He moved too fast—Maya could barely keep up. She thought he’d be rough, especially after all her teasing, but the bed beneath her was soft. “You…” One second Dae was above her, the next he was between her legs. Fabric tore. Cold air kissed her exposed skin. She gasped. “I’m going to eat you,” he said, dead serious. His once-dark eyes now glowed scarlet, his teeth sharp, inhuman. If he were anyone else, she’d be screaming. “You can scream.” He remind her. With one flick of his tongue, he was tasting her. “I’m going to eat you,” he warned again. “Please…” she gasped. “I want it.” ⸻ After witnessing a ghoul brutally devour a man, Maya West knows one thing: ghouls are monsters. Flesh-eating, merciless zombies. Dae-Soon is a ghoul—and he’s unapologetic about it. Rich, famous, and irresistible, he could have anyone. But when Maya storms out of his concert in disgust, he’s hooked. She hates his kind. He doesn’t care. He wants her—and he’s going to have her.
Lihat lebih banyakThe Supernaturals came like shadows spilling from a broken mirror. They weren't there one Moment, and the next they were all over the place. Maya wouldn't have necessarily had a problem with the sudden change. People were people to her, and she wasn't a people's person.
But she can't help the feeling of dread she felt when she found out from an unknown source that Eric, the guy she's been dating for two years was a fucking Incubi. No, she wasn't fucking rascist. She would totally understand why he would hide what he was, she doubt she'd have believed him if he had told her the truth. What she couldn't stand however was the idea of him feeding on her for years. She'd gotten the message that morning, from an unknown number. It had been the first thing she saw when she'd gone through her phone. A picture of herself, skin flushed, hair messy, and limbs tensed as Eric buried himself between her legs. She'd had no idea who had taken the picture, or why anyone would want to take a picture of her in such an intimate moment. The short note attached to it had nearly sent her into a panic attack. " Eric says you're the most tasty one he’d had, took a pic to prove it " Whoever it was had attached a smiling emoji to the text. As if the whole thing was fucking funny. Usually, Maya would take her time getting dressed before school, but she'd taken the bus in an oversized hoodie and sweatpants. Her curly hair was w complete mess and she had dark circles under her eyes. " What's up with you?" Her sister, Nia eyed her dissaprovingly " People are looking " Maya gave her a dirty look, and thankfully Nia knew better than to ask further. All through the drive, she was clutching her phone so tightly, if she had been a supernatural, the device would have shattered. The moment the bus pulled up in the school driveway, Maya shoved her way out of it. She knew Evan well, he was part of the school swimming team and he and the rest of his clique usually had their morning practice before class. She found him next to the pool, Kira West slinged by his side. Maya did hear rumours of Evan's string of ex girlfriend's. He'd been the school playboy before they started dating. Maya had hated his guts at first, but his determination to win her heart did get to her at the end. After long months of his unceasing flirtations and gifts, she'd agreed to give him a chance. Evan wasn't bad, he'd never looked at another girl ever since. His loyalty was as impressive as his sexual appetite. Maya, with her long curly hair, sun kissed skin, shapely figure and fleshy backside was easily the most stunning girl in the room. But as her sister would say, she had a stinky attitude. She tended to avoid people and always had that " Don't Talk To Me " look on her face. She wasn't sure how Evan did it, but he always seemed to sense her presence the moment she was in a room. Though now that she knew he wasn't exactly human, it made a lot of sense. His stunning blue eyes fixed on her approaching figure and a delighted smile stretched across his face. He seemed to have forgotten Kira who had trying her luck with him. She gave Maya a dirty look, like it was her fault Evan wasn't interested in hooking up. " Baby " Evan began, in his usual deep and sinfully seductive voice. Incubi. He had it written all over him. Strange how she'd never noticed that. " I'm so glad to..." Maya's fist connected with his face before he could finish his sentence. Funny enough, Evan barely even reacted at the hit except for the pause in his speech. A trail of blood made it down his nostril. He wiped the blood away with a fingertip, his eyes stared down at the red then at her, he arched a perfect brow. For a long time, the only sound between them was Maya's rampant breathing. Kira had saw the whole thing go down, and as she hurried out of the space, Maya knew the whole ordeal would become the biggest gossip in school for a while. ' The School's It Couple are having some relationship problems it seems...' " What was that for?" Evan asked " I should go to the police " Maya scuffed. It hurts a lot. But she was a tough girl, the last thing she would do was cry for a man. She didn't really care about the picture, if it ever got out, whatever. But she'd been fed on by her boyfriend for years. Incubi fed on sexual energy just as Vampires fed on blood. He'd been using her. " Babe...." " We're done " Maya wouldn't give him the light of day anymore. She was done with this whole thing. She'd been certain of that from the moment she learnt the truth. She turned to walk away but Evan followed. " Maya, please. I was going to tell you about..." " It doesn't matter " " I....I fucking can't help what I am you know! So what if I'm not human, it doesn't have to change a thing! I'm still me " " You disgust me" " Maya...." He tries to reach for her but Maya avoided him, her face morphing into a look of utter disgust. The way she looked at him now was like how one looked at filth. Stinky and revolting. He frowned. " Fine! What fucking ever. Have it your way then..." His voice fades into background noise as she walks away. Classes hadn't even started yet and she already knew she wouldn't be able to stay here much longer. She simply wanted to go home, crawl into her bed and sleep. " Are you kidding me?" It was just her luck that the sky outside had darkened considerably with rain clouds. The weather in Elthon was just this damn unpredictable. She can't possibly find a cab back home in this whether. But then again it was just like a fourty minutes walk home, she could manage that. If it rains, so be it. She knew a shortcut, through one of the older neighborhood with rundown buildings, littered with overflowing trashcan and too small alleyways. It was relatively safe. Like she said, nothing ever did happen in Elthon. Fifteen minutes into her walk and she felt the first raindrop against her face. Soon enough, the rain poured down and drenched her in it's cold embrace. She shivered and hurried her pace, brushing strands of wet hair from her face. She'd been so focused on getting home soon that she'd completely missed the first scream. The second had pierced through the sound of the rain and thunderclaps, freezing her in her steps. It was low and raspy, like whoever it was running out of breath or choking on his own saliva. An elderly? That had been her first nothing. An elderly gentleman stuck in the rain. The scream came again, this time low and raspy. Maya found her legs moving on their own. " Hello? Are you hurt?" As she edged closer, she could see a figure, no, two figures. One was slumped on the ground, almost being drowned in the flowing water. She couldn't see most of him due to the larger figure hunched over him. Head bowed. The water below was tinted red, and Maya became convinced they'd been an accident. The rain made the ground slippery, it would be so easy to fall and break something. She hurried closer. Her hand was already reaching for her phone that was no doubt drenched due to the rain. " Is he alright? I can...I can call for help...." The larger figure visibly tensed. Slowly, he turned to face her, and Maya froze under the weight of his gaze. His eyes—deep, dark red like fresh blood—locked onto hers. His face, a maze of countless tattoos, twisted into a snarl. Razor-sharp teeth gleamed in the dim light, still wet with crimson. She was certain something—flesh, perhaps—was wedged between them. On the ground, the other man had gone terrifyingly still. A gaping wound tore across his neck, a gruesome wound where a chunk of flesh and artery had been bitten right off. She'd heard of ghouls before, she'd seen some too. Grave stealers, flesh eaters, undead entities, Zombies. So many names, and yet, none of them had struck fear into her until now. Oh Jesus! Her legs had gone weak.In the days that followed, Maya tried to be more open about her new home. She acted more friendly toward Naji and answered her questions without hesitation. She even exchanged more than just greetings with some of her other classmates. To her surprise, she found that most people actually wanted to speak to the foreign girl—mostly to ask questions about America. She’d run into Nia a few times at school, but her sister was on a no-talking streak. According to her, Maya had single-handedly ruined her entire life by refusing to go see Dae with her. It was, apparently, unforgivable. Maya figured she’d give her sister enough space to vent. Perhaps, in time, Nia would understand that Maya was only trying to protect her. Kind of.She would say she was finally breaking into the Korean system. Things were looking up. She was sleeping better and could even look at raw meat without feeling immense nausea.“American girl.”There were still certain people who didn’t seem to like her very much, for
From the brief encounter she’d had with him earlier that day, Maya could already tell that Dae-Soon was the sort of guy who was used to getting his way. With a face like that, he probably had girls hanging off of him like bees to honey. So why, of all the other girls at the concert that day, had Nia been picked? The approach seemed rather unnecessary, and a bit too desperate too. What’s his deal anyway? What did he want? She had a lot of questions for the man himself, but getting them answered would mean she would have to see him in person again. And believe it or not, she’d rather die with her curiosity.“I’m not going.”“Mom!!” Nia could be a persistent piece of shit if she wanted to. But Maya was also exceptionally good at ignoring people. “Mom, please tell Maya she’s about to ruin my life!”“Maya, come on baby, just go with your sister.”“Sorry Mom, no can do.”“Dae could have given the invites to someone else, but he chose me—me! It’s fate, Mom! You can’t possibly expect me to mi
Nia wouldn’t stop talking about the performance. “Dae killed it.” Maya hadn’t stayed for one-third of the performance, so she couldn’t tell whether her sister was exaggerating or not. When she thought of Dae, it was merely as somebody she would never willingly approach in person. Did that make her a bit fascist? Perhaps, but no one had any right to judge her.The week that followed, she and Anna had gone to enroll in one of the better high schools in the neighborhood. It was smaller than her former school, and they were about the only half-mixed population in the entire school. That warranted the staring and whispers every time they walked into a room. Maya had just one session left and then she could go to any college of her choice. She might just leave Korea altogether if it continued like this.“Annyeong.” The first person to talk to her all day was a slightly chubby girl, pale and far too nervous. Maya told her that she couldn’t speak Korean quite yet, and she was at least happy t
Dae-Soon was far more popular than Maya had assumed. Maybe because she wasn’t a music enthusiast herself, she’d barely paid much attention to the posters, billboards, and adverts of him that usually spammed her everyday life. She’d been in and out of it for the past three months, but she’d been certain she’d seen something about the star even during that period. The man oozed dark sensuality. Usually, he had those heavy bangs—wet and drippy—covering half his face, giving off a feel of mystery to his fans and viewers. Maya had taken one look at him and decided the man had to be an incubi; no one else could pull off such a sexy aura while carrying such brightly coloured hair each day of the week.Despite her earlier hesitation, she found herself looking forward to his show. But of course, all her excitement faded the moment she saw the cramped space they would be packed in like sardines. Maya’s claustrophobia was quick to kick in. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”“What’s wrong?”“Don’t yo
Seoul was just as she had expected—unfamiliar. Its kind of rowdy atmosphere was far different from Elton. The stares they got from people were full of curiosity rather than malice, but it still made Maya uncomfortable. Her skin and that of her family were shades darker than the average Korean; her long, curly hair was also a giveaway that she didn’t belong here. One would wonder why Selene would choose Korea of all places to seek a fresh start.“She got a good job here,” Nia said. Maya still had her doubts if that was the real reason behind their sudden move, but she made no complaint. The neighbourhood they were in was relatively private, with the houses all looking similar and with a good space between them. They had a lush garden at the front that would require proper maintenance to keep the flowers vibrant. She didn’t have that many friends to begin with, so she had no one that would miss her. And this way, Evan wouldn’t bother her anymore. Maybe, just maybe, the change of space
If this had been a scene from a horror movie, Maya would have made fun of a scene like this. How can anyone be so stupid and not run away in a situation like this? But that was easier said than done when faced with the real deal. Her legs wouldn't budge. And her stomach felt all twisted up and uncomfortable; she might throw up at any point. The large man rose, those red eyes of his never shifting from her figure even once. His gaze darted over her body; he was probably thinking how best to gobble her up. The thought of herself lying cold in a pool of her own blood while being devoured, not by an animal, but a damn ghoul, was what got her moving.Maya darted through the alleyway. Her legs shook with each step, and the cold seeped into her bones. Behind her, she both felt and heard the lunatic giving chase. He was fast, of course, he was. He wasn't human after all, and she was no match for him. She was swept off her feet before she could get far.A shriek escaped her as she collapsed. "
