The coffee cup slips from my fingers. It hits the floor with a dull thud, brown liquid spreading across the polished tiles.
"Sera?"
Adrian's voice cuts through the noise of the coffee shop. His eyes are wide, his mouth slightly open.
My heart pounds against my ribs. "Adrian."
The sunglasses perched on my nose suddenly feel useless. I should have stayed home. I should have told my boss to get his own damn coffee. But no, he insisted this place makes the best lattes in the city, and since he's related to Wendy somehow, I couldn't exactly refuse. We've gotten closer over the past few weeks. Close enough that saying no feels awkward.
A flash goes off to my left.
