Emma called out Tommy’s name repeatedly, but there was no response. The dense forest was silent as a grave. All that could be heard was her and Richard’s steps as they ran through the woods. As Emma neared a clearing, her worst fears began to take shape. She smelled his blood at a distance, and noticed a shape of a human on the ground as she ran towards that direction. Emma increased her spread and was soon at the spot.
Tommy was lying still on the leafy ground, his eyes closed with dried blood all over his hair and chest. Emma felt to her knees beside the body and let out a bloodcurdling scream that echoed through the forest. Tears cascaded down her face as she tried to wake him, despite knowing the efforts were useless. She pulled out the sharp stake that had been buried into his chest and sat down, wailing. Richard started looking around the place while Emma stared at Tommy’s lifeless body.
He had been the only family she had left, and now he was gone. Emma’s parents had been killed by vampires five years ago and Tommy’s pack had taken her in before it was conquered by a rival alpha who ruled with an iron fist. Two years ago, the two had run away from the pack because of their love for freedom and hatred for authoritarianism. In the past two years, they had lived as rogues, moving from place to place, enjoying life one day at a time.
For the first time in years, Emma felt truly alone. She had met up with other rogues and they had formed a small group of eight. She liked the other members but the relationships with all of them were nothing like what she had with Tommy. He had been her world.
Her heart broke when she thought of all the plans they had made together. It was hard for her to believe that he was really gone, never to be seen again. She leaned down and kissed his bruised lips. The lips that had been warm and soft were now cold and hard. She straightened up and touched his skin.
“What am I going to do without you, Tommy?”
Richard went and crouched next to her. “I’m so sorry, Emma.”
Emma leaned on him and he placed a hand around her. “I have lost everything, Richard. How am I supposed to live now?”
“I know it’s not the same but you have us,” Richard said. “We will always be here for you.”
Emma stayed silent. The other members of the group arrived and expressed their shock after seeing the body. Alison, a girl who had been trying to seduce Tommy at every turn went and knelt beside his body while wailing.
Seeing that made Emma angry but she didn’t want to cause a scene so she stood up and went to sit on a tree trunk, a few meters away. She sat down and placed her head on her lap, sobbing the whole time.
Ten minutes later, Richard went where she was.
“We have to bury him,” he said. “Whoever killed him must be near. We must bury him as soon as possible and leave this place before they come for us.”
“We can’t just leave him here,” Emma said. “We have to go with his body to wherever we are going.”
“It’s really heavy and it may be too risky. We can’t.”
“I’ll carry him. I can’t leave him here. I can’t bury him right now. If you want, you can leave but I’m not going anywhere. I will kill the person who did this to him.”
“I don’t think that would be a good idea,” Richard said.
“I don’t care. You guys can leave.”
“You’re not the only one who loved him, you know.” Alison said, approaching them. “We all loved and cared for Tommy. We are very sad that he is gone, but there’s nothing we can do now. I wish we could bring him back to life but we can’t. We have to bury him and leave before it’s too late.”
“Really?” Emma said, standing up.
She walked up to Alison and slapped her hard, across the face. Alison gasped and touched her cheek. Seething, she charged at Emma who didn’t hesitate to fight back. Richard grabbed her body and pulled her back while Dylan did the same to Alison.
“What’s wrong with you two?” Richard asked. “This is not the time to fight.”
“You have no idea what Tommy and I have been through. You have known him for only three months, but I’ve known him for five years. For five years, Tommy and I have been inseparable so you have no right to tell me how I should react to his death. If you’re all scared, you are free to leave. I’m staying right here with him, and I will bury him wherever I feel like. I don’t need your help.”
“Emma, I know-
“Shut up, Richard. All of you leave me alone.”
“Well, I’m not going to stay where I’m not needed,” Alison said, starting to walk away. “Are you guys coming or not?”
The other guys started following her.
“I’m going to get your belongings from the camp,” Richard said. “I’ll bring them to you.”
“Thank you so much, Richard. Could you bring his stuff too?”
Richard nodded before following the others. Emma went and sat next to her boyfriend and continued sobbing while asking herself what she was going to do without him.
Suddenly, she heard a movement. She looked around quickly.
“Richard, is that you?”
Silence reigned. Panicked, Emma slowly stood up.
Emma.Emma sniffed the air but the scent she had picked up was gone. Shrugging, she went back to sitting beside Tommy and ran her hands through her bright red hair. A minute later, she heard the voices of her friends including Alison. She turned her head and saw them heading towards her with their backpacks and the tents they had been using it for their makeshift residence.“We’ve agreed to stay here for the night,” Richard said. “You need some time to mourn and think of what would be the best for Tommy. We couldn’t just leave you here alone. If there’s any danger, we will face it together. I’m sure Tommy would have wanted us to stick together.”“Thank you so much,” Emma said, feeling grateful. “I know you guys are risking a lot by being here but I’m really glad you decided to stay. I was getting really scared.”“Well, if we die, you’ll rot in hell knowing it was because of your stubbornness.” Alison said. Emma sighed and decided it was best to ignore her. Now was not the time to get
Emma.Emma slowly opened her eyes, groaning as her head felt like it was about to crack open. As her vision came to focus, she noticed that she was lying on the cold floor inside a strong metallic cage. She looked around her surroundings, and realised she was in some kind of basement, a dungeon to be specific. Several cages were scattered throughout the room. Emma saw her colleagues in the cages, each in their own. While the rest were still unconscious, Alison was conscious. She was braiding her blonde hair. She barely acknowledged Emma.Emma tried to get up but her body was very weak. The smell of silver in the air was enough to make her notice that the chains attached to her wrists were made of silver. Because silver weakened werewolves, she couldn’t break free. It seemed like the silver chains were drawing all her strength. Her legs were weak and she could tell they wouldn’t be able to support her. She touched the metal bars of the cage and tried to rattle it. The cage did not shak
Axel.Alpha Axel let out a deep growl. He still couldn’t believe it. Of all the things that could have happened to him, the moon goddess had decided to bond him with a rogue, the kind of wolves he considered scum. He ran his hands through his hair, feeling frustrated. He was feeling a deep sadness and emptiness inside him that he neither understood nor liked. He knew that when you rejected your mate, you would feel a lot of pain. Since she had not accepted the rejection, the pain was still mild. The breaking process of the bond was the painful.Axel was prepared to deal with it. He couldn’t be with a rogue, much less make one his luna. No matter what other people said, Axel was convinced rogues wouldn’t change. He had once heard a human man say that you couldn’t turn a hoe into a housewife. To axel, rogues were like whores because they were not loyal to anyone. They lived under their own rules and only cared about themselves. Having a sense of community grounded people. People who wer
Emma. When Emma regained consciousness, she was disappointed to see that she was still in a cage. Her body felt depleted of energy and she was feeling extremely hungry. Her eyes were heavy but she was able to open them and see that the others were still there. Alison was lying down in her cage with her eyes closed. Richard was pacing about. Amon and Keith were seated in their respective cages chatting. The other boy was scraping the floor with his nails as if he was trying to create a hole. If he thought he was going to create an escape route using his nails, he was crazy. Emma shook her head and turned away from him.She could feel a deep emptiness in her and knew that her wolf was extremely saddened by their rejection. It felt like something had been taken away from her. “There’s nothing else to do. Reject him and get over with it.”She heard the voice in her head and sighed. A small part of her was hoping that alpha Axel would change his mind. The person who had always shielded he
Emma. The ground was hard. It was like they were digging on a rock. Emma’s entire face was slick with sweat and her blouse was stuck to her body like second skin. The big skirt she was wearing trapped all the heat inside, literally boiling her legs. She could feel the sweat rolling down her legs. Her skin was aching from being under too much direct sunlight, without any sunscreen to protect it. Emma was tired but she continued to lift the hoe up and bring it down with as much force as she could muster. Andrea and another woman were seated under the shade of a tree in the middle of the strip of land. They had a large jar of water and snacks which they eating while talking and laughing. Emma’s throat was parched and she needed water but Andrea had said they wouldn’t be getting any until the work was done. Emma and her colleagues had no choice but to continue working under the terrible conditions.Suddenly, Emma felt a hit on her back. She nearly rammed into her hoe as she fell over. Sh
Emma.Emma thought Andrea was going to kill Richard. For some reason, Andrea took a deep breath before walking away.“You’re lucky it is lunch time, slave.” Andrea told Richard as she walked towards her friend. “You can all break off,” Andrea told them.Everyone relaxed. “Let’s go under that tree,” Richard told Emma and they went to sit under one of the trees at the edge of the clearing on the lower end. Emma followed him and they sat on the grass.“I thought she was going to kill you,” Emma confessed. “That was brave, and a bit stupid if I may add. Alison already hates me. If Andrea had killed you because of me, I’m pretty sure Alison would definitely kill me.”Two women walked into the clearing with dishes and plates. They camped near Andrea and her friend, then started serving the food. “I’m starving,” Richard complained.A while later, the food was brought to them. The food was rice and black beans. The boiled rice looked white and unflavoured. The beans looked like they had bee
Emma. Emma could barely sleep that night. She kept thinking of the possibility of escaping and couldn’t wait to get alone time with Richard so she could tell him all about it. Telling everyone at once was too risky. Emma was sure she could trust Richard with the secret. If they had to tell the others, it would be when the plan was in the final stages so that there would be fewer chances of them jinxing it. The others were sleeping soundly, their breathing slow and even. It was understandable after the hectic day they had all had. None of them was used to doing manual labour, and their introduction to it hadn’t been an easy one. Emma was thankful they had been given soft mats to sleep on unlike the previous night when they slept on the cold floor. Tired as she was, Emma couldn’t stop thinking about the tunnels. She imagined herself escaping through them and regaining her long lost freedom again. Being free would be epic. Although she was excited, she was also anxious. What if she g
Axel. Axel was lost in thought. He was seated at the edge of his bed, staring at the cream coloured wall before him. For years, he had been sleeping with numerous women, enjoying all the pleasures they had to offer. But now, he had almost no interest in the women with him. One of them was lying on the bed, her body wrapped around the sheets. She was as beautiful as ever with a pretty face and brown curly hair. When he first saw her at Black Moon pack, he had sworn he had to have her. Now, he didn’t feel like being intimate with her at all. The thought made him cringe. Ever since he had rejected his mate, he seemed to have lost interest in most of the things he enjoyed, including sex. It was the one thing that had fulfilled him before but now he didn’t want to think about it. He was pretty sure that it would not help him get rid of the emptiness and sadness he felt inside. Before he rejected Emma, he didn’t think rejecting a mate would hurt as much as it had. The emotional pain and
