Chapter 5

The discussion ended, Daniel has rushed to bring out the buckets, water is already   leaking through roof, the rain seems to be heavier than the how it used to be.

Mitchell prayed silently that it will not rain more than it was, the house is almost getting flooded. 

" Mitch, we have to take action before everything goes out of our control.

What do you want us to do? 

Go get the roofing sheets, I have to fix it now, if not we will stay here in this flood until dawn. The water is much here.

Yeah Rose, just hold on while I go get them.

Mitchell rushed out to help Rose with the iron sheets so that she can mend the leaking roof. She hurriedly ran out before the rain will start pouring out more than the way it is now.

"I need a ladder also, she told Mitchell.

It's one at a time Rose, when I get this, I'll go get the others, she told her.

Rose was busy trying to take away anything that was on the spot she wants to place the ladder on. Her son, Daniel was also there to help her out.

Mitchell rushed in with two iron sheets. She hurriedly went to handover the sheets to her sister before having a change of clothes since was already wet.

She came back to help her sister in the twinkle of an eye. Rose has already gone out to get the ladder and the other tools she will use.

Mitchell ensured that she held the ladder tightly as she has always done, the roof was already placed by the side of the ladder so everything was set for the replacement of the roof.

Rose climbed on the ladder with all carefulness,she got to the top, checked the spot that was leaking and then reached for the sheet that was already by her.

As she turned to pick it up, she faltered and fell off the ladder.

She is rushed to the hospital by her sister with the assistance of her son. Their mother and grandmother got the information and quickly rushed to the hospital to check on her.

They waited to see the doctor but he has gone to attend to an emergency case, they were instructed to wait to see him but Mrs Williams hurries out to close her shootfor the day.

She returns to hear a bad news. " The doctor says that her leg is broken and she will not be able to walk until after a few years.

Rose's heart is broken, she has to lay on the bed all day. When she heard the news from her grandmother, she wept for a long time. Not because of the broken leg but because she is now a burden to the family.

She will not be able to work or send her son to school. She knows that Mitchell will not be able to bear the burden alone. But there was nothing she could do to save the situation.

Neighbors came around to see how she was faring. Some of them had helped the with money while some gave words of encouragement and left.

Madam Becky heard about what had happened to the Williams family.

" Poor little girl, she thought as she walked past Mitchell who was sitting outside with her nephew.

Mitchell had complained to her mother that she didn't like the idea of people trooping to their house to see Rose.

" It's not as if she died, She had told her.

Yeah, my dear. That's a show of love. And we can't stop them from coming to see her.

Madam Becky came out of the house to meet Mitchell with her nephew playing cards. But then she distracted the flow of the game.

" I'm sorry for distracting your game, she had apologized after calling her aside.

" There's no problem ma'am.

" I called you here because I have an offer for you.

Mitchell's eyes popped out of their socket  when she heard "an offer". " I hope it's a job offer, she said silently to herself.

" You're right about that girl, it's a job offer to work in Dubai.

Dubai? She asked in bewilderment. 

Yes, my dear. Do you like it?

She shrugged her shoulders and sat down to think about it, she scratches her hair with her hands and told her that she will give her a response in two hours.

Mrs. Becky left her, Mitchell watched her leave until she was out of sight, immediately she was out of sight she went in to tell her family about it.

" That's a good idea Mitchell but you're too young for this. Her mother tried to explain to her.

" But mother, I won't stay there forever, it's just a two-year contract. I will return immediately after I'm through with it.

" Well, mother I think we should let her go, it's just two years.

" I'll miss my daughter so much, Rose.

" I'll miss you to mother, Mitchell said as she stretched out her arms for a group hug.

Preparations for her trip to Dubai started the following week. Mitchell was happy because she is going out to see what was happening outside her town. She hopes to get closer to her dreams even as she explores the world.

On the day of her departure, she woke up late with a sad feeling. She sat on the bed and looked at the faces of her family.

" I'm going to miss you all, I hope you take care of yourself even as I leave. I will make sure that I work so hard so that I can give you a better life" she said silently with tears running from her eyes.

The others woke up to meet her in that emotional state and everyone joined her. They hugged each other Severally even before she finally left for Bago.

Mitchell arrived at the city of Bago in other to take a flight to Dubai. On getting there, she and the other girls she traveled with, discovers that they have been scammed since no agency has been arranged to take them to Dubai.
