ERYX

If I weren't fighting every instinct inside me, I would have torn the guy apart for getting that close to my mate.

Rose and Aveline stand behind me, both wearing the same horrified expressions. Whether the concern is genuine or performed, I don't have time to care.

“Get out.” My voice is low, but the command leaves no room for argument.

The guy looks at me nervously. He doesn't move at first, frozen beneath the weight of my stare. I take one deliberate step toward him. That's all it takes. He bolts out of the room.

Magnus is pacing furiously inside me now, snarling, demanding that I go after him. I force him down with everything I have, jaw locked, muscles tight. I cannot let anyone know she’s my mate. Not yet. Not here.

I turn back to Velora. She’s barely conscious, her breathing uneven, skin flushed with heat. Something twists hard and painful in my chest at the sight of her like this — soft, vulnerable, and suffering. I move closer and carefully pull the blanket higher around her shoulders, wanting her covered.

Then I stop cold.

“Fuck.”

I swallow hard when I see she’s only in her underwear beneath the blanket. The scent of her heat hits me fuller now that I’m this close — the same wild honey and aloe vera thick and sweet and impossible to ignore. Magnus surges again, violent and insistent. I grip the edge of the mattress and force myself to breathe through it, locking every muscle until the worst of the urge passes. Only then do I turn toward the others.

“I want to be alone with her.”

Rose and Aveline exchange confused glances.

“What?” Aveline steps forward. “Eryx, Velora is my sister. You can't just—”

“Don't make me repeat myself.” My gaze shifts to Rose, flat and cold. “Now.”

Neither of them moves. My patience snaps. “Leave.”

The single word drops into the room like a command that will not be questioned a second time.

The second the door shuts behind them and their scents disappear, I turn back to Velora, I cup her face carefully. She’s burning. The heat radiates from her skin in steady waves. Now I know for certain, she has awakened her wolf. It explains everything: the sudden strength of her scent, the strange warmth that has been crawling beneath my skin since earlier, the pull I'd been unable to understand. Her wolf has been calling to me. And I’ve been too damn blind to realize she’s been mine all along. I hate myself for that.

“Hey.” My thumb brushes over her heated cheek. Her skin is impossibly soft beneath my touch, and her face flushed from whatever the heat is causing her, breath still uneven. Every instinct is telling me to strip the blanket away, pin her down, and claim what already belongs to me. I lock the thought down before it can fully form. My eyes fall on her lips. The urge to close the distance and take her mouth rises hard and fast. I want to kiss her. God, I want to do more than that. But I'm not sure I can trust myself if I let the instincts take over. I would claim her right here if I gave in even a little.

*She's ours, Eryx. Mark her.* Magnus's growl echoes through my head, low and demanding.

“Shut the hell up,” I mutter under my breath. “Stop pushing me.”

He doesn't answer, but I can still feel him prowling beneath my skin, restless and hungry. I wrap an arm around Velora, holding her close, letting my warmth reach her without pressing further.

“Please, stay with me,” I murmur. I press a soft kiss against her hair and breathe in her scent. Sweet aloe and wild honey. It fills my lungs and sends another heavy wave of heat through me, thick, intoxicating, almost impossible to think through.

“Fuck.” The word leaves me as a rough exhale.

Her fingers suddenly move. I freeze. She reaches for my hand, gripping it tightly as though she's afraid I'll disappear.

“Velora, I'm here.” I ease her gently against me so I can see her face. “How do you feel?”

My voice comes out softer than I intended. She shifts closer, resting against my chest with a soft sound.

“You're warm,” she murmurs, her eyes still closed.

A small, involuntary smile touches my lips. “You made me this way, little trouble.”

I run my fingers gently through her red hair, then down her arm. Gradually the worst of the tension leaves her body. I watch her for a moment, almost forgetting everything outside this room.

Then her lashes flutter. Her eyes open. The moment they meet mine, she goes completely still. Recognition first flashes across her face. Then… confusion, shock, before something deeper and more vulnerable as the truth settles.

“Eryx?”

I stare back at her. And for the first time, she knows exactly who is holding her. This time… I don't hide from it.

  • TOUCH NOT HIS PLUMP MATE   GAME

ERYXThe second Vesper sees me, he stands to his feet and gives me a small, mocking bow.“Glad to have you here, Future Alpha Eryx.” He straightens, a cocky grin spreading across his face.I slide both hands into my pockets. “We need to talk, Vesper.”He scoffs. “Care for champagne?”I don't answer. He turns toward the girls behind him. “I'll be back.”He walks over to me and leads me toward a quieter part of the house. The music dulls behind us, but I can still hear it pulsing through the walls. He stops abruptly and turns to face me. His expression is more serious now.“Tell me you didn't come here to ruin the night.”“Give me what I want, and I won’t.”His brows pull together. “Wait…” His eyes narrow. “Is this about Velora Mayes? That girl?”“She’s not that girl.” My voice stays flat, precise. “She's my mate.”The words settle between us with more weight than I intended. Saying it out loud only sharpens the restless pull under my skin. She is mine. And right now someone is standing

  • TOUCH NOT HIS PLUMP MATE   GET IT

KEVINRose walks quietly into my study without knocking. Judging by the look on her face, I can tell she's still angry about the way I handled the situation earlier.“How is she?” I ask calmly, pulling off my glasses and setting them on the desk. She doesn't answer immediately. Instead, she sighs. “Did you really have to shout at Aveline like that?” Her voice tightens. “Don't tell me you're actually concerned about Velora?”I exhale sharply and lean forward slightly. “You know that's not possible.”“How am I supposed to believe that, Kevin?” She steps closer. “You loved her mother. Maybe you can't bear seeing Gemma's child suffer.”Silence settles between us. The truth is, Rose is right. I did love Gemma, more than I ever admitted while she was still alive. And every time I look at Velora, the same quiet eyes, the same stubbornness set to her mouth at times… It feels like the past is standing in front of me, accusing me of everything I chose to bury. Part of me wonders if the way we’v

  • TOUCH NOT HIS PLUMP MATE   SAY IT AGAIN

ERYXAfter dinner, I head to my room and take a shower. I change into gray sweatpants and pair them with a sleeveless jersey top. Vesper loves saying I wear these just to show off my abs and perfect muscles. I've heard it so many times that I don't even bother reacting anymore. I hardly wear anything complicated. I like keeping things simple and comfortable.I settle behind my study desk and turn on my laptop. The screen illuminates my face. Then it happens again. Velora's face flashes through my mind. I stare at the screen, but the words in front of me barely register. I can't concentrate. All I can think about is her. Her scent. Her eyes. The way she looked at me. The memory of her scent still sits in the back of my throat. I want to go back. The pull is constant, restless, and it’s starting to fray every edge of my control. The chair scrapes against the tile as I abruptly stand. Maybe I made a mistake. Maybe I shouldn't have held back. Maybe I should have claimed her when she was b

  • TOUCH NOT HIS PLUMP MATE   EVERY SECOND

ERYXThe drive home feels like something I did on autopilot. I barely remember the roads I took or the turns I made. My mind is too busy replaying the same images: Velora’s flushed skin under my hands, the way her body leaned into mine when the heat was strongest, the soft sound she made when I held her.Magnus had been seconds from taking control. I felt his hunger like a second pulse under my skin. Claiming her would have been easy. Necessary, even. But the look in her eyes when she finally recognized me — shock mixed with something close to fear — stopped me cold. She isn’t ready. And forcing the bond while she’s still reeling from her first heat would only make her run.I pull up outside the gate and kill the engine, but the tightness in my chest doesn't ease.“I messed up tonight,” I mutter.*Yeah. Big time, dude.* Magnus’s voice comes immediately, flat and unimpressed.*We had her tonight. And you still walked away.*I release a sharp breath and unfasten my seat belt with a fast

  • TOUCH NOT HIS PLUMP MATE   GENUINELY SCARED

VELORAThe second my eyes land on Eryx, I wonder if my mind is playing tricks on me. It doesn't make any sense. Eryx Nightbane is inside my room. And somehow, I'm curled up beside him in my bed.“Eryx?” His name leaves my lips quietly, almost as if saying it aloud will make him disappear. He doesn't answer immediately. For some reason, that scares me. A tiny part of me wonders if he's about to push me away, and I don't know why the thought makes my chest tighten.“How are you feeling now?” he asks calmly.I blink.I've definitely lost my mind. Eryx couldn't possibly be here. Not when he was supposed to be with Aveline. Something isn't right. Before I can think any further, I push myself up on my elbow and move away from him, despite the strange warmth still lingering around my body whenever I'm close to him.“Velora…” He reaches for me, but I don't stop until I'm at the edge of the bed.“You're…”The cold breeze from the open window suddenly hits my skin. I freeze. Then I remember exa
