Chapter 9

Author: Crispy Leghair
Darren loomed inches from me, face twisted, reeking of blood, dirt, and pure hate.

"Last chance." His hand shot for my beat-up scooter. "Hand it over, or I take it."

I clutched the half-spilled milk, eyes squeezed shut. Done. Game over.

But right before his hand touched me—everything froze.

Darren's snarl locked in place. His allies? Statues. Even the dust in the air hung mid-float, like someone hit pause. The Abyss of Mist—frozen solid.

Data ripped past me like shooting stars, my scooter cutting the void like a laser. My hands were drenched, knuckles white on the bars. Blink wrong here and I'd get deleted.I locked on the Heart of the World, one straight shot—then boom. Something huge slammed into me sideways, crushing me and the scooter like a soda can. We got ripped right off the golden highway."What the hell?!"That was all I got out before the lights cut. The world spun me like a dryer cycle, up, down, sideways—no clue what was what.Then—smash. I hit stone, ice-cold, scooter and all. Pain shot through me like I'd shattered every bone. And the worst part? My delivery box flew open. The cup of warm milk—my golden ticket—splashed out, half gone.I shoved the pain down and lunged for the cup, trying to save what was left."Don't bother."That rasp came from the fog, smug as hell.I whipped around. Pupils tightened.Darren.He looked like roadkill—clothes shredded, body wrecked—but his eyes burned crazy-b

Life had been stupidly easy lately. After almost dying in the wastelands, the bosses spoiled me rotten—treasures, smooth runs, no stress. At Haunted High, baby ghosts chirped, "Good morning, Miss Shaw." Crimson Keep's skeleton guards parked my scooter in the VIP spot. Even the carnival's freak show paused their chaos till I dropped the food.My ratings spiked past 9.5. Darren was pretty sure every bone in his body was broken. The teleport scroll had dumped him in a reeking swamp, half-buried in sludge. He clawed free, coughing up black blood and bits of his own guts, his face a mess of fear and rage."Eve...Evelyn Shaw," he spat. "Four S-rank bosses... marching out for one stupid delivery NPC? Are you kidding me?"His squad—years of grinding, gone. Now he was just roadkill.Instead of laying low, he pulled up the player forums. Logged in as Nightblade, he dropped a thread:[Shocking! The Hidden Weakness of Every S-Rank Dungeon Boss—A Delivery NPC Named Evelyn Shaw!]He cranked the drama to max—claimed she could cross domains like nothing, bragged about setting an ambush, then swore the Vampire Prince, Faceless Principal, and the rest swooped in and crushed his squad like bugs.He spun it like he was some fallen hero who risked everything for the players, standing up against the game's tyrants.[This Evelyn Shaw NPC is the system's chosen one!

Darren's face went ghost-white.Yeah, he knew the delivery girl had weird ties, but four S-rank bosses? This wasn't a beehive—it was yanking the lid off hell."Retreat! Get the hell out!" he shouted, voice cracking as he bolted.Too slow."Run?" Lord Nortune's icy voice slid in right beside him.A pale, flawless hand materialized, clamping his throat and hauling him off the ground. His prized S-rank armor folded like cheap foil.Under the swirling blood cloud, Lord Nortune's form sharpened—perfect, regal, lethal."N-No—" Darren gagged, feet kicking as his face went purple.A stub of chalk zipped through the air like a bullet, crunching into Howie's knee.He hit the dirt screaming, kneecap blown apart.Madam Faceless flickered into view, voice flat and merciless."Campus violence. Group bullying. Per school policy, this warrants immediate expulsion."Her words were the gavel.Howie and the others glitched, edges smearing like an eraser dragged across them. Their screams cu
