Chapter 2

Author: Circle Master
The burning pain on my skin still hadn't faded as I thought about my past life. The pain was so intense, it almost made me lose my balance.

I stared at the man before me.

A man like him… I was determined to send him to hell.

Amy only cried harder when I stayed silent, looking even more pitiful. I turned and met her eyes, letting out a cold chuckle.

"I'm not going to punish you, and I won't kick you out."

The moment I said that, a smug, almost arrogant, look appeared on Johnny's face. "You've finally learned how to act like a proper Luna! If you had figured this out sooner, I wouldn't have pushed you away for so long. But it's not too late to change. I'll find time and give you a pup."

Hearing Johnny say that would have made me happy—if this were in the past. Having a pup would have meant securing my place in the Pack and proving that I mattered to Johnny.

But now, I was grateful I hadn't had a pup yet.

I looked at Johnny and said coldly, "It's fine. I don't want a pup."

Confusion flashed across Johnny's face before turning into rage. "You really don't know what's good for you, do you?! Don't you care about your status and reputation the most? Me offering you a pup suits you perfectly, doesn't it? I'm warning you. If you turn me down now, don't ever dream of having a pup with me again!"

Listening to him, I could only give a bitter smile.

Johnny and I were mates chosen by the Moon Goddess.

Back then, Johnny's pack was small and weak. My parents were firmly against me suffering in a small pack like that. But I believed the Goddess wouldn't make a mistake, so I stayed.

I applied everything I had learned about management, managing the pack step by step.

Johnny used to say I was too rigid, but as the Blackfang Pack grew stronger, he stopped complaining and firmly supported me. I thought things would keep continuing just like that, but Amy came into Johnny's life about a year ago.

Amy was always clumsy, always messing up important pack plans. The most serious incident occurred when she mixed up Johnny's speech notes, causing everyone to lose respect for him.

She sobbed as Johnny yelled at her with eyes full of anger.

To keep things on track, I handed Johnny the backup copy. After the banquet, Johnny angrily forbade Amy from taking part in any more planning.

No one could've guessed that all that irritation would, with enough attention, turn into affection. Johnny was willing to kill his own wife and pup for this woman.

Seeing the determination in my eyes, Johnny started to panic.

He couldn't understand why the woman who used to care so much about having a pup now seemed completely unmoved and even rejecting him.

He tried to come closer, wanting to hug me, but Amy pulled his sleeve with all her strength.

"Alpha Johnny, don't hurt Luna Carla because of me! I'll leave on my own. Please don't fight because of me."

Johnny looked at Amy, her eyes red from crying, before gently patting her head. Then he turned and yelled at me, "Fine! Have it your way! But don't come begging me for forgiveness days later!"

I nodded calmly, showing I understood.

As the two of them were about to leave, Amy suddenly leaned in close, and her eyes turned vicious. "Johnny will only ever love me. The title of Luna will be mine, too. You can look forward to the day you're kicked out of the pack!"

After they left, I forced myself to calm down and walked to the manor covered in thorny vines.

It seemed Johnny had forgotten something. Whoever I chose to be together with would be the pack's Alpha.

Three years ago, my parents repeatedly refused to let me become Luna of such a weak pack. However, the elders of the Blackfang Pack kept assuring me and even signed a contract stating that whoever I chose would be Alpha. They promised I would never suffer any injustice here.

The first time I arrived, the elders recommended Zack, the most respected member of the pack at the time.

But I had refused. I still chose the mate the Moon Goddess had destined for me.

After we became mates, Johnny was so afraid Zack would threaten his position that he locked Zack away.

As I stood at the entrance of the manor, I crushed the only blooming rose at the gate with my hand.

Zack was nearby, leaning against the doorframe, a charming and cunning smile on his lips. "Looks like you're in trouble, Honored Luna?"

I nodded lightly, crushing the petals in my hand.

"It's time for the pack to have a new Alpha."

When Johnny returned from his trip, I would give him a surprise he would never forget.

Johnny's eyes were full of resentment as he said to me, "When Amy found out I wasn't Alpha anymore, she left the Pack that very night."I straightened my outfit, my tone full of disdain. "So what? Are you asking for my forgiveness because you feel regretful toward me? Or do you just want your Alpha title back so you can keep Amy around?"Johnny couldn't answer. He stood there, looking lost.I shrugged. "Johnny, I think I've made myself very clear. There's no way we'll ever be together again. You can also forget about ever becoming Alpha again, too."At Zack's command, someone dragged the disheveled Johnny out.Later, I heard a Rogue appeared in the northern forest, searching for Amy every day. He would mutter, "It's all that woman's fault! I'll make her pay for this!"After our great Alpha lost everything, all he could do was pin all the blame on a woman. But honestly, I just didn't care anymore. After that, my life was wonderful. Zack treated me very well, with a love I had ne

I stared into Zack's eyes, making sure he heard every word. "You lost me once?"His tears rolled down his cheeks and into the palm of my hand. "Yes, I lost you once. I saw your car explode in the fire, but by the time I got there, it was already too late… After you died, I begged the Moon Goddess. I wanted to trade my life just to have another chance for you."I looked at Zack in shock. "So you were reborn too?"He gently brushed the hair from my forehead and nodded.I let out a bitter laugh. "Zack, I'm not worth it. I made the wrong choice last time. That was my consequence to bear.""No! That's not true!" Zack cut me off, his voice urgent. "It was me. I didn't protect you. If you had chosen me, I never would've let you go through any of those horrible things!"That was when I realized Zack had loved me from the very first moment we met, but I had firmly picked Johnny instead.Zack trained harder, learned everything he could, hoping I would notice he was the better choice. He

At the alliance meeting, Zack's speech was nearly perfect. Thinking back on Johnny, I just felt relieved. Before this, I wrote every one of Johnny's speeches word for word in order to give Johnny a good image in the alliance. All he needed to do was to read them out loud. Even then, he managed to read them wrong sometimes.Because of that, the higher-ranking Alphas in the alliance often rejected him. They always said I had chosen the wrong mate, that Johnny was never fit to be Alpha. But back then, I truly believed in destiny.I worked hard to maintain good relationships with every Alpha, thinking that if I took care of Johnny and gave my all, he would only get better. But the truth was that I was wrong. No amount of effort from me could help someone who wasn't willing to help himself, especially when he had no talent in the first place. In the end, Johnny only resented me for it. I even lost my life later on.When he saw me looking ahead blankly, Zack waved his hand in front

Johnny picked up the mate-bond dissolution application and flipped through it again and again. "Impossible! I've never signed this! This has to be forged! A fake!"I shook my head and let out a frigid chuckle. "If it's forged, do you think the alliance wouldn't find out? Are you questioning the alliance's capabilities?"Johnny's eyes turned red as he rushed at Zack, grabbing him by the collar. "What did you do to make Carla want to be your mate?!"Zack easily pulled Johnny's hand off and threw him hard against the wall. Johnny's back hit the wall with a loud thump. He stared at Zack in disbelief, like he was seeing Zack for the first time.Zack walked right back to my side, giving Johnny a cold look. "Three years ago, I didn't care about competing with you physically because Carla loved you. But now, I have no reason to hold back against you."It was like Johnny had taken a huge hit. Even Amy, who tried to help him up, was shoved aside. He lost it and charged at me. "You can't b

When Zack walked in, there was shock on Johnny's face.Amy still hadn't figured out what was happening and kept her usual haughty attitude. "Johnny! What's wrong with you? Why aren't you saying anything? I bet she just found some random guy to threaten you!"When Johnny didn't respond, Amy marched right up to me. "Carla! Johnny is right about you. You're just jealous! No wonder he doesn't like being around you!"I shrugged, showing I didn't care. Then, I turned to Johnny. "Do you think I'm simply threatening you?"Amy cut in, hollering right in my face, "You're just mad at Johnny! You're jealous because Johnny went on vacation with me, aren't you? You think acting like this will get you his attention? Don't you think you're very childish?"I gave her a faint smile and ignored her, walking straight up to Johnny. "If I could make you Alpha, I can make someone else Alpha, too."With that, I naturally slipped my arm around Zack's. I had to admit, Zack really was more suited to be

The first step of my plan was to pull Johnny down from his position as Alpha.I filled out the application to dissolve our mate bond and tucked it at the back of the Pack's bills and reports before sending everything to Johnny.Soon, I received a message via mind-link from Johnny. "I've signed off on all the bills. You did a good job planning our trip, Carla. You should've done this from the start."Predictably, he was so oblivious and completely absorbed in the romance of his trip with Amy that he didn't notice a thing."In light of your performance, and for the stability and growth of the pack, I'll give you a cub. You'd better take this chance and raise an heir for me. Be grateful for how tolerant I am."Tolerant?I let out a cold chuckle. This man was as shameless as ever.Johnny's so-called tolerance for Amy went far beyond this. Every time Amy caused trouble, he would act angrily, but nothing ever happened to her. In the end, I was always the one cleaning up her mess.Eve
