I couldn’t move.
It was as though my legs were rooted to the spot as I watched Olivia immediately bend down to Kenny’s level, ruffling his hair.
Kenny’s giggles were like needles pricking at my skin.
“Hello dear, buddy.” She greeted him, warmly, “Enjoying your snack?”
Kenny nodded. “I love… love it. Aunt Olivia is the best.”
Those were innocent words, yet they did the most damage.
It was as though Benny understood what was happening, she took my hand and gave it a light squeeze.
Maria, Matt’s mom, took that chance. She also bent to Kenny’s level, her lips wide with a smile.
But I could see the mischief in her eyes, clearly whatever she wanted to do wasn’t going to be good.
“Do you like your Aunt Olivia?” She asked, caressing Kenny’s little cheeks.
Kenny giggled again. “I love Aunt Olivia. She is pretty and kind. She is also a great cook.”
I swallowed hard, turning away slightly, my heart racing.
Kenny used to praise my cooking so much. But now, he seemed to have fallen in love with Olivia’s cooking.
Was her cooking that great?
“That is good, grandma loves her too.”
Olivia blushed, looking down shyly.
I looked around for Matt, but he and his father were missing. It seemed they must have gone to see the doctor.
But does him being here change anything at all?
Of course not.
“Kenny, baby, what do you think about making Olivia your new mommy?” Maria asked softly.
My heart stopped.
Benny rushed forward. “Aunt, you… you are going too far.” She exclaimed.
Maria shot her a glare, enough to silence her.
Olivia’s eyes widened for a second, then she gracefully looked away, smiling lightly.
“Aunty, you can’t say that… that is not right.” She mussed, but she was clearly enjoying this drama.
Maria smiled at her. “Come on, child, you are back now. You love birds deserve a chance at love.”
My hands began trembling again, tears threatening to fall. But I couldn’t let it.
Not in front of them.
I fought to stay composed.
Olivia blushed and said nothing.
Maria turned back to Kenny. “What do you say, son?”
Kenny thought for a while and said, “But Grandma, I already have a mommy.”
For a moment, I thought there was hope, one I could cling to… but it faded just as fast.
Maria scoffed. “What about making Olivia your second mommy then?”
This time, Kenny didn’t respond, but he was clearly thinking deeply about it.
Will that make dad keep eating with us?” he suddenly asked.
Maria nodded instantly. “Of course, my little moon, daddy will always be with you and your second mommy.”
I couldn’t take it anymore, I rushed toward them, grabbed Kenny and left with him.
My heart was pounding so hard against my ribcage. I kept walking fast, trying to get as far away from them as possible.
“Tyla, slow down. You are hurting Kenny.” Benny’s voice suddenly called out after me.
I stopped, and only then did I look down.
Kenny had been running to keep up with my pace the whole time, his face looked exhausted.
“I’m sorry, baby. Are you hurt?” I whispered, my voice shaking.
He shook his head calmly. “Mommy, are you okay? You look… sad.”
The tears betrayed me then. They began rushing down my cheek.
“Mommy?”
I pulled him into a hug, my body shaking as I sobbed against his little shoulder.
Benny had followed us out. She stood in a corner, watching us with concern.
After calming down a little, I looked at Kenny’s now sad eyes.
“Baby, will you leave with mommy?” I asked, my voice weak.
He looked confused. “Where are you going, mommy?”
I swallowed hard. “Far, far away from all these.”
For a moment, he didn’t respond.
Then after a while, he asked gently.
“Are Daddy and Aunt Olivia coming too?”
I froze.
“Olivia?”
He nodded. “Are they coming?”
My throat worked, but no words left my lips. I stared at my little son, who bore every resemblance to Matt himself.
“No, son. Just you and I.”
But then, Matt looked a bit concerned. Then he said, softly, scratching his head.
“Can I not go, Mommy. Can I stay with dad and Aunt Olivia till you get back? Then we can be one happy family.”
A sound left my mouth, it sounded like a small cry, and yet like a laugh of disbelief.
Benny rushed forward, helping me up.
“Tyla, he is just a child. He doesn’t know what he is saying. Please, don’t hold it against him.”
I didn’t respond.
Of course, I couldn’t hold it against him.
He was my son.
I went through a lot to bare him.
How could I truly be angry at him?
But I had to make a choice, one that truly involves my happiness.
I forced a smile to my lips. “Thank you for always standing up for me, Benny. But I can’t continue like this?”
Kenny had been one of the reasons I had held on… he had been my solace in the midst of all the pains and hate.
Yet, even he seems to be slipping away from my hold.
Benny took the chance to lead Kenny out, probably to talk some sense into him.
But I didn’t follow, I stood there rethinking all my life choices.
Just then, Olivia showed up. She walked gracefully to where a stood.
With the smile on her face, it was clear she must have overheard the conversation.
“Oh dear, aren’t you pathetic?” She whispered with exaggerated care. “You’ve put in so much care in this family, yet… I don’t have to do anything, and everyone chose me.”
I didn’t respond, I had already turned away. But then, I stopped short.
“You should really try winning, without stealing it first,” I whispered.
But I wanted to leave. She suddenly grabbed my arm, stopping me.
“Where are you going? I am not done with you yet.”
But instead, I pushed her away.
Just then, I heard Matt’s voice as he ran up to her.
“Tyla, are you crazy? Do you want her to lose her baby?”
My heart stopped and so did my body.
She was pregnant.
Olivia was carrying Matt’s child.
This time around, I hurried out of the place, my body trembling as I ran far away from the hospital.
Then I called the number, the one I had been hesitating to call.
“I’m coming to pick up the divorce papers.”
~Tyla~After Cassian left the room, my mind went completely blank.I stood there staring at the closed office door, unable to say a single word.My heart was still beating fast and the feeling of his hand against my cheek felt like it had just been imprinted.I couldn't believe how close I had just come to completely losing my sanity.Vivian stood near the entrance. She was still dazed. The shock on her face was so vivid it was almost comical, but I couldn't bring myself to laugh. She cleared her throat loudly, crossing her arms as she took some steps to my desk."So..." she began, her voice dropping into a teasing tone as she raised an eyebrow at me.“Care to tell me what exactly was going on between the two of you just now?""There was nothing going on," I mumbled quickly, trying to gather the papers scattered on my desk to look busy.My hands were still trembling slightly."He was just talking about the new business partnership. We were discussing the Aegis database."Vivian let ou
~TylaI sat at the boardroom table, my heart pounding as I stared at Cassian standing at the front of the room.Seeing him walk through those doors was shocking enough, but the words that came out of his mouth left me frozen.Just moments ago, the board members had been ready to throw me out. Now, they were smiling, nodding, and praising the opportunity in front of them.A partnership with Virell Group was worth millions, and they couldn't hide their excitement. But unlike everyone else in the room, I wasn't happy. When the meeting ended, I quickly stood up.I grabbed my tablet and then walked straight for the door without looking back.As I passed Cassian, I could feel his eyes on me.He tried to catch my gaze, but I kept my head down and walked right past him.I hurried through the glass hallway and stepped into my office. The moment the door closed behind me, I let out a long breath I hadn't realised I was holding.Finally...I thought I had a few minutes to pull myself together bu
~Tyla~I finally arrived at the office. My entire body was screaming for rest but my mind knew I had a lot of things to do and resting now was a luxury I couldn't afford. And again, I needed to bury myself in work to forget the memories of Linda and Cassian from last night. Not like I care but it was disgusting to think about. Before I could even take off my coat, Vincent rushed into my private office. His face was pale, and he was holding his laptop tightly against his chest.I could tell from his expression that something had gone wrong.“Tyla, you’re back,” Vincent said with relief as he quickly closed the door behind him. “You need to hear this. The police went to Olivia’s apartment to arrest her. ”I paused, my fingers freezing on the buttons of my jacket. “And? Did they arrest her?”“No.” Vincent shook his head in frustration.“Somehow, she found out about the arrest warrant before the police even got to her building. She packed a bag and escaped just in time. She’s officially o
~Cassian~My head felt like it was splitting entirely in half.I opened my eyes and immediately, a bright light stashed through the curtain.I reached out blindly toward the nightstand, my fingers searching for my phone.I blinked away the blurriness to read the time flashing on the screen. It was 10:00 AM.I sat up slowly. Every single muscle in my body was aching.I rarely ever drank, but last night was a complete disaster.I had met up with my old college friends, intending to have just one drink to clear my mind, before the entire evening spiraled completely out of control.Somewhere around 11pm, Linda had joined the group.Because I was completely out of it and practically unable to walk straight, she was the one who had taken charge and driven me back to the mansion instead of my friends. There was a knock on my door.A young maid stepped into the master suite, her face completely pale. Her eyes glued tightly to the floor when she stood before me."Good morning, Mr. Virell," she
~Tyla~I didn't sleep for a single second.Every time I closed my eyes, the image of Linda wrapping her arms around Cassian's neck flashed behind my eyelids. The memory of the maid's words about the loud noises coming from the master wing felt like ice blocks released in my veins.I had started to trust Cassian over the past few days, but that trust shattered the moment I saw what happened. He came home drunk, bringing another woman with him after convincing me to stay for a few days.He did it while his daughter, who clearly couldn’t stand the woman, was in the house. And worst of all, the woman he brought home was his ex-wife’s sister.I lay in the bed, staring at the ceiling, forcing myself to face reality.I couldn't stop asking myself why I was even bothered. Why did it hurt so much?Cassian was the billionaire our company was dying to collaborate with. And I was just here to teach his daughter to open her heart.Who he slept with, or how he spent his nights, was absolutely none
~Tyla~After the conversation with Cassian, I went back to the guest room and decided to take a thorough bath.By the time I finally stepped out of the bathroom and changed into a fresh set of clothes, a young maid was already waiting for me in the bedroom. She had brought up a large tray filled with fresh, warm food.I sat down at the small table by the window and ate.Shortly after I finished eating, a knock came on the door, and Dr. Collins stepped inside to check on me one last time.He took my pulse, checked my temperature, and nodded with a satisfied smile. He confirmed that my vital signs were completely normal and said my sudden collapse was the result of accumulated stress. He advised me to get plenty of proper rest.He packed his stethoscope back into his medical bag, gave me a polite nod, and left the room. But the moment the doctor closed the door behind him, I noticed how unusually quiet the entire mansion felt.I walked around the large guest room, looking out into the e
~TYLA~Cassian. An arrogant tyrant. That was exactly what he was.I hadn't cared about his deal when he had shown no interest before in that gala. But now that he had finally decided to show up, after we had come all the way here, he thought he could just disregard us?Like I hadn't spent the entir
~TYLA~I stared at the papers that the lawyer handed me.“Are you sure about this?” he asked gently. This time around, I nodded. And without a second thought, I signed them. After that, I handed the papers back to him, and he looked through them again.“Did you include Kenny’s custody there?” I ask
~TYLA~The doctors reassured us that it was a minor scratch, and grandma had been very lucky.Only then did my fast-beating heart slow down, and I began noticing those around me.The entire Wilson family was gathered in the ward, including Matt’s two cousins, Josh and Benny.“Mother, you cannot kee
~TYLA~I knew that my marriage was beyond saving, yet I dressed up beautifully again tonight… hoping he would at least look at me without disgust in his eyes.Yet, when he strolled past the door, reeking of sweat and alcohol, he still had a look of disgust on his face.I rushed toward him to help h
