Anastasia's POV

Donovan Leonid, a man who wasn't a stranger, not even an acquaintance, but he was someone my parents knew, and was also my enemy.

A man who had sworn the same oaths I did, bled under the same banners, and then spat on it in the worst ways by joining the syndicates we work against.

The moment his boots crossed the polished floor at the entrance of the mansion with a smile, the atmosphere immediately changed. Father's guards stiffened at the door.

Mother's worried gaze flicked from me to him, and the doctor at another door that led out of the mansion immediately left without a word.

“Why are you here?!”

I yelled at the top of my voice as I descended the stairs. He didn't give an answer, instead, he turned to mother and gave a short bow.

“I asked a question, why are you here?” I hissed. I was furious, even more than I was with the gunshot. “Get. Out!”

His dark green eyes moved over me lazily, lingering too long on my exposed arms that had the bandage, before moving to my bandaged thigh.

And he smirked, totally unbothered by the line of guards now trembling and moving to surround him.

Why the hell were they scared of this bastard?

“Donovan Leonid…..”

“Anastasia Mikhailova.” He said with a smile, before slipping his hands out of his pockets. “That's no way to greet a friend.”

“How dare you show your face here?”

Father’s bodyguards were already shifting into position. They had daggers drawn, guns cocked and aimed, and some had chains. A word from me and they'd drag him out by the throat.

And I wanted that….God, I wanted that satisfaction.

“Throw him out,” I ordered coldly.

“If they touch me, you might actually have to switch locations because of the blood stains.”

I flinched, biting down on my lips, I glared at the guard closest to him. “Who are you scared of, me or him?”

The man gulped down his saliva and stepped forward, tightening his hold on the chain with his hand. However, Donovan only lifted one of his gloved hands, before speaking.

“I'm not here to fight,” he said calmly with his annoying, attractive, deep tone as he glanced at mother who sat silently in her seat. “I'm actually here for business with your parents,” he eyes moved back to me, and I hated the way my body tensed under his gaze.

My expression twisted to disgust. “Like father would want to entertain a traitor like you.”

That cocky smile widened, the same smile that reminded me of how he abandoned the organisation and switched at the most important time. He tucked his hands into his pockets, leaning back slightly as if he owned the place.

“I'm only here for my boss,” he said, then his gaze darkened, “Where is Vincenzo?”

I opened my mouth to speak, but a hand raise from mother got me shrinking back.

“Donovan, can you please accord my husband the respect he deserves?”

Donovan didn't spare her a glance, he simply smirked, “I don't think my boss would like that, but sure ….Now, where is he?”

Mother sighed, “He left early this morning to handle some matters abroad, whatever it is you want to tell him, please tell me.”

I wasn't surprised by how my mother handled the situation. Of course she knew my relationship with Donovan was terrible, despite not knowing why.

Her calmness and brilliance when handling business matters like this made me feel proud.

“Please have a seat,” she added and finally turned to me. “Ana, could you please get us wine or tea?”

I nodded immediately and turned around, but not without glaring at Donovan, with a clear warning to behave himself.

I hurried to the kitchen not far from the living room to avoid missing out on the conversation.

I always wondered why mother always refused the idea of a maid to take care of the house, since we had guards in the mansion . But then, considering the life we once lived before father married her, it was very obvious.

‘It would be nice to hire at least two from the organisation.’

I thought as I left the kitchen, but as I approached the living room, I heard mother and Donovan's conversation.

“If she already agreed to it then why the delay?”

“We cannot offer our daughter out to some mysterious man without seeing him first. I am certain your mother never did this.”

Donovan chuckled, “True but you know how busy he is. Just the night prior, he got attacked and nearly broke my wrist.”

“Serves you right,” I muttered under my breath as I watched him wave his bruised wrist to prove what he was saying.

Mother didn't seem fazed by what she saw, instead she smiled. “Tell your boss we will not sign anything without seeing him first.”

“I'm only here as a messenger and his stand in,” he said with a strange smile as his gaze shifted to where I was. “Oh, you're back.” His smile widened, ”I've come to take you to your husband's home.”

The words slammed into me harder than the bullet had, and mother turned with a raised brow to see I was standing in the corner.

For a moment, the world blurred, from the marbled walls to mother's worried expression, the silence of the guards and Donovan's face. My stomach twisted and I couldn't breathe.

My husband's home? That bastard was lying. He had to be.

I steadied myself and placed the tray and bottle of wine on a stool not far from me, and then I lifted my head, to hide my trembling. “What nonsense are you talking about?” I snapped. “I don't have a husband.”

“Ah…you probably forgot, I'm not surprised.” Donovan made gestures at the guard not too far from him to bring the wine and tray close.

Once he had gotten a taste of the wine he continued. “The arrangements were made long before tonight, a month ago and you even agreed to it,” his gaze shifted to father's study door as if he knew something I didn't then he smiled warmly. “I'm here to escort you to your new home.”

Surely he was bluffing, Donovan could never be affiliated with someone I was going to marry, over my dead body.

I scoffed loudly, with a smile on my face, “And if I refuse or decide to cancel the deal?”

His smile dropped for the very first time, but it didn't take long, as a sweet smile replaced it. It was then the guards at the mansion's gate ran in panting and trembling.

“Then I'm afraid your father will be killed right outside your mansion by my men.”

Anastasia's POVI remembered that day like it was yesterday. Months ago, when I had just gotten promoted in the organisation, father returned home with files that looked strange even for me.They were black papers with a silver cover, and they were unusually small.I was really curious about them, but had I known that curiosity would lead me here, I wouldn’t have even asked… or returned home that day. Those papers were the contract for my marriage with Draco, no, the Vasilev Brothers, and I didn’t even read it properly before signing. As the memories flooded my mind, more tears rushed down my face and I couldn’t help but feel pathetic and stupid.I was crying in front of my enemies and I couldn’t control it, not even enough to look confident. The briefcase and gun slipped from my hand and hit the floor as I covered my face, breaking into a sob.“My love,” Draco called calmly once again and walked over to me. He observed me for a second, then cupped my cheeks and lifted my head so I’d

Anastasia's POV Lies. If there was anything Mafias hated more than being betrayed by their closest, it had to be that. I stood frozen in my spot, contemplating between taking out my gun and threatening them to let me go, or better still tell them the truth. But, that also had consequences. If what I assumed came out to be false, then I'd have leaked out confidential information worth the lives of innocent people, the wrath of the ISG and mortal enemies. And my family was too small and weak to make enemies with the brothers from that day. I gulped down a big lump of bile that had formed in my throat. My entire body was cold, and the pressure alone from a pissed Marius was enough to make me do something stupid again. I glanced at Draco who tilted his head, his gaze focused on the briefcase in my hand, before lifting his head and smiling sweetly. My heart skipped a beat. Why was he smiling? Could he see what was inside? Or did he already know? Multiple questions formed in my

Anastasia’s POVI’ve never taken the words wolf under sheepskin seriously before, because I believed no one had a reason to hide their true nature. No matter how good the reason was, I had never met people who did that. Father has always been a humble and gentle man, too intelligent for his own good.Mother has been a supportive and caring woman, despite her past and the difficulty of raising me. If there was a flaw about her, it was her silence and her delays in decision-making.But I guess I’m no better, because I’m far worse. Still, they don’t hide their true nature.Even that bastard Donovan, even while at the Organisation, has always been a mischievous, conniving snake, always searching for greener pastures in the darkest corners. However, despite working in an organisation that investigated Mafia syndicates and gangsters, this was the first time I actually understood why that statement was even said.Draco was still kneeling in front of me, a used gun resting on his thigh.“I’

Anastasia's POV I was still quite taken aback by everything that had happened in such a short time, and it wasn't like it was against my will. If I hadn't met Draco this way... Infact, if he had come himself and not with Donovan then maybe I wouldn't be regretting why I accepted. If anything, with how things seemed, the Vasilevs were not that bad. I was hoping it would stay this way, and things would go smoothly. But I still had my suspicions and until they were cleared, I'm wouldn't be letting my guard down anytime. I was led into the mansion, and as always, it was nothing like I had imagined. The inside was larger, with a black and gray interior, stairs leading up different floors. There were fewer people in here, two guards, the one who drove us here and the guy Draco shot back at my house. They greeted Draco with bows as he walked past them, and I could have sworn I saw them glare at me. Heading up the center staircase that was different from the others. It was white

Anastasia's POV “Welcome home, my foot.” I mummured as Draco held the door to the car open for me. The drive to the Vasilev estate was quite uneventful and extremely annoying. Draco sat closely beside me, with one hand busy playing with my tense fingers and the other scrolling through his phone. The road remained empty, surrounded by an endless forest, one I didn't know existed in this state. Or maybe we had left the area I was used to. I wanted to ask where exactly the estate was located, but my throat was dry and my entire body was exhausted from the running and my wounds that still hadn't healed. I still wondered how he found out about my Organisation name. I wanted to believe all this was just a coincidence but now, I didn't even know what to believe anymore. ‘A freaking flying bear could pass by and I wouldn't even be shocked.’ I thought, overwhelmed by my emotions now. Honestly, what happened to Organizations confidentiality. When the car finally drove out o

Anastasia's POV Draco stumbled forward, nearly losing his footing and the bandage around his forehead slowly got soaked with blood. He raised his hand to feel his forehead, quietly growling in pain. That was extremely unexpected, who in their right mind would hit him so hard that he would bleed….no that was wrong. What exactly was that person that their strength could injure him like that?It didn't make sense, in fact, at this moment nothing made sense at all. However, a chill ran down my spine and goosebumps rose on my skin as a figure stepped out from behind Draco. Taller, with longer but darker blonde hair and the same eyes Draco had, except his was colder.“Marius….” ‘Marius? M.. Marius Vasilev!’ Why would he come here?Draco groaned as he wiped the blood that flowed out of his bandage to his temple. “That hurt…what the hell was that for?!” he asked, his tone hoarse and laced with pain.I stumbled backwards, instinctively reaching to the ground to pick up a stick, while Draco
