Chapter 5: Singapore

rafe wasn't kidding when he said we were going to Singapore, and now we're there. Luckily the guy was kidding when he asked me to help him move his stuff.

"Rafe, you mentioned this was a business trip, right? But I didn't see you in any meetings today?"

Honestly, this confuses me. Rafe claimed he was taking me on a business trip, but since we arrived he had been admiring the scenery and checking his phone.

"Business trips aren't always about meeting people.", Rafe said briefly even though I still wanted to protest, but I was afraid to protest now, he might leave me alone in Singapore and go back to his big house.

Rafe and I had been spinning for two hours without any clear idea. Yes, there is no clear statement.

"This feels more like a date than a business trip, though." I thought to myself, but I quickly discarded that stupid thought.

How could it be? Rafe is not a guy who is romantically interested in me, is he?

"So, where are we heading now?" half an hour passed and I forced myself to ask this guy.

"Where would you like to go?" he asked back which made my brain process the sentence again, fearing there was a trap in Rafe's question.

"Me?" I asked like a fool and Rafe nodded.

"Maybe we should start with something to eat?"I asked, pointing to some restaurants that seemed to be popular with the tourists.

Rafe shook his head, as if he disagreed with my idea. Oh, I forgot to mention, this guy can only eat 24-karat gold. I doubt his stomach could handle the food a poor girl like me would eat.

"Any idea where we'll be dining?" I asked and Rafe didn't answer. Instead, he was busy with his cell phone for a few minutes.

"Alright, just follow me." he said quietly and I was forced to come too. Who would want to be left abroad without money or anything. I could have been homeless on the first day.

Here I became increasingly aware of the worldly differences between me and Rafe.

If you know what I mean, you must understand where this man is taking me now.

The most luxurious hotels have become landmarks in Singapore. The surprise is there. Surprisingly, the hotel is now empty.

Booked all floors including the hotel's famous restaurant.

"Rafe, how much money did you spend on this?" I whispered to the man but Rafe just shrugged.

"I didn't keep track of the expenses." Rafe replied.

Just like this guy ordered curbside ice cream, he ordered an entire hotel floor. Oh, I heard there is delicious ice cream in Singapore, but Rafe won’t let me buy it. Maybe I will buy it secretly in the future.

"Welcome, ladies and gentlemen." some of the hotel staff greeted us as if welcoming a king. Sometimes I wondered what kind of business this man, who was now married to me on contract, had.

"Rafe, it's like you've made a deal with the devil to afford all this!" I asked and he just looked at me with that pitying look. Yes, he deserved to feel sorry for me. My pocket money was probably only enough to buy toilet paper at that man's house.

Back to topic: We were then taken to the top floor of the hotel. I can’t understand the various certificates of a five-star restaurant.

I think the French themselves would have a hard time naming the dishes on the menu.

"What on earth is happening? It's like all my childhood dreams are coming true all at once. Why now?" I thought to myself.

Dine in chic restaurants with panoramic views of Singapore and delicious meals.

Now I understand. If we have enough money to travel abroad, our life will be perfect.

But my gut still warned me that something wasn't right. Raph had to plan something.

Isn't it common for farmers to fatten their cattle before slaughtering them? After Rafe feeds me, will he use me as a sacrifice to form a barrier with the devil?

The man suddenly cleared his throat and turned his eyes to me. I have a hunch that this person is up to no good.

"Luna, as of now, you're officially my wife." he started the sentence while I just gulped waiting for the rest of his sentence.

"Things are going to get tough from here on out. We might both change in ways we can't predict." this was the first time I heard Rafe say something sentimental even though I had no idea what it meant.

"Why are you telling me this now? What's the point?"

"I want you to remember something crucial: if I change, or if you do, hang in there, even if it's painful."the man said with a slightly gentle gaze.

I'm not kidding when I say his gaze was nothing like the Rafe I was used to.

"I don't understand. What are you trying to say?"

"Right now, everything seems calm, like a still sea. But we can't predict when the storm will hit." he said with that sentimental look.
