I stared at the papers that the lawyer handed me.
“Are you sure about this?” he asked gently.
This time around, I nodded. And without a second thought, I signed them.
After that, I handed the papers back to him, and he looked through them again.
“Did you include Kenny’s custody there?” I asked, only to be sure.
He nodded. “Yes I did. But it’s clear that Wilsons may be unwilling to let you take him.”
For a moment, I replayed all that happened in the hospital, my heart tightening at every turn.
Yet, I forced a smile.
“Do your best, please. I will not abandon my son.”
He nodded, standing to shake my hand. “I will deliver the documents myself.”
I smiled. “Thank you, Philip. I appreciate it.”
For a moment, Philip paused. It was clear he had something else to say.
“Go on, Philip… what is it?”
He smiled then. “Well, I was wondering if you were ready to start again. I am still managing the properties, and they are already making a fortune… but, of course, I have also been investing the profits.”
I smiled at him. “Of course. I am back now.”
He nodded. “Then, I will reach out to the others and tell them you are back. As you may know, Kresten has been managing the tech company… I’m sure he would be glad to hear you are ready to take over.”
I nodded. “Thank you for your help, Philip. I’m sorry it took so long.”
He shook his head, laughing lightly. “We are glad to have you back, Tyla.”
When I arrived home, everywhere was quiet… the kind of calm that had a way of sending shivers down your spine.
The maids came out to greet me, led by the head maid.
“Welcome back, Madam.”
But the irony of it.
All I could think about was how they dutifully served Olivia this morning.
Even in their hearts, I was clearly a replacement… and they were ever ready to serve the next shinning Lady brought into the family.
I smiled at them.
Even at that, I had nothing against them, they were clearly doing their job.
“Is anyone home?” I asked gently, making my way up the stairs.
“Madam, only the young master is home.”
For a moment, I faltered. Kenny was back alone.
But I didn’t let that ruin my plan. I nodded at her and continued up the stairs.
The house felt unbearably cold, not physically, but psychologically.
It was as though every corner of it was calling at me to leave, just like it did every single day… and yet, I had tried to keep it warm, hoping that one day it would accept me as part of it.
But this time, I wasn’t waiting around to be chosen, or loved.
I am choosing myself.
I headed straight to my room, not even stopping at Matt’s door like I used to, or peeping into Kenny’s to see if he was up.
My things were very small, a testament of the kind of life I led here.
No gifts, no fancy clothes the wife of a wealthy man was mostly with.
The few clothes and other accessories were the ones I brought for myself. Most of them were short or revealing.
I laughed at myself.
All this I had done just to get him to look at me twice.
But he never did.
Even Kenny's birth had been an accident… one that happened because his grandma led me to drug him on our wedding night.
One of the reasons why he despises me till date.
I took the whole revealing clothes and called the head maid.
“Burn them all… do not leave even one behind.” I told her.
She looked stunned at first, but she bowed anyway.
“Right away, Madam.”
With that, I shut my door, and resumed packing.
Having burned the clothes, I had only a little left. But I felt better, a lot better.
I packed up everything of mine, leaving behind everything else that wasn’t.
Then I rolled my suitcase out of the room.
I didn’t stop to look around, or to try to memorize this place.
Because I was sure I wouldn’t miss it.
And it won’t miss me either.
However, as I headed toward the staircase, I stopped short in front of Kenny’s room.
Even though my brain warned me against it. I couldn’t stop myself from wanting to see him.
One more look. He was my son anyway. The only one I would regret leaving behind.
At least until I had full custody of him.
But the moment I lightly opened the door, I froze.
Kenny wasn’t asleep. He was on his bed, making a call on his tablet.
But the moment he whispered the name, I frowned.
“Aunt Olivia, would you buy me more snacks when you come next time? Mom doesn’t let me eat snacks.”
The next moment, he giggled, kicking his feet in his excitement.
My hold on his doorknob tightened slightly.
I wanted so bad to pull him into a tight hug for the last time.
I wanted to tell him everything.
But i knew he wouldn’t understand... he was still a child.
I forced a smile, before lightly and closing his door again.
After that, I placed my hand on his door, taking a deep breath to calm my racing heart.
“Be a good boy for mommy, Kenny. I love you.”
Hesitating only for a brief moment, I turned and left, pulling my almost empty bag away.
The maids didn’t ask where I was going, but I was sure they were wondering.
As I left the house, I spotted the smoke going up into the air.
The clothes have been burned… just like my past.
I smiled again, and this time, I left the house… leaving even the car behind.
~Tyla~After Cassian left the room, my mind went completely blank.I stood there staring at the closed office door, unable to say a single word.My heart was still beating fast and the feeling of his hand against my cheek felt like it had just been imprinted.I couldn't believe how close I had just come to completely losing my sanity.Vivian stood near the entrance. She was still dazed. The shock on her face was so vivid it was almost comical, but I couldn't bring myself to laugh. She cleared her throat loudly, crossing her arms as she took some steps to my desk."So..." she began, her voice dropping into a teasing tone as she raised an eyebrow at me.“Care to tell me what exactly was going on between the two of you just now?""There was nothing going on," I mumbled quickly, trying to gather the papers scattered on my desk to look busy.My hands were still trembling slightly."He was just talking about the new business partnership. We were discussing the Aegis database."Vivian let ou
~TylaI sat at the boardroom table, my heart pounding as I stared at Cassian standing at the front of the room.Seeing him walk through those doors was shocking enough, but the words that came out of his mouth left me frozen.Just moments ago, the board members had been ready to throw me out. Now, they were smiling, nodding, and praising the opportunity in front of them.A partnership with Virell Group was worth millions, and they couldn't hide their excitement. But unlike everyone else in the room, I wasn't happy. When the meeting ended, I quickly stood up.I grabbed my tablet and then walked straight for the door without looking back.As I passed Cassian, I could feel his eyes on me.He tried to catch my gaze, but I kept my head down and walked right past him.I hurried through the glass hallway and stepped into my office. The moment the door closed behind me, I let out a long breath I hadn't realised I was holding.Finally...I thought I had a few minutes to pull myself together bu
~Tyla~I finally arrived at the office. My entire body was screaming for rest but my mind knew I had a lot of things to do and resting now was a luxury I couldn't afford. And again, I needed to bury myself in work to forget the memories of Linda and Cassian from last night. Not like I care but it was disgusting to think about. Before I could even take off my coat, Vincent rushed into my private office. His face was pale, and he was holding his laptop tightly against his chest.I could tell from his expression that something had gone wrong.“Tyla, you’re back,” Vincent said with relief as he quickly closed the door behind him. “You need to hear this. The police went to Olivia’s apartment to arrest her. ”I paused, my fingers freezing on the buttons of my jacket. “And? Did they arrest her?”“No.” Vincent shook his head in frustration.“Somehow, she found out about the arrest warrant before the police even got to her building. She packed a bag and escaped just in time. She’s officially o
~Cassian~My head felt like it was splitting entirely in half.I opened my eyes and immediately, a bright light stashed through the curtain.I reached out blindly toward the nightstand, my fingers searching for my phone.I blinked away the blurriness to read the time flashing on the screen. It was 10:00 AM.I sat up slowly. Every single muscle in my body was aching.I rarely ever drank, but last night was a complete disaster.I had met up with my old college friends, intending to have just one drink to clear my mind, before the entire evening spiraled completely out of control.Somewhere around 11pm, Linda had joined the group.Because I was completely out of it and practically unable to walk straight, she was the one who had taken charge and driven me back to the mansion instead of my friends. There was a knock on my door.A young maid stepped into the master suite, her face completely pale. Her eyes glued tightly to the floor when she stood before me."Good morning, Mr. Virell," she
~Tyla~I didn't sleep for a single second.Every time I closed my eyes, the image of Linda wrapping her arms around Cassian's neck flashed behind my eyelids. The memory of the maid's words about the loud noises coming from the master wing felt like ice blocks released in my veins.I had started to trust Cassian over the past few days, but that trust shattered the moment I saw what happened. He came home drunk, bringing another woman with him after convincing me to stay for a few days.He did it while his daughter, who clearly couldn’t stand the woman, was in the house. And worst of all, the woman he brought home was his ex-wife’s sister.I lay in the bed, staring at the ceiling, forcing myself to face reality.I couldn't stop asking myself why I was even bothered. Why did it hurt so much?Cassian was the billionaire our company was dying to collaborate with. And I was just here to teach his daughter to open her heart.Who he slept with, or how he spent his nights, was absolutely none
~Tyla~After the conversation with Cassian, I went back to the guest room and decided to take a thorough bath.By the time I finally stepped out of the bathroom and changed into a fresh set of clothes, a young maid was already waiting for me in the bedroom. She had brought up a large tray filled with fresh, warm food.I sat down at the small table by the window and ate.Shortly after I finished eating, a knock came on the door, and Dr. Collins stepped inside to check on me one last time.He took my pulse, checked my temperature, and nodded with a satisfied smile. He confirmed that my vital signs were completely normal and said my sudden collapse was the result of accumulated stress. He advised me to get plenty of proper rest.He packed his stethoscope back into his medical bag, gave me a polite nod, and left the room. But the moment the doctor closed the door behind him, I noticed how unusually quiet the entire mansion felt.I walked around the large guest room, looking out into the e
~TYLA~Cassian. An arrogant tyrant. That was exactly what he was.I hadn't cared about his deal when he had shown no interest before in that gala. But now that he had finally decided to show up, after we had come all the way here, he thought he could just disregard us?Like I hadn't spent the entir
~TYLA~I couldn’t move.It was as though my legs were rooted to the spot as I watched Olivia immediately bend down to Kenny’s level, ruffling his hair.Kenny’s giggles were like needles pricking at my skin.“Hello dear, buddy.” She greeted him, warmly, “Enjoying your snack?”Kenny nodded. “I love…
~TYLA~The doctors reassured us that it was a minor scratch, and grandma had been very lucky.Only then did my fast-beating heart slow down, and I began noticing those around me.The entire Wilson family was gathered in the ward, including Matt’s two cousins, Josh and Benny.“Mother, you cannot kee
~TYLA~I forced a smile to my trembling lips, even though it did nothing to brighten my face.“I’m sorry, darling. I need to head to the office now… I promise to take you to the park this weekend as compensation.”Kenny thought for a while, and then he nodded. In an instant, he was back to eating,
