CHAPTER 23: HEY, BABY!

KIMBERLY:

As I watched Barbra and Tess descend down the stairs, their matching smirks left me disgusted.

"I thought you were going to hang around your grandmother forever like a spineless kitten," Barbra sneered, her eyes trailing me up and down like she was inspecting a stain.

Tess giggled. "You thought you hit a jackpot when you married Damien but now you'll live to regret it? He doesn't even care about you and keeps finding comfort elsewhere."

I chuckled softly, fisting my hands on my waist. "Is that what you tell yourselves to sleep better at night? Cute."

Barbra's eyes narrowed. "You little…"

"Save it," I cut in, lifting my chin as I resumed my climb. "Your words don’t shake me anymore, Barbra. You’re not even entertaining, just loud."

Tess opened her mouth, but I was already walking past them, my shoulders squared, and my head held high.

They both froze in their tracks and turned to look at my back as I climbed up the stairs.

They were murmuring something

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL, KIM

CHAPTER 26: YOUR BEAUTIFUL, KIMKIMBERLY:“You're beautiful, Kim,” Damien whispered as he nibbled my earlobe with his tongue.By the time his lips found mine again, I was trembling. The second movie still played softly in the background—365 Days, a bold, sensual film about a mafia boss who gives a woman a year to fall in love with him. The movie has intense seduction, power play, and raw chemistry. I had chosen it as a second option after Damien complained that Perfect Strangers, the first movie I had chosen, didn't give him what he wanted. I had hoped that 365 Days would stir something in Damien, and make him see me as more than a reluctant wife. And from the way his hands roamed my body now, it was working. His fingers slid along my bare thigh, grazing the hem of the wine red silky robe I had purchased earlier that day. It was barely decent, clinging to every curve with just a single tie at the waist. The hem stopped at my upper thigh, leaving my legs exposed. This outfit also c

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    SHARING A KISS

CHAPTER 25: SHARING A KISS KIMBERLY:Roland was about to enter the living room but when he saw me putting a piece of dessert into Damien's mouth, he turned abruptly and left. I smirked and Damien chuckled.“What game are you playing, Kim?”I pretended like I didn't understand. “What do you mean? Is it a crime to enjoy a meal with my husband?”He shook his head in disbelief. “I didn't know you had so much mischief up your sleeve.”“Oh, so I'm now the one who's mischievous? Simply because I stopped allowing the Carter's to toy with my emotions? Look Damien, I'm done playing the victim.”“Well, I think I like this version of you. And I think we should start afresh.”I nodded. “It's okay with me.”When we finished eating, he took my hand and led me upstairs. I quickly washed up and put on the robe I just purchased a few hours ago.Damien's eyes lit up when I emerged in our private living room. “Wow! You look like a piece of steak,” he said with a smirk. “I need to wash up too. Give me a

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    OPEN UP!

CHAPTER 24: OPEN UP!DAMIEN:I was surprised at Kim's attitude this evening at the boutique. She acted so mature and when Nadia stormed out, I didn't bother to stop her. Instead, I went after Kim. After all, she’s my wife.I drove to the entrance of the mall and saw her standing there with shopping bags in hand.I rolled down the window and said firmly, "Get in."She paused for just a second, then walked over and opened the door. "That wasn't a request, was it?" she asked as she slid in, her voice neutral."Nope," I muttered, watching her buckle her seatbelt. She didn’t argue. No fuss. She looked relaxed as if nothing had happened. That was the first thing that threw me off."Hungry?" I asked after a beat."Depends," she replied with a small smile. "Are you buying?"I gave a short chuckle. "Of course."We drove in silence for a while until I pulled into La Solenne, a high-end restaurant a few blocks from the boutique. I got out without waiting, walked around, and opened the door for h

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    DO YOU WANT THIS MARRIAGE?

CHAPTER 22: DO YOU WANT THIS MARRIAGE?KIMBERLY: I followed Grandma Evelyn through the back corridor. My heart was still pounding from the chaos earlier, but looking at her calm presence, I felt soothed. She led me outside, past the patio, and into the garden. It was quiet out there, and very peaceful. The roses were in bloom, and smelled so good. She sat down on a wooden bench shaded by a willow tree and patted the space beside her."Sit, Kim," she said gently.I obeyed without a word, folding my hands in my lap as the breeze played with my hair. She looked ahead at the hedges for a while before speaking. "You know, you remind me a lot of myself when I first got married."I smiled. "Really?""Yes. I married into this family as a young woman with no allies and too many expectations. Your grandfather was as cold as Damien, perhaps even worse. I cried more nights than I care to count." Her voice grew thoughtful as if she was relieving the memories. "But I learned something that chang

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    STAY AWAY FROM MY WIFE

CHAPTER 21: STAY AWAY FROM MY WIFE VENUS:Roland winced and staggered back, holding his face with his hand after that punch landed on his face.“Stay away from my wife,” came a grumpy male voice.I turned around. Of course, it was Damien. He stood with a scowl on his face and his fists still looked ready to attack.“Damien? No, please.” I wasn't expecting that reaction from him. A few seconds ago, he had acted like I meant nothing to him. But now, here he was, reacting over a minor conversation.Roland, recovering quickly, wiped the corner of his mouth and sneered. "Wow. Big brother finally shows some balls. Is this a way to prove to your wife that you love her ? By throwing punches?""When you tell my wife that I'm not capable of love, what's your intention, Roland. Are you planning to seduce her? You don’t get to talk about love," Damien spat. "Especially not to my wife.""Oh please," Roland scoffed. "You're only territorial when your pride's on the line. You don’t love her. You do

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    YOU'RE RUTHLESS

CHAPTER 20: YOU'RE RUTHLESS KIMBERLY:My eyes were dry, but inside, I was weeping."It doesn't matter that Damien has been nothing but insensitive since we got married,” I muttered under my breath. “No one has to know about that. We'll sort out our differences between the two of us.”I sniffed in annoyance. "And then Roland? Really? What does he take me for? I'm stuck with Damien and will never get back together with him, no matter what happens.”I sat on the edge of the bed, my chin in my hands as I thought about how my world keeps spinning like a wheel.I shook my head, biting my bottom lip hard enough to taste blood. My phone buzzed in my purse, but I didn't bother to check it. I wasn’t ready for any more drama. I just wanted nothing but peace right now. I wanted to spend a few minutes without anyone trying to crush my soul. The door creaked open. And I look up. The scent of Damien’s cologne was enough to tell me who it was before his voice did."Kim."I blinked and looked up. H

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    ROLAND IS BACK

CHAPTER 19: ROLAND IS BACK KIMBERLY:"Roland?" I whispered, more to myself than anyone else.He stood tall and confident, and leaned casually against the stair rail like he wasn't bothered about anything in this world. My stomach twisted in fear. I still had not forgotten that incident at the registry where he almost drove a knife through my chest. How was I sure he won't try to kill me now?I had assumed I'd be free of him for a while—at least a few months. But here he was, back at the mansion just two days after the incident. Two days was all it took for the Carter family to flex their muscle and get him out.I took a deep breath and forced myself to ascend the steps, hoping to breeze past him like he was invisible."Kim," he called softly, catching my wrist before I could brush past. "You look... tired. Everything okay?""Let go, Roland," I muttered, trying not to sound as frustrated as I felt. I just wanted to be alone since no one wanted me. “Stop acting like you care.”"Why ar

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    A CHAOTIC DAY

CHAPTER 18: A CHAOTIC DAY KIMBERLY: Damien didn’t see me immediately. So I took a breath, stood slowly, and folded my arms. When Damien’s eyes finally landed on me, his steps faltered. The woman beside him looked from him to me and raised her eyebrows. "You didn’t tell me you were expecting a visitor." Damien didn't respond. I forced myself to smile and spoke in a calm voice. "Good morning, Damien. I brought you breakfast." His jaw tightened. "Kim. I didn't know you.." "Would barge in on you?" I interrupted. “I'm very sorry about that.” He nodded. I expected him to make an explanation or introduce his companion and I. But he didn't. "Well, I wanted to surprise you. But clearly, I’m the one who got surprised." The woman stepped back a little, sensing tension. I looked at her and then back at him. He didn’t say anything. I gestured to the box on the table. "You probably already ate, though. Right?" He glanced at the box but didn’t touch it. "Yeah. I went to brunch." I
