roof leaks and the walls are paper-thin. I don’t need luxury. Just safety. Just one night where I can rest without flinching at every noise. One night, I whisper silently, and then I’ll find a way. I have to.As the taxi slows near the train station, I hand over

  • TO DENY A LUNA   CHAPTER 19: STORMGLASS HEART

VELARA’S POVI never imagined shame could have deeper layers, that it could sink so low inside me and still find a way to crush what little dignity I had left. But there I was, pressed up against the cold glass window, my breath fogging up the pane as a sudden crack of thunder split the heavy sky. The sound startled him awake, his small body stirring inside. My heart clenched with a mix of sorrow and helplessness. I could hear the slow footsteps of my father retreating down the hallway, the soft echo of his departure marking the distance growing between us.My mother, after a pause, drew the curtain aside just enough to peer in. Then she settled herself on the couch, cradling my son close in her arms. I stood outside, staring through the wet window, aching with a fierce longing to reach him, to soothe away the chill and the fear I knew he must be feeling. But even though it tore at me, I understood that this was the safest place for him,F warm, dry, and protected from the storm outsid

  • TO DENY A LUNA   CHAPTER 18: FIRST SHIFT

VELARA'S POVRain poured relentlessly, each drop a cold reminder of the night’s harshness. The chill seeped through my clothes, soaking every fiber until my shirt clung to my skin like a second layer of water. I stood in the courtyard, alone but not really. My mother’s voice, tender yet urgent, came through the glass of the window, cracking slightly with emotion.“Shift, Velara,” she urged quietly, eyes pleading from the dimly lit room. “Please, I can’t bear to see you suffer out here like this.”Her words struck a chord deep inside me, stirring a mixture of resolve and dread. I swallowed hard, trying to steady my trembling limbs. You can do this, I whispered into the night’s heavy air, my voice barely audible even to myself. This was far from the dream I had imagined as a child. I hadn’t pictured my first shift unfolding beneath a bleak sky, soaked and shivering, instead of amid laughter and celebration. But dreams had abandoned me long ago. Now, it was just me, stripped down to bare

  • TO DENY A LUNA   CHAPTER 17: CRADLING HOPE

VELARA'S POVThe moment my father barged into the room, his fierce gaze locked onto me like a predator spotting its prey. The air thickened with tension, and from deep within his chest, a guttural growl tore free, raw and menacing. I shrank back instinctively, curling protectively around my son, cradling him close to my chest as if my arms could shield him from the storm that was about to erupt. Astrid, ever the shield between us, stepped forward without hesitation, planting herself firmly in front of me as though her very presence could repel my father’s rage. But his fury was merciless. With a forceful shove, he threw Astrid aside like a mere obstacle, and without breaking his stride, he advanced toward me.“Dad, please,” my voice trembled, barely more than a desperate whisper laced with terror. “Please, don’t-”Before I could finish, his fingers snapped through the air and seized a handful of my hair. Pain exploded at my scalp, sharp and stinging as if fire licked my skin. A scream
