Skylar's blood was thundering through her ears so loudly that she would be surprised if Luca didn't hear it. And he probably did, judging from the look of bemusement on his face as he stared at her, the grimly set line of his lips and his ticking zygomaticus demanding an answer.

After living through an anxiety-filled weekend, running over several scenarios on how she would tell him and how he would react, the time was finally here. It was inevitable now. She had to tell him the truth, and she was going to. She'd leave it to him to believe her or not.

But before the words could come out of her mouth, the dark glint in Luca's eyes shoved them right back into her throat.

“He isn't my son then.” He said matter-of-factly, obviously taking her hesitation for a no. He chuckled, and her pulse raced when he spoke. “I mean, how could I have thought for a second that he's mine? Like you wouldn't have told me before.”
