The nemesis

Emma.

When Emma regained consciousness, she was disappointed to see that she was still in a cage. Her body felt depleted of energy and she was feeling extremely hungry. Her eyes were heavy but she was able to open them and see that the others were still there. Alison was lying down in her cage with her eyes closed. Richard was pacing about. Amon and Keith were seated in their respective cages chatting. The other boy was scraping the floor with his nails as if he was trying to create a hole. If he thought he was going to create an escape route using his nails, he was crazy. Emma shook her head and turned away from him.

She could feel a deep emptiness in her and knew that her wolf was extremely saddened by their rejection. It felt like something had been taken away from her.

“There’s nothing else to do. Reject him and get over with it.”

She heard the voice in her head and sighed. A small part of her was hoping that alpha Axel would change his mind. The person who had always shielded her from the world was gone. The person she could have rejected her mate for was no more. Being with Axel wouldn’t be too bad. He was an asshole, but she could be a bigger one when she chose to be. Emma was sure that she could match his energy if need arose. Tommy had made being traveling around the world so much fun. She didn’t think being a rogue would be that interesting without him.

“Do it,” her wolf implored. “The more you wait, the longer this drags on. I don’t think he is going to change his mind.”

Her wolf was right, Emma decided after giving it more thought. Axel White couldn’t be caught dead with a rogue. After some time, she decided to do it.

“I, Emma Greenfield, accept the rejection from Axel White, alpha of Venom pack.”

Immediately, the immense pain returned. However, it was not as intense as before. This one had a slow, steady built. Slowly by slowly, the ache in her heart grew stronger. Emma lay on the ground and thrashed about. She knelt down and started hitting her head on the metal bars, preferring the physical pain over the psychological one. That one hurt more. She continued hitting her head until she couldn’t do it anymore. She let herself fall on the floor.

A few minutes later, a three women walked into the dungeon. Two of them were carrying plates with steaming food on trays. The third one was carrying only one plate.

Emma’s lips parted open when she saw the woman’s face.

“Andy?”

Andrea smiled wickedly. “We meet again, Emma, under very different circumstances. It’s such a pleasure.”

Emma and Andrea had met a year ago. Andrea had been with another female rogue. Emma and Tommy had fought with them for a great camping spot that was near a lake. Tommy had said that two rival rogue groups couldn’t be at the same place. Emma and Tommy had managed to chase Andrea and her friend.

“What are you doing here?” Emma asked.

“I’m the overseer in charging of keeping you slaves in line. I think I’m going to enjoy keeping you in line, particularly. I heard about the death of that greedy boyfriend of yours. You loved him, but unfortunately, he never deserved you.”

“What do you mean?”

Andrea laughed. “I wish I could tell you, but I’m not supposed to. Actually, I like you guessing in your mind.”

“I know you’re just trying to rile me up. Anyway, does Axel know that you’re a former rogue?”

Suddenly, Andrea reached inside and grabbed Emma’s neck with her strong hands. “You won’t tell him anything.”

Emma started laughing, glad that she had something against the woman who wanted to torment her. Suddenly, Andrea let her go. She held the plate of food up and let the plastic plate fall. The rice and beans splattered all over the floor. Emma’s stomach growled and she swallowed the saliva that had started building up when she saw the food.

“You see?” Andrea said. “I think I just gave you an idea of who is in charge here.”

Andrea reached into the pocket of her cargo pants and removed a bundle of keys. She fumbled with it for some seconds before finding the key she wanted. She inserted it into the padlock and opened the door of the cage Emma was in. stepping inside, she started hitting Emma everywhere. Emma could feel the pain and blood flowing from her nose and mouth. Andrea did not stop hitting Emma despite the screams. When Emma stopped screaming, she stepped out and locked the cage again.

“Never threaten me again,” Andrea said and closed the cage before locking it.

Andrea left but she returned five minutes later with five warriors. All the cages were opened and the group was escorted to the yard. One of the guards grabbed a hose and started spraying water all over them. The water was ice cold.

Emma could feel her head pounding as she stood under the cold water. The water made her clothes stick to her body like second skin.

“I think they’re clean enough,” one of the guards said, laughing out loud.

Emma gritted her teeth as she endured the humiliation. She could see some pack members looking out from the pack house windows, pointing and laughing at them. When the water finally stopped coming, she was shivering.

There was only one thing on her mind. REVENGE. One day, she was going to take revenge for everything that she was being subjected to. She was not the type of person who forgave easily, and this was not the type of thing she could think of forgiving. Now was the time to act weak and endure.

I’m going to bring this stupid pack down one day, Emma thought as Andrea whipped her backside and herded them back into the building opposite the pack house. Her wolf was angry. Emma felt like turning and strangling Andrea but she realised that it was not going to help. Besides, it was almost impossible to kill Andrea with all those warriors around.

Emma found herself smiling as she thought of all the things she was going to do to Andrea once she was free. If Axel thought he would keep her enslaved for long, he was in for a surprise.

Emma Greenfield was not going to live as anyone’s slave.
