Eduardo began by apologizing. He told me that if he had known what kind of woman I truly was, he would have never let me work at his cabaret. That he regretted exposing me like that.

I interrupted him and said I was a grown woman—and if anyone was to blame for dancing in that place, it was me. He insisted on taking the blame. Then he told me I shouldn’t be afraid. That nothing bad was going to happen to me. That the fact I had found out about his illegal business only made him want to be more honest with me. He promised he would protect me with his life.

I tried to show a strength I didn’t really have and told him I could take care of myself.

He said he couldn’t bear the thought of something bad happening to me—because he loved me. I was stunned. I had always thought I was just another mistress in Eduardo’s life. And it was the first time anyone had ever told me they loved me. I wanted to respond to that feeling, but the truth was, I only cared for him deeply. I didn’t know how to lov

  • Taboo Dance    Chapter 7

The next day, I woke up to a goodbye kiss from Cristian. He was ready to head to his medical practice. After saying goodbye, I took a tranquilizer. My goal was to sleep and escape from the tangled mess my life had become. I couldn’t make sense of my husband’s sudden change in attitude. Nor could I understand my own reaction. And it was even harder to process the night of passion we had just shared. Before resting, I asked Ana not to wake me up. And she respected my request. I woke up after three in the afternoon with a ravenous appetite. I hadn’t had breakfast, nor eaten anything that day. In the dining room, I found a giant bouquet of red roses and a note from Cristian with a simple message: “Thank you, my wife.”I also found several messages from Eduardo. He was worried because I hadn’t shown up for lunch. I explained that I had taken a tranquilizer and slept through lunchtime. I apologized for leaving him waiting. He asked if that was the real reason or if there was something else.

  • Taboo Dance    Chapter 6

Several weeks went by in which everything seemed calm. My husband and I maintained a cordial relationship. Eduardo and I kept seeing each other at lunchtime. I continued at the dance academy. And Marión hadn’t tried to contact me. Everything seemed perfect—but I knew it couldn’t last.Eduardo and I were having lunch, excitedly talking about a book we had both read and loved, when the intercom rang. When Eduardo answered, he went pale and very serious. He told the concierge to let the visitors up, then asked me to wait for him in the bedroom.I did as he asked, but the conversation piqued my curiosity. It sounded like they were demanding more money than Eduardo was willing to pay. My brother-in-law refused, and that’s when they warned him about the consequences he might face. They spoke about how he could end up in jail because of his side businesses. I grew curious to see who was threatening my lover. I cracked the bedroom door open slightly and saw that the men pressuring Eduardo wer

  • Taboo Dance    Chapter 5

It was eight in the morning and I still couldn’t sleep. I’d spent the entire night thinking about everything going on in my life. And while I was still lost in those thoughts, Cristian came home. I pretended to be asleep. I didn’t feel like arguing with him anymore—and I didn’t want to see him either. He softly called my name, but I didn’t open my eyes. Then he showered, had breakfast, and left for his medical practice.I got up at nine in the morning—much earlier than I usually leave the bed. I went to the kitchen for a strong coffee. Ana, when she saw me, said she would bring it to the dining room for me. With an enthusiastic tone, she told me there was a surprise waiting there. I found a huge bouquet of red roses with a small card that read, “I’m sorry. It won’t happen again.” Along with the flowers, there was a paper bag from an upscale perfumery. Inside was a bottle of an extremely expensive perfume. The housekeeper brought the coffee and offered me breakfast. I told her I’d have

Half-jokingly, Marión has kept saying she could blackmail me. Now she doesn’t just say it when we’re alone—she says it in front of classmates and coworkers too. She even said it in front of Eduardo, who scolded her, invoking team loyalty. That only made Marión laugh like a maniacAfter Marión’s threat in front of Eduardo, he and I had a long conversation to figure out how we would continue seeing each other. I tried to take the opportunity to tell him who my husband was, but he insisted he didn’t want to know anything about my married life. We then talked about how to handle our relationship. We agreed to meet only at his apartment—never in public places. And at the cabaret, he would treat me like just another dancer. The plan was to keep our affair hidden from everyone—especially Marión and my husband. After that agreement, we started seeing each other almost every day. We would meet for lunch at his apartment from Monday to Friday, except when he had a business meeting. I had no pro

  • Taboo Dance    Chapter 3

To keep Cristian from getting suspicious about me going out every weekday, I requested a schedule change at the modern dance academy. I started taking classes Monday through Friday, from nine to eight. If my husband ever asks why I leave the house so early, I already have the perfect excuse. I’ll tell him that some classmates and I are rehearsing a choreography for an upcoming exam.At my first class with the new dance group, I ran into a student who also danced during the same shift as me at the cabaret. While we waited for class to start, I tried to talk to her. She was very curt and answered reluctantly. Apparently, she can’t stand me.When I got home, Cristian was already there, sipping a whiskey with lots of ice. He asked where I’d been at that hour. I explained the schedule change in my dance classes and told him we were rehearsing a choreography earlier in the day. In a harsh tone, he said I had no need to waste time on “little dances.” That my duty was to be at home. That’s wh
