4: Purpose

The world appeared to halt for a split second when his hazel eyes met mine emerald green ones; the next minute, I was being roughly hauled off the ground. I didn't miss the struggle he had in his eyes whether or not to leave me suffering in there or die there. Literally!

With a cursory gaze, he asked, "How the hell is your skin not burned yet?"

Good question. It occurs to me now that the water was so hot it could have peeled flesh off a human, but I never felt the heat—instead, I was only startled by the unexpected burst and terrified of drowning.

Ian didn't bother waiting for an answer but rather went down on one knee and grabbed my injured knee.

I instantly stiffened up as his hands made contact with my exposed skin, not knowing what he was about to do. He leaned forward to do who knows what. Thinking he wanted to abuse me, my hands shot forth in front of me, pushing him with a force causing him to lose his grip on me and collide with the ceramics behind.

He wasn't expecting that. So am I but I've experienced lots of molestation in the past that I didn't want to go through it again. You can say I'm standing up for myself even though I know it's going to get me in trouble.

I recoiled in terror as a harsh growl erupted from his chest. When I caught his greenish—brown eyes becoming darker, I knew I angered his wolf and tried to shuffle backwards but, I was trapped by the wall.

“Stupid.” Ian grits, getting up to his feet. “You can bleed out for all I care.”

He took off only pausing when he got to the door, “Pretending to be someone else won't do you good, I'll give you three days to return what you took from the vault. Three days or you'll die.”

With that he pulled open a different adjoining door I didn't notice the first time and quickly shut the door behind him.

I cocked my head blinking.

Pretending to be someone else?

Has he seen me before?

I could hear footsteps running up the stairs just as the door slammed open and four different pairs of eyes stared at me worriedly.

“Are you okay?”

“What happened?”

Upon witnessing the blood spattered across the gleaming white surface, Emry lunged towards me, his fangs protruding, forcing everyone into action. Delaney grabbed him quickly and cut her wrist, “Here.”

I watched in shock as he fed off her wrist while she made her way out. Luna rushed out of the bathroom too leaving just me and Ivy in the bathroom. She seemed to be struggling too but grabbed my hand leading me out of the bathroom.

“Here, let me treat that for you before you bleed out.”

I won't.

I'll heal but slowly compared to werewolves.

She quickly grabbed the bandage and did some series of things I didn't understand on my hand while I stared at her unblinking. She is equally as gorgeous as her mother, with immaculate skin.

“Unlike Luna, Emrys is still a child and has no control over his blood lust. It's usually hard to teach and control full-blooded vampires but I'm sure he will learn with time,” she muttered with a smile.

Hm. What kind of weird family is this?

Everyone seems to be after my life for one reason or the other.

“There, all done.” she patted my injured hand and stood up, going to the wardrobe to get some silk white nightwear.

I felt like she had a lot of things to say that weren't coming forth. Once she was done, she gave a smile and left.

I followed after her, locking the door immediately. It was only after that I felt safe. Feeling exhausted, I climbed onto the fluffy thing we sat on and lay down but shook my head and went to lie on the ground where I felt a lot more comfortable, curling into a ball as I always do.

This house... This place...

It's so cold.

There seems to be laughter and joy amongst them, but I know I can never be part of it.

Delaney may have adopted me to be her daughter, but I know I can never be one nor be siblings with these people. I am different.

Different from them.

I've always wondered what I'll do when I'm finally free. I never had dreams or purpose but now, I do. I need to find out how I ended up at the facility. I was named 205 for a reason, because I was the only survivor amongst the children that were brought in. Meaning, that they didn't give birth to me at the facility, I had parents. A mom.

“Hey Kitty Kitty, you are being a bad little girl.”

“Come out now. You know what will happen if we find you, don't you?” the second man whispered.

My hand trembled from where I hid as I watched him round the corner.

He is close!

I thought holding my breath.

A few minutes passed, and no sound was heard until...

“Found you!”

*

I jolted up from the ground covered in sweat.

My heart pounding fiercely as I looked around.

It's a dream. I'm no longer at the facility. I panted reminding myself.

Chase and Greg are no longer here to torment me.

My heart calmed after a while as I relaxed and took note of my surroundings. Everywhere was silent.

I shrugged, figuring that since I had closed the door, they didn't want to bother me. Getting up, I went to the window pulled it open and quickly shuffled back upon seeing the heights. It took me a while to realize that I won't fall except I decided to cross over. Another thing caught my attention, it was dark outside even though I could see. Instead of the sun, there was a crystal light in the sky. Moon! That's what Delaney said the humans call it.

It was breathtaking.

I wasn't even sure how long I had stood there, but I knew that it was already dawn and that my growling stomach was itching for food. My legs started to feel numb from standing for too long. Thus, I proceeded to open the door as quietly as possible and then sneaked in the direction of the kitchen just like how Emrys and Luna thought it was a normal thing for everyone.

Luckily, there is food!

It was only halfway through the food I noticed how silent the house was, super quiet. No one was home. I frown but then shrugged thinking it's better. I don't think I'm ready to meet anyone, I'm still not used to the idea that I'm free now and no longer at the facility.

It was only on the third day I became worried. Is this a test? Where did everyone go?

The first thing I did after waking up was going to shower, using it just like the pregnant lady taught. I hadn't taken my bath all these while cause it's not all the time we get to bath at the facility so how am I supposed to know that people are required to bath daily?

I went into the closet where Ivy carried my nightwear from – one I hadn't changed till now and wondered what to put on. There were a lot of clothes and the excitement of trying all of them overwhelmed me. So, I picked up trousers similar to what the males wear and put them on, proceeding to a skirt I saw little Luna wearing, and putting it on.

By the time I was done, I found it difficult to walk out of my room.

Humph, why would anyone stress themselves by putting on clothes? Why not just go naked?

I shook my head when I couldn't understand the logic behind that.

Soon, I arrived at the entrance of the house.

For the past two days, I've wandered the whole house studying turns and exits. I never wandered into any room though or ventured outside in fear that I was being monitored but today is different. I wanted to test my limits.

Besides, if I want to fulfil my purpose, I need to venture out.

With that thought in mind, I took a step out, pausing as the sunlight blinded me for a moment.

I took another step and another...

Seeing that no one was stopping me, my steps became bolder. I quickly rounded the corner where Delaney and first took.

‘Going somewhere?’

Suddenly, a voice rang out. In my head!

I halted in my tracks instantly and turned but there was no one there making me wonder if I was imagining it.

Just as I was about to whirl around and continue on my way, a huge black wolf came out from the flowers.

My breath hitched as I stared wide-eyed at it.

I hadn't sensed him!

Normally, I could sense when anyone was close by but I didn't sense or smell him!

It was the twins from earlier...

My feet began drawing backwards remembering how werewolves in the facility usually behave. It was rare to get any of the wolves to shift but once they do, they kill whoever was because they've gone feral already.

But instead of being ferocious, this wolf watches me carefully back as I back away. He poses a much greater threat!

Another voice behind me asked, "Tired of playing sister, already?" which made me whip my head to the side.

Gulping when I saw him leaning against the wall casually.

My trembling hands instantly. It was the scary twin! One with the huge gash on his face.

I looked from left to right wondering how I was going to get out of this situation. My fear doubles when I see him locking the gate.

“Don't worry about escaping sister,” he drawled sarcastically. “No one is here to save you this time, let's finish what we started.”
