KATE'S POV

The steady buzz from my phone did nothing to help calm my nerves. I was alone in the office, holding a cup of coffee with both hands as different thoughts swirled in my head. The silence in this room was deafening, and I felt so…out of place. Maybe it was the way Micheal had looked at me earlier, as if I were an inconvenience.

I had just organized my stuff when I heard a light knock on the door. Ethan entered and closed the door behind him.

"Hey," I said, forcing out a smile that didn’t quite reach my eyes.

He didn't smile back. He looked…disappointed. Maybe even hurt.

“Why didn't you tell me?” he asked, his voice low but firm. “That you were his ex-wife. You had a different name on your resume.”

My heart sank. I placed the pen down slowly.

“Ethan I didn't know how to, I found out last minute, and even if I told you, I wouldn't have gotten the job.”

“You didn't know how to?” a disbelief edge in his voice. “Kate, I brought you in. I vouched for you. You should’ve told me.

  • TWISTED AFFAIR   CHAPTER 60

MICHEAL'S POV The rain hadn't stopped all morning. It clung to the city in that heavy way that made everything feel slower, like time itself was dragging its feet.I stood by my office window, holding a cup of black coffee in hand as I watched the drops trail down the glass. The silence was deceptive and calm, but this feeling kept tugging at me. My gut has been twisting since I woke up. A feeling I couldn't explain. Like something big was coming. My phone buzzed on the desk behind me, but I ignored it.“Hey man, you got a minute?”I turned at the sound of Ethans voice—my friend since college days, and now a partner on the tech investment venture we have been exploring on the side. Ethan's office was two floors down, but he rarely came up unless it was important.“Yeah, come in,” I said, placing the cup on the windows ill. “What's up?” Ethan stepped in, brushing droplets of rain off his jacket. His usual easy confidence was replaced by something hesitant. His smile faltered before

AUSTIN'S POV I'm not usually the quiet one in the group.I'm the one who throws in sarcastic comments at the right time, who calls out people's crap, who always knows how to lighten a tense room. But today, sitting at that brunch table watching Ashley talk about him, I couldn't find a single word to say that didn't taste like regret in my mouth. She was glowing. God, she was glowing. There was that spark in her eyes that I hadn't seen in a while…maybe never. And when she talked about him, it was like all of the walls she had built after Ryan had all fallen away. Like that. Like they had never been there to start with. And I sat there pretending I was fine. I wasn't.She said she was officially in a relationship. I felt my stomach twist the moment those words left her lips. I should’ve seen it coming. The signs were there, in her smile, in the way she dressed, how she'd been lately. But knowing it and hearing it are two different things. When she said the guy confessed his feelings,

ASHLEY'S POV I couldn't stop smiling like an idiot. The stupid kind of smile that just sits on your face and refuses to leave even when you're trying to be cool about it. I tried. God, I tried to keep it casual. But the way Micheal looked at me last night, the way he spoke, the way he held me like I was something precious…that kind of thing does something to you. And don't even get me started on the gifts. The anklet still glitters on my ankle as I slipped into my flats, and I caught myself staring at it in the mirror more times than I'd care to admit.Sophie would lose her mind when she hears about this. Jade, too. And Austin…well, Austin's hard to predict these days.I called them earlier, and we agreed to meet at a brunch spot downtown—this cosy, tucked away café that had the best waffles and iced coffee. I was the last to arrive, mostly because I'd been staring at myself for ten minutes before finally walking out the door.Sophie spotted me first. “Oh my God, there she is! The w

ASHLEY'S POV My heart pounded so heavily in my chest that I was stuck, stunned.“Will you be my girlfriend?” " he whispered, his voice trembling as if he feared I would say no.I stared at him, stunned for a second, and then I answered him with full excitement.“Yes,” I murmured. “Yes, Michael, yes.”He breathed softly, “You have no idea how glad I am to hear that,” he whispered into my hair, his arms around me. “You’re mine now, Ashley. Mine.”We sat there for some time, my fingers tracing his name on the diamond anklet, which he had just placed on my leg. I could not believe this was happening. It felt like something out of a dream. Only this time, I was not afraid to wake up.Then he stood up and stretched out his hand again. I took it without hesitating.“Come with me,” he said softly.I didn't ask where. I didn’t need to. I trusted him.He led me inside the estate, past silk curtains and golden light, into a quiet room he’d arranged. The room smelled of roses and vanilla. Rose c

  • TWISTED AFFAIR   CHAPTER 56

MICHEAL'S POV After all the chaos we'd just crawled out of: the betrayal, the press, the damn leak–it was finally quiet again. But in the quiet, I started seeing things clearer than ever. I thought about it long and hard, and I'd made up my mind.Ashley was the one.Not just someone I liked, not just someone I'm attracted to. She was the one I wanted beside me. Through everything. Through the storms, the silence, the triumphs, the failures…all of it.During the chaos, I looked around and realized the only person still standing with me, for me, was her.She didn't run. She didn't demand answers or accuse me when things got ugly. She just stayed strong behind me, and that meant more than any contract, more than any business deal. That was real.So tonight, I was going to make my move.I didn't want to just say thank you. I didn't want to just hold her hand and hope she knew how I felt. I wanted to show her the right way. I wanted to make it official.I called her over earlier in the d

  • TWISTED AFFAIR   CHAPTER 55

MICHEAL'S POV The sun had barely peeked through the thick clouds when I was in my office that morning, burdened with the recent event. The leak had shaken the very core of Kingston Technology, and I knew we needed to track down the culprit first.I initiated a canary trap, a method I'd read about in espionage circles. By distributing slightly altered versions of sensitive documents to various departments, I aimed to trace the unique markers in any leaked information. It was a calculated risk, but desperation demanded bold moves.Within days, the trap sprung. A confidential report bearing a specific phrasing unique to the version sent to the marketing department surfaced in the media. My heart sank. I'd trusted these people.Confronting the head of marketing, I observed his reaction closely. His eyes darted, and a bead of sweat formed on his brow. But it wasn't him. Further investigation led me to a junior analyst, recently hired, who had accessed files beyond his clearance. Under pre

  • TWISTED AFFAIR   CHAPTER 54

ASHLEY'S POV The ride up to the top floor on the elevator took an eternity. I stood frozen, arms wrapped tightly across my chest as the numbers flashed past, my image reflected in the chrome walls, and I looked like someone else entirely. Tensed shoulder, furrowed brows, pursed lips pulled so tight it hurt.I hated this.I resented learning about the leak from a goddamn newsflash on Austin's phone. I resented Micheal for not informing me earlier. I resented that my heart still felt for him after what he did, even when I was furious. Finally, the elevator doors slid open gently with a ding. I stepped out.The building was more subdued than usual, like the silence before a storm. Chloe rested against her desk with a weary smile, a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. She looked exhausted.“Miss Ashley,” she said, surprised but not unpleasantly. “You’re here to see Mr Kingston?”I nodded. “Is he in?”“Yes. He just wrapped up a meeting.”Something in her tone made me pause. I wanted t

  • TWISTED AFFAIR   CHAPTER 53

MICHEAL'S POV The elevator doors slid open to the top floor, and the air felt thick the moment I stepped into my office. The weight of everything hit me all over again: the leak, the questions, the whispers, the headlines. Kingston Technology had survived storms before, but this one…this is different.“Good morning, Mr Kingston,” Chloe, my secretary, said as I walked past. Her voice seems softer than usual.I nodded once, tightening my grip on the tablet in my hand. I hadn't slept, not really. Maybe two hours max. The rest of the night was me replying to emails, responding to calls, just trying to fix this before things get out of hand. I will not go down like this. Never. The meeting room door was already open. Five of the investors were seated, their faces tight, their suits stiffer than usual. They're definitely not here to mess around. Jayden wasn't here yet, and I knew that wasn't a good sign. He was rarely late. Especially not when the company was under threat.“Micheal, Mr Jon
