Chapter 16

I'd been sitting on the couch for three hours, staring at my phone, willing it to ring or Jovan to text back.

But nothing.

The silence was suffocating. Everywhere I looked, there was evidence of him. His jacket on the chair. His coffee mug in the sink. His book on the nightstand, a bookmark still holding his place.

He lived here. This was his home, our home and I'd made him feel like he couldn't come back.

I picked up my phone again, scrolling through the messages I'd sent.

I'm sorry.

AARON'S POVThe brick of the alleyway was cold, damp, and felt like the exact representation of what I was feeling inside. But the heat coming off Leon was the exact opposite of all that, and as our mouths moved together, I felt some of it seeping through my compression shirt, warming me.I had him pinned. My fingers were buried in the stiff, starch-white fabric of his shirt, and I could feel his heart hammering against my knuckles like a trapped bird.He looked pathetic, with his eyes glazed with a mix of excitement and confusion, his face flushed. He was looking at me with a mix of terror and that insufferable defiance that always seemed to peek through no matter how scared he seemed to be.I liked that.“Do you ever think before you speak?” I roared at him.I was so mad, I was physically vibrating with my loathing towards him. This little mouse had spent months hiding in the shadows, dissecting my life, stealing my mannerisms and my dress sense and the way I acted, all to graft th

  • Tamed By The Campus Bad Boy   Chapter 18

LEON'S POVThe bell above the door chimed with a cheery, mocking ting as Aaron stepped into the diner.I felt my stomach do a slow, nauseating roll as I told myself that the only reason I'd agreed to meet him here was because this place was bright and in the open.It was the polar opposite of that neon-soaked club where I’d woken up after my night with Damian. Only Damian deserved to see me in a place like that.I had my button-down shirt done up to the very last hole, the stiff collar scratching against my neck. Every time I moved, I still felt the soreness between my legs. And I loved it.Aaron didn't look like his usual, calm self. He looked like a wreck. There was a fresh, nasty bruise blooming along his jawline that made him look even more dangerous than usual. His jaw also seemed to tighten as he slid into the booth across from me, his presence so heavy it felt like the oxygen was being sucked right out of my lungs.“You’re late,” I managed to say, my voice coming out thinner th

AARON’S POVThe Clamshell smelled like fried food and bad decisions.I got there twenty minutes early anyway. Old habit — never let anyone see you arrive. I picked a corner booth with a clear sightline to the door, ordered a Coke I didn’t want, and watched the entrance like I was expecting an ambush.Maybe I was.The bruise on my jaw throbbed. I pressed two fingers against it absently, then stopped when I caught the waitress staring.Four fifty-eight. Two minutes.Leon walked in at exactly five o’clock, which somehow annoyed me more than if he’d been late. He stood in the doorway scanning the room — khaki jacket, ridiculous little backpack, looking like someone’s honor roll student who’d taken a wrong turn. His eyes landed on me and his whole face tightened. He slid into the seat across from me like he was approaching a bomb.“You look terrible,” he said.“Nice to see you too.”His eyes lingered on the bruise. “Jacob?”“Sit down, Leon.”He was already sitting. He straightened his jack

If he wouldn't come home, I'd go to him.---By the time I reached Jovan's bank, the sky had opened up. Rain poured down in sheets, soaking through my jacket within seconds.I didn't care.I parked across the street and waited, watching the entrance. Employees started trickling out at five-thirty, umbrellas popping open, people running to their cars. But no Jovan.Six o'cloc

AARON'S POVThe phone felt heavy in my hand as I scrolled to the number.Leon
the innocent looking bastard. How stupid did he really think I was? Did he really think I would simply forget that he used me, made me sleep with him for the first time simply because he was unhealthily obsessed with Damian?I stared at my reflection in the darkened window of my bedroom, tracing the edge of the bruise Jacob had left on my jaw. It still throbbed in time with my pulse.I should've put some ice on that
I thought dismissively. With an inward, “fuck it,” I finally hit dial on Leon's number, leaning back against the headboard. It rang three times before he picked up.“Hello?” came his soft, almost feminine voice.A wicked smile tugged at my lips as I picked up my keys, twirling the hoop around my pinky finger.“You sound like you’re hiding in a closet, Leon. No pun intended.”He scoffed, “of course it's you. How did you get my number?”“I think you meant to say ‘I’m sorry I forgot to give you m

  • Tamed By The Campus Bad Boy   Chapter 14

LEON'S POVIt was a typical lazy Saturday for me. Which meant I would lounge around the house after helping my mother with the laundry and cleaning. Then in the evening, my parents would leave for church and stay for maybe two hours in preparation for Sunday service. So basically, I had all day to myself. And it was today that I finally decided to call my best friend.I scrolled through my contacts until I hit hers.I smiled at the memory of this name I hadn't called in months.Rose.We’d been inseparable since we were in diapers, two pastor’s kids bonded by the shared trauma of Sunday school and itchy formal wear. When her parents got transferred three states over, a part of the little social life I had vanished with her.Still smiling, I dialed and held the phone to my my ear as it began to ring. She picked up on the fifth buzz.“Oh my God, Leon? Is that actually you, or am I hallucinating?”“It’s me,” I repy, a genuine laugh breaking out of my voice.“So you finally decided to call
