Emma.
Emma sniffed the air but the scent she had picked up was gone. Shrugging, she went back to sitting beside Tommy and ran her hands through her bright red hair. A minute later, she heard the voices of her friends including Alison. She turned her head and saw them heading towards her with their backpacks and the tents they had been using it for their makeshift residence.“We’ve agreed to stay here for the night,” Richard said. “You need some time to mourn and think of what would be the best for Tommy. We couldn’t just leave you here alone. If there’s any danger, we will face it together. I’m sure Tommy would have wanted us to stick together.”“Thank you so much,” Emma said, feeling grateful. “I know you guys are risking a lot by being here but I’m really glad you decided to stay. I was getting really scared.”“Well, if we die, you’ll rot in hell knowing it was because of your stubbornness.” Alison said.Emma sighed and decided it was best to ignore her. Now was not the time to get into meaningless fights. Two of the young men in the group starting collecting dry wood while the others set up the tents. The group was now remaining with six members. Alison was a twenty six year old beautiful tall blonde with a killer smile and a slim body with slight curves in all the right places. Emma who was skinny with no distinct curves, and had felt very insecure when Alison started making moves on Tommy. At times, she had worried that Tommy wouldn’t be able to resist the temptation to be with the sexy slightly older woman. Emma and Tommy were both twenty four years old. There was Richard, who was twenty six years old. He was tall and had long blonde hair that went up to the nape of his neck. He usually parted it in the middle of his head, leaving it to fall by the sides of his face. Emma thought he was quite handsome, and if she didn’t have Tommy, she would have dated him. She always wondered why Alison didn’t date him instead of trying to seduce a taken man. But then, Richard didn’t seem to like Alison either. The others were Jonah, Keith and Amon. They were all of average height and looks. Jonah and Amon had small bodies while Keith was quite big. He was obsessed with working out which was why he had developed a lot of muscle.Within a few minutes, the tents were up and all their belongings had been placed inside. The fire was started and soon they were all conversing around except Emma who was not in the mood for conversation. As darkness took over the world, the group ate and stayed up as much as they could, before they started sleeping in turns.Emma refused to sleep. Even if she had wanted to do so, she couldn’t. The memories of good times with Tommy kept replaying in her head and she cried every now and then. By morning, she was a mess. Tommy’s body had been put in the tent they always shared. Emma lay right next to her boyfriend’s body, choosing not to move or let anyone else be there. In the morning, she lay there staring at the tent’s ceiling for a long time. She could hear a lot of activity going on outside and Alison complaining about everything under the sun. Emma did not even understand why the group stayed with Alison. She was never really close to anyone in the group. I guess it was because there was nowhere to kick her to. Most of the group members did not have family. It was only Keith who had made a decision to run away from his criminal family.Eventually, Emma got out and told the rest that they needed to bury Tommy. Although, she still wanted to be with him, she had come to terms with the fact that it was best for them to bury him and leave that place. She would have to find a way of moving on at some point. He was gone and never coming back. She had to be strong.Richard and Keith started digging the grave immediately while Emma prepared the body with Jonah and Amon. She banned Alison from coming to the tent while her boyfriend’s body was being prepared. Alison sat on a tree trunk and started smoking while waiting for them to get over with it.When it was all done, they carried the body and put it near the grave. They had dressed him in his favourite clothes and accessories. Emma broke down when they started the rituals. She turned and was about to walk away when something exploded and smoke rose up around them.“It’s a smoke bomb,” Alison yelled. “Run!”“Nooo,” Emma yelled, returning to the grave.A group of ten warriors’ appeared from behind the trees and all the rogues ran away. Emma sat next to Tommy’s body, crying her heart out. Seeing that she was not about to go anywhere, the warriors ignored her and started running after the others. A minute later, she heard Alison’s loud scream and grunts from others. Emma did not even look up to see what was going on. She was too focused on Tommy. It didn’t take long before the warriors were moving away five bodies of her friends who had been shot with poisoned arrows.Three warriors appeared by the grave side.“Get up,” one ordered.“Help me bury him,” Emma begged, looking on helplessly. While she was able to lift the body, putting it in the grave was tricky. She couldn’t just toss him inside. When the men did nothing, she stood up and jumped into the hole.“What the hell!” one of them said. “This chick is crazy.”“Give me the body,” she said. “He was the love of my life. I don’t know what you want from us but I’m not going anywhere until Tommy has got a decent burial.”“What does she think she is?”One of the warriors jumped into the grave and quickly snapped her neck.Emma.Emma slowly opened her eyes, groaning as her head felt like it was about to crack open. As her vision came to focus, she noticed that she was lying on the cold floor inside a strong metallic cage. She looked around her surroundings, and realised she was in some kind of basement, a dungeon to be specific. Several cages were scattered throughout the room. Emma saw her colleagues in the cages, each in their own. While the rest were still unconscious, Alison was conscious. She was braiding her blonde hair. She barely acknowledged Emma.Emma tried to get up but her body was very weak. The smell of silver in the air was enough to make her notice that the chains attached to her wrists were made of silver. Because silver weakened werewolves, she couldn’t break free. It seemed like the silver chains were drawing all her strength. Her legs were weak and she could tell they wouldn’t be able to support her. She touched the metal bars of the cage and tried to rattle it. The cage did not shak
Axel.Alpha Axel let out a deep growl. He still couldn’t believe it. Of all the things that could have happened to him, the moon goddess had decided to bond him with a rogue, the kind of wolves he considered scum. He ran his hands through his hair, feeling frustrated. He was feeling a deep sadness and emptiness inside him that he neither understood nor liked. He knew that when you rejected your mate, you would feel a lot of pain. Since she had not accepted the rejection, the pain was still mild. The breaking process of the bond was the painful.Axel was prepared to deal with it. He couldn’t be with a rogue, much less make one his luna. No matter what other people said, Axel was convinced rogues wouldn’t change. He had once heard a human man say that you couldn’t turn a hoe into a housewife. To axel, rogues were like whores because they were not loyal to anyone. They lived under their own rules and only cared about themselves. Having a sense of community grounded people. People who wer
Emma. When Emma regained consciousness, she was disappointed to see that she was still in a cage. Her body felt depleted of energy and she was feeling extremely hungry. Her eyes were heavy but she was able to open them and see that the others were still there. Alison was lying down in her cage with her eyes closed. Richard was pacing about. Amon and Keith were seated in their respective cages chatting. The other boy was scraping the floor with his nails as if he was trying to create a hole. If he thought he was going to create an escape route using his nails, he was crazy. Emma shook her head and turned away from him.She could feel a deep emptiness in her and knew that her wolf was extremely saddened by their rejection. It felt like something had been taken away from her. “There’s nothing else to do. Reject him and get over with it.”She heard the voice in her head and sighed. A small part of her was hoping that alpha Axel would change his mind. The person who had always shielded he
Emma. The ground was hard. It was like they were digging on a rock. Emma’s entire face was slick with sweat and her blouse was stuck to her body like second skin. The big skirt she was wearing trapped all the heat inside, literally boiling her legs. She could feel the sweat rolling down her legs. Her skin was aching from being under too much direct sunlight, without any sunscreen to protect it. Emma was tired but she continued to lift the hoe up and bring it down with as much force as she could muster. Andrea and another woman were seated under the shade of a tree in the middle of the strip of land. They had a large jar of water and snacks which they eating while talking and laughing. Emma’s throat was parched and she needed water but Andrea had said they wouldn’t be getting any until the work was done. Emma and her colleagues had no choice but to continue working under the terrible conditions.Suddenly, Emma felt a hit on her back. She nearly rammed into her hoe as she fell over. Sh
Emma.Emma thought Andrea was going to kill Richard. For some reason, Andrea took a deep breath before walking away.“You’re lucky it is lunch time, slave.” Andrea told Richard as she walked towards her friend. “You can all break off,” Andrea told them.Everyone relaxed. “Let’s go under that tree,” Richard told Emma and they went to sit under one of the trees at the edge of the clearing on the lower end. Emma followed him and they sat on the grass.“I thought she was going to kill you,” Emma confessed. “That was brave, and a bit stupid if I may add. Alison already hates me. If Andrea had killed you because of me, I’m pretty sure Alison would definitely kill me.”Two women walked into the clearing with dishes and plates. They camped near Andrea and her friend, then started serving the food. “I’m starving,” Richard complained.A while later, the food was brought to them. The food was rice and black beans. The boiled rice looked white and unflavoured. The beans looked like they had bee
Emma. Emma could barely sleep that night. She kept thinking of the possibility of escaping and couldn’t wait to get alone time with Richard so she could tell him all about it. Telling everyone at once was too risky. Emma was sure she could trust Richard with the secret. If they had to tell the others, it would be when the plan was in the final stages so that there would be fewer chances of them jinxing it. The others were sleeping soundly, their breathing slow and even. It was understandable after the hectic day they had all had. None of them was used to doing manual labour, and their introduction to it hadn’t been an easy one. Emma was thankful they had been given soft mats to sleep on unlike the previous night when they slept on the cold floor. Tired as she was, Emma couldn’t stop thinking about the tunnels. She imagined herself escaping through them and regaining her long lost freedom again. Being free would be epic. Although she was excited, she was also anxious. What if she g
Axel. Axel was lost in thought. He was seated at the edge of his bed, staring at the cream coloured wall before him. For years, he had been sleeping with numerous women, enjoying all the pleasures they had to offer. But now, he had almost no interest in the women with him. One of them was lying on the bed, her body wrapped around the sheets. She was as beautiful as ever with a pretty face and brown curly hair. When he first saw her at Black Moon pack, he had sworn he had to have her. Now, he didn’t feel like being intimate with her at all. The thought made him cringe. Ever since he had rejected his mate, he seemed to have lost interest in most of the things he enjoyed, including sex. It was the one thing that had fulfilled him before but now he didn’t want to think about it. He was pretty sure that it would not help him get rid of the emptiness and sadness he felt inside. Before he rejected Emma, he didn’t think rejecting a mate would hurt as much as it had. The emotional pain and
Emma.Because there was a party, the slaves participated in most of the preparations so they didn’t have to go out and dig. Emma had earlier thought digging was the most hectic work she had ever done, but working in the kitchen to prepare food for hundreds of people proved to be the most exhausting work. During her break from work, Kylie took her to where the tunnels were. The tunnels were near the barn, and Kylie had been assigned to feed the animals. They pretended they were going to feed the animals. In the store next to the barn was a trap door that opened to the tunnels.“We can’t actually go in right now because we don’t know what’s in there and it would raise suspicion.” Kylie said. “When time comes, we shall come and use them. We’ll have to deal with whatever is in there at that time.”“Okay,” Emma said. They closed the door and grabbed some herbicides and a sprayer. Outside, Kylie measured the powdered herbicide and put in the sprayer. She then measured two cans of water and
